This is the pure death of academic institutions. Universities are led by individuals with an academic credentials and vision to elevate these institutions to global standards, not by someone who has an authoritarian mindset whose gonna limit your critical thinking. Your description of the state of affairs is correct and how ALL parties are involved depending when they are in government. But one party which claims to be the one which gave Pakistan its constitution and claims to be the guardian of democracy and human rights also passed the law through Senate and President Zardari signed it into law. Shehzad , Pakistan’s political parties never evolved independent of Military influence and machinations . Added to this elite capture and everyone exploiting Islamic card for narrow political and personal gains by colluding with clergy . Sir Hamid often says “ badtareen jamhuriyat is far better than behatareen aamriyat. People’s participation is the only solution to worsening economy, vibrant foreign policy. It is fact that with present system of governance Pakistan will be pushed in to utter poverty, illiteracy, serious shortages of food and other life essentials. Military must relinquish its role from governance and go back to barracks or borders . Let duly elected government rule , create chaos for couple of terms but out of these chaos an lasting system will evolve . A democratic process has huge potential for self corrections but the current hybrid governing system will never never undergo any self corrections. In India one may say that democracy isn’t perfect but no one can deny that it has improved consistently during last 75 years .
