This guy sounds like a real winner. Why try to pass off counterfeit games at a specialty retailer that actually knows its stuff? The set-up was obvious (busy day, hoping to catch staff slippin'), so the intention is pretty obvious as well. Good on you, Ian, for spotting the fakes and saving your employer from losses. This story underscores the need for specialty retailers to know their products and to be reasonably cautious with high-value merchandise. Too bad there isn't an "instruction manual" of sorts to discern the real deals versus the fakes.

Classic scammer. Go on a busy day where employees are more likely to make a mistake? Check. Put your expensive fake rares in with a ton of legit garbage further increasing the chance of employee oversight? Check. Have a few moderately valued games mixed in to bolster your argument that the fakes are legit if employee questions you on them. Check. Over react when employee calls you out in a loud and obvious manner in hopes that the employee will get worried other customers might be scared off and give you something just to get you to leave. Check.

+devilmikey00 and that's like that almost everyday that I work at Gamestop. So many times I find fake DS carts like Pokemon or Mario games. But I don't get personally mad about it. I just set them aside and say we can't take that particular game right now.

I have a legit Little Samson that I purchased for about a 100 bucks like 5 or 6 years ago. I have my games nicely in a shelf, one day I was cleaning and accidentally bumped the shelf. Many of my NES games fell to the floor, including the Little Samson. A little tiny piece of plastic from the top broke and so one of the internal plastic parts that hold the internal board. I repaired it, but it will never be a mint copy any more. It still hurts me to this day.

Glad I stumbled on this. Had no idea the 1000 or so NES/SNES games sitting in my parents attic are worth a mint. Bought all my friends collections/consoles off them in the late 90's for pennies as we went off to college. I'd say no less than half contain manuals and boxes as well. And almost none are Madden/2K type sport games. I knew retro gaming was a thing but I had no idea the ridiculous prices and lengths people would go to to. Would always have stacks of them, and would always put up an argument when you told them that you'd only be able to give them store credit- and not much, because nobody fucking wants old sports games.Had one guy try to argue that one particular year of Madden that he was trying to sell was "the best year."Also used to love it when people would say things like, "I'm bringing my business elsewhere." Always wished I could get that in writing.

I believe it's only illegal to sell repros if you don't tell people they're repros. With games like those two though, you'd have to compare them to some circuit board screenshots on like Neogaf or something to even hope to take them in. Well, if the labels were not obvious repros at least.

I am curious why the guy buying a ton over a short period is so bad? I went hard this summer with NES myself, and upped my collection from 20 games to close to 400. Now I have been in this hobby before and had to liquidate, so I was kinda trying to re-collect very quickly to fill the empty hole lol, but I still don't see how they are "ruining the hobby". Mind you I am not disagreeing, just not sure as to why? Are they driving up prices due to artificial demand and willingness to overpay? I did notice that this time around things were a bit pricier than I remember. For instance, Mega Man 8 for Saturn is like $300 at my local retro store. How? Why? Also, why did I sell all my rpgs? :(
