I needed to make fake whiskey in plastic highball glasses, with no liquid. I tried mod podge and acrylic paint but it was awful. Wrong color and not transparent. I switched to alcohol inks and got a much better result. Starting with a half oz of Alcohol Blending Solution (Ranger), I added 24 drops honeycomb alcohol ink and a drop or two of poppyfield (red) and botanical (green). I applied the mixture with a sponge pad brush to a sheet of flexible plastic. I want to reuse the glasses, so I didn’t paint them directly. The coated plastic sheet is just the right color, transparent, and easily cut to pieces to fit inside the glass. I am a props newcomer and have fun trying various fakes. 😃

That was great. SMing a show currently where actors are drinking brandy, white wine and red wine 😊 thanks for the great tips. Just interested whether you use glass on stage? We have to use plastic.

So glad you liked it! If I can avoid it I will use plastic - depends on the actors as well. If things are decorative then glass decanters and bottles can be fine

How shelf stable is the gelatin? Will it go bad after a while, or will it be usable for months if not years?
@ThatPropsGirl3 жыл бұрын
Well when it’s been added to water you will need to keep it cool so in a show I tend to put them in the fridge or a cool place when they are not being used. But dry gelatine will last a while

You could MAYBE use resin I plan on doing a video on this at some point. You would just have to watch your ratios

I want to know how they make them wine bottles pop when open and there not actually wine even if they take wrap off the bottles how does that work
@ThatPropsGirl Жыл бұрын
Sometimes they can fill them full of carbon dioxide - kind of like if you had a helium tank for balloons I believe

What do you recommend for color to make the gelatin look like champagne?

Maybe yellow food colouring with a glitter through it for bubbles?

Hi! Can i use the gelatin method on actual glass glasses or will it crack the glass? Also can leaf gelatin (the one used for baking) be used instead of powder one?
@ThatPropsGirl2 жыл бұрын
I think I would be fine, perhaps try it in a cheap glass you don’t care about first? I think leaf gelatine would also work. Let me know how it goes!

Can you use gloss modge podge and yellow paint to make champagne?
@ThatPropsGirl Жыл бұрын
Most likely yes, you would just need to do some trial and error with the ratio of paint to mod podge and transparency. I have done it before and it worked

What is the gelatin to hot water ratio?
@ThatPropsGirl3 жыл бұрын
I usually do 1/3 parts having it thicker is best but it also depends on the brand. Sometimes you have to do a few tests as well! If you’re lucky it will say on the packaging what kind of ratio works well as well!

Where can I get plastic wine glass and plastic or resin fake wine or champagne bottle
@ThatPropsGirl Жыл бұрын
You can order them on Amazon, most party stores will sell them as well. You will want thicker plastic though because it needs to be able to hold the weight of the resin

What food coloring would you use to make either Cola or Dr. Pepper mixed in with gelatin?
@ThatPropsGirl2 жыл бұрын
You can buy black, maybe dilute it and mix it with red to make a brown
@debraquantmeyer74832 жыл бұрын
@@ThatPropsGirl I mixed red and green (more green) and I got very close, but am going to get some black and try it that way as well. I will let you know which one was better. Shame we can't post pics in comments. I enjoy your videos so much!

They both worked about the same. The black food coloring took more than I thought to change the water to black, then highlighting it with the red was pretty easy. The red & green got brown very fast, but was a bit harder to find a balance that resembled Dr. Pepper.
