You never mentioned Richmond Hill, where all the high-class uppity chinese food is. In Markham, there's lots of good places in Peachtree Plaza and the restaurants outside First Markham Place. For that Hong Kong Bistro, best one is New City in Peachtree. Also try commerce gate in Richmond Hill and Times Square in Richmond Hill, lots of good restaurants. In Scarborough all the good chinese places are in North Scarborough, like Midland from Finch to McNicol for example. Downtown Chinatown has nothing on Markham/Scarborough/Richmond Hill. I've lived in Markham my whole life, I've seen the best restaurants come and go

I lived in Vancouver for 16 years and although the chinese food is amazing(food court in Aberdeen Center, Bao Bei, Dinasty House), it doesn’t compare to Toronto. The variety of restaurants is insane and the authenticity is, bar none, the best outside of China and Hong Kong. You just can’t compare the two.

Toronto not only has Chinese food from multiple regions of China but it also has Chinese food from other countries: Chinese-Indian Food, called Hakka Chinese-Peruvian Food, called chifa Tibetan cuisine - I'll avoid the controversy and just say it exists Chinese-Jamaican food Chinese-Ecuadorian food. You can also find spice bags which is a staple of Chinese-Irish cuisine.

My family makes the drive from Boston to the GTA for our Cantonese food fixes twice a year. Boston and NY can’t compare. There are other better Dimsum places in Markham and Richmond Hills. I don’t consider New Century in the top tier. There are also many newer cha chaan tang places in Scarborough, Markham, and Richmond Hills. Did you visit any of the Asian supermarkets? Even if you have several months, You can’t come close to trying all the Chinese restaurants. Outside Hong Kong and Guangdong, the GTA and Vancouver areas have the best Cantonese Chinese food. For your next family trip to the GTA, let me know if you want a recommendation list of better places to eat.

My next question for the vlogger was if he had tried NY Cantonese Chinese food. With NY the rent and overhead costs are so high. We have such incredible variety in Toronto here. Due to a large number of immigrants from mainland China restaurant investors have brought some amazing chefs from China in the last decade or so - this has raised the cuisine level even higher. Thank you for your kind words about my city. Although we are not considered to be up there with Paris, Rome, or Tokyo we are very proud of our food scene.

What an incredibly beautiful and loving family. They constantly display a deep, special connection that’s so rare and precious. It reminds me so much of where I come from, where family ties are everything and the love and support between members are unbreakable. It’s something that can only be truly understood if you’ve grown up in a similar environment, where closeness and affection form the foundation of your relationships. There’s a unique quality in families like this that goes beyond words-it’s a sense of belonging, unconditional support, and a bond that grows stronger with time. Seeing them together reflects the warmth and love I’ve always cherished in my own family. The food and drinks are always more enjoyable when shared with good company. It’s not just about the taste; it’s the experience of being surrounded by people who bring laughter, conversation, and a sense of togetherness that elevates the entire moment.❤

Grew up on the east side of Toronto called Scarborough in the 1980s and my grandparents owned a hair salon in Chinatown. I was able to experience the great food of Chinatown downtown and then the emerging Chinese restaurant movement from Agincourt to Markham/Richmond Hill. I left Toronto to work in the US for 11 years and came back in my mid 30s. Even though my mom is from Shanghai, I had never truly experienced Northern Style Chinese food. Hot dang, most incredible Chinese food ever as more Northern style restaurants popped up all over Toronto. Soup in a dumpling letz go! 😅

@buttnugget2900Ай бұрын
@@jakePark9333 A lot of Toronto cuisine incorporates a lot of fusion from various cultures because it's all so accusable here so some "traditional" dishes might be EXTRA good because of the availability of some other ingredients that might not be the norm for that dish. Even down to the legal standard of ingredients in foods keeps some things in a more natural ratio as apposed to our southern neighbors who use a lot of HFCS.

lol there is a Congee King in Richmond (Vancouver suburb), wait it's Congee Noodle King. Does that mean King of Congee and Noodles? If you do ever do Vancouver, you'll like the Chinese food here. My fam in SF comes up here to eat. Lots of different styles of Chinese here as well. Come in the summer, the night market will also be open on the weekends then (though things are more expensive in the summer) otherwise bring an umbrella as it rains almost as much as Seattle. There are some pretty nifty fusion places as well. While most of the popular Chinese places are in Richmond now a days, old China Town still has some hold outs like Sun Fresh Bakery (great for cheap eats on the go like steam buns, congee, limited rice rolls), New Town Bakery (also does steam buns/baked buns and HK Cafe but it's not my fave tbh) - very popular with tourists so expect lines here vs Sun Fresh), The Boss (HK Cafe and bakery) and Kam Wai (take home frozen dim sum but you can eat dishes fresh there as well but not a lot of space to sit and eat). Burnaby also has some pretty good food in the Crystal Mall food court but it's a bit out of the way where as you can really get all you want in Richmond between the Chinese malls (Aberdeen, Parker Place, Pacific Place etc). Also try HK BBQ Master for BBQ Pork, Siu Yuk and Soy Chicken etc. My fam has been going there since the 90s and it's very popular now even after the original owner's son took over. You'll find a lot of good HK food since in the 90s a lot of ppl immigrated to Vancouver (trying to escape any fallout from Handover back in 96ish) and brought all the yummy food and excellent chefs as well :) I could probably canvas my family for their faves in the city as I can't tell you anything about crustaceans since I'm allergic (so sad). HK Cafe style food also good here too - sadly I only tried one place in Toronto so I can't give a full comparison but I preferred my fave places here over the one I tried there. If you do come to Vancouver/Richmond, you'll probably need more time for all the Chinese foods XD and also note a lot of places are cash only (some also do eInterac - not Venmo or CashApp cause it's not available in Canada). Your elderly fam will probably be pretty comfortable in Richmond as you don't need any English to get around either, and typically you will find someone anywhere in the city that speaks Cantonese or Mandarin if you end up in need of help for some reason.

Toronto and area has the best Asian food, not only Chinese but Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. Remember when pricing the Canadian dollar is worth less so $25 USD is about $35 CAD so the prices are not out of line with US prices and the lobster price is actually cheaper. Your dinner for 6-8 people was $368 CAD so about $265 USD which is not bad for a "tourist trap". Glad you all enjoyed your visit to T.O. We usually go to Markham for dim sum but if downtown we go to SkyDragon on Spadina...5th floor of mall and has an old school vibe and still use the carts. First time seeing your videos. Love the overall presentation. Is Canadian Chinese food better than Boston? I mean, if you went to Montreal or Windsor or Edmonton you'd probably say "no". But you went to a metro area that is easily one of the three best spots in NA for Chinese food (if you want to say Vancouver or NYC is better... you're wrong, but it's not worth arguing over.). And I'd say that the Toronto area has the most diverse assortment of ethnic foods outside of NYC. Anyway, you would not go wrong with either BBQ restaurant in First Markham. I prefer Extra (aka the one on the right) but HK's (aka the one on the left) is also very good, and I think actually has the better roast pig. But you basically go to these places for the duck, roast pig or char siu. Sad no one got iced lemon tea (dong ling cha) at the cha chaan teng. That's usually the best iced option. Glad you enjoyed your Toronto food trip. Hopefully you come back and try other places.

It’s safe to be Chinese or Asian in Canada Toronto, unlike in USA where everyone pick on Asians, there was a news of Asian old lady being set on fire by a black and a Latino dude in NYC

With all the crazy people in the world no one is really safe anywhere. You should never let your guard down when you’re out of your home. Never completely. There’s crappy people everywhere. And good ones, too. But you never have to worry about the good ones.

Aww, so sweet you miss Toronto! 🥰 So many Asians here, your family fits right in. Please come back often (it can be your second, foodie home)! 🥢 Maybe next time you can meet up with some of your followers at their favourite Chinese / Asian restaurants, and build up local connections!

Your from Boston and freight for local lobster is a hell of a lot less than in Toronto it’s shipped from east coast. You also have the advantage of the US dollar and the prices for that lobster in that restaurant is in canadian dollars. Lots of factors in food cost aren’t there? Great content and loved the video!

Those fries with the club sandwich are shoestring fries. They're really good.

I'm being biased, but Richmond outside of Vancouver, BC takes the cake. The crystal mall in South burnaby has its gems too, not to mention all the mom and pop places throughout the lowermainland. Great video!

I never knew you lived in Boston until you mentioned it once but the moment your dad opens his mouth there’s no mistaking where he grew up lol. Were you just afraid to give shoutouts to Drake and Bieber?? 😂

Looks like a calorie rich vacation. The dim sum place was tantalizing. Nice to see your family, especially Chinese Grandma (for longer than a split second)

I'm a Canadian who travels to Boston 5-6 times per year. To this date, I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant in the Boston area that is at least equivalent to those in the Toronto area. 🙁

Boston is bad or mediocre at most things, but Bostonians think they're the best at everything 😂
