I think what makes people like freckles so much, is that it makes an illusion that you're not wearing any makeup (well, skin makeup, not eyes). So, it somewhat makes you look more natural and blemish-free.

I used to have heaps of freckles on my face when I was little but now that I've grown up they've sort of faded into my skin (and now the only dark marks I have on my face are a few really big freckles), and I've really started to miss them!
