Thank you for sharing with us. I don't think I'm on the spectrum but I definitely have sensory issues. Certain noises like kids screaming or yelling and jumping around are excruciatingly painful for me. Again, thank you for sharing with us!

I love gaining insight into adults with autism. I work with children with autism but there is a difference when an individual has been coping with the symptoms for twice as long! As far as someone WANTING to have autism....the only time that I see that is in parents whose children have chromosomal abnormalities and the parents are in denial (probably due to fear of the unknown) and they continue to insist that their children have autism. I’ve seen this many times over the years...I think that autism is less scary to them because it’s more prevalent and there’s a bigger community. I never try to continue to convince them otherwise, I just love them and their children.

Stephenie I’m legally blind and I use a white cane. I was born the way I am and I make no excuses nor apologies. It is true sone people think I’m too disabled and others think I’m not disabled enough! 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m just me... love me or not, I’m just living my life the way I was created, happily getting on with living it. You answered all the questions so well. Especially the one about how easily it is to be misdiagnosed with bipolar. I wasn't diagnosed with bipolar (I had other misdiagnoses though) but that was probably the diagnosis I wondered about the most before being I got my diagnosis, even up to the day I was diagnosed. I think it was the ups and downs and impulsivity of ADHD that made me wonder. And yes also on the rude disability comments too. We get a lot of "two autistic adults wonder who pays for that" type comments when Paul is literally in his law office 12 hours a day during the week. People don't get how disability works. I'm so thankful it exists for people who need it, but I get tired of people making snarky comments that that's why I had kids.

Hello Stephanie! You are an extraordinary and beautiful microworld - not just a fam-of-eight ;) and I personally think that you try to do your best to keep up with the demands of life and make it all work.. I wonder though if it could be suitable for you to pick on some topics concerning your elder kids who are not on the spectrum, I think it still would fit into the channel theme. Particularly the Qs would be: 1. Was it easy/difficult for them to adjust to new environment and school? 2. How is it with acceptance and tolerance issues at the new location (bullying because crowded family, autism issues etc)? 3. Are the teens of opinion that the experience of handling the siblings with ASD could be helpful for them in their future life, like choice of profession, raising own kids since the possibility of ASD in them is present due to genetics? Okay people, just don’t watch the videos if you don’t like her. Nobody is forcing you to watch her. I hate when people do that. It’s like people think you’re Susan Schofield or something. Now that’s something to worry about. She thinks her child Jani has schizophrenia and Bodi too. They’re both on medicine that clearly is making them sick. I don’t think you’re like that. You’re genuine, and I like that. These people think they know it all and they think you have munchausen by proxy. Well, the truth is, you do have autism and nobody else can change that. You can’t speak it into existence. You’re not God. That’s silly. Only God created the world, not you. Nobody has control over their circumstances. Only God controls the world. Oh my god you answered my question this is crazy I got a referral from my pediatrician for both an autism evaluation and a neuropsych until I called up the places that test and diagnose autism and my family’s insurance covers nothing so hopefully my first job I can use my first paycheck to be evaluated because I need to know I read the criteria and everything all of the criteria applies which is crazy I thought only a few things applied until a watched a KZbin video that explains it in non scientific words and wow just because I can talk was the only reason I wasn’t diagnosed as a young kid

I love your response to the hate. My son has just been diagnosed with a lot of different mental health diagnosis. He has DMDD, comduct disorder, ADHD combined type and autism level 3. And everyone says because my son can speak he isn't autism level 3 never mind the fact that he is 8 and speaks like a 2 year old.

I have known people wrongly diagnosed so many times... usually it seems to me psy dr have a dx they like the most and almost everyone who walks into their office gets that dx ... that is what I have noticed in 20 years of being an adoptive parent; 17 years teaching sped; 5 years being a foster parent ... etc...

The "it seems like everyone is diagnosed with _________" argument always gets me a little heated. The reason we see an increase in diagnoses is more likely due to advances in science and training -- the traits are more easily identifiable because we have learned to identify them as this disorder that now has a name. We also train people to be able to identify the symptoms or traits more easily and advancements in genetic testing have made it all the more easier (though not as easy to obtain). It's not that all of a sudden everyone has ASD. It's that now we have a name for it and a way to diagnose it. Think of how many people went without a diagnosis before now. It's always been around. It's not new. It's just recognized now.

I want to add to the conversation about medication. I have ADHD and depression and It made the world of a difference for me to treat the ADHD and not the depression. I got diagnosed as an adult and undiagnosed or untreated ADHD is a major risk factor for developing Depression. Taking stimulant medication and learning about ADHD helps with my depression just as much as the ADHD it self.

I have ASD and ADHD and have sensory processing issues. My auditory processing issues are messing with my ability to pass a hearing test and so it is hard to work out if I can't hear properly or can't process what I hear.

I don’t know what OT might cover (especially for an adult), but when watching your cleaning videos, I wonder if some sort of organization skills, time management, or “healthy habits” type training might help you keep your sanity. Obviously having 3+ kids comes into play (thinking back to Jacksonville) and you are capable of cleaning, but keeping up on things makes a major cleanup less daunting. Even cooking comes to mind, but again 8 people with a variety of food issues, combined with not everyone is inclined to cooking (Sarah from Our Tribe of Many doesn’t enjoy cooking, but recognizes people need to eat and tries to lean towards healthier options = having to cook). So just like you didn’t grasp the concept of making the bed as a guest, you may need to be shown doing this or that helps keep the bedroom cleaner, or cooking a double portion & eating leftovers or freezing a portion might help make food time easier. Obviously a variety of factors come into play on keeping a tidy home like illness or injury, phone calls to doctors & therapists, kids and whatever random curveball life tosses your way, and nobody can force you to enjoy cooking, but just some ideas to think about if you wanted to look into trying to make life easier for you. Does having a messy house give you video content? Yes, but it’s also not functional to constantly have a messy home (not saying you live in filth). Can you survive on frozen dinners? Yes, but they’re not healthy due to carbs, sugar and salt. But if some sort of “life coach” helped you form new habits, you might not have to stress as much after a bad weekend, or you might get a freezer full of healthier dump & bake options. Even just talk to Lonnie to see if you could come up with a list of things you think could have a better solution than what’s going on currently. Make a list of things that need a better solution once the eldest 2 leave home, list of what needs a better solution if Lonnie has to return to work for some reason. What if the respite option never can happen for whatever reason, what works or doesn’t work and what is highest priority to make life run smoother now and for the future. You grew up masking, but never understanding certain things. Surely that qualifies you for something...

Therapy helps me the best because she specializes in autism but OT is for sensory or fine motor skills. That's the thing about "high functioning" you don't struggle ennough for help but enough that it impacts your life.

@@OurLANDingCrew8 well even typical people can pay for professional organizers or seminars on how to be more efficient or whatever. Most people find out "my parents never taught me that" or figure out the real purpose to some object years after becoming an independent adult. Think of how many people struggle to figure out how much to tip for hair dressers, manicures, food industry. I've seen some downright strange tips from people working in the food service industry at major sporting events...a duffel bag for example...nice duffel bag, but $100 cash works better for the recipient! And learning that X habit doesn't work well for you, but trying Y habit does work well can make some sort of lifestyle coach worth it.

Everyone is human. Getting a diagnosis wrong or right can happen if it is only one person diagnosing. I think if I was in you place I would do the same, since it makes sence, if your children have autuism, its really likely that it was genetic

When I got pregnant for the 2nd time DEALING with noise has been so so hard. I don't know what it is but listening to multiple things or people at a time is horrifying for me 🥺🥺🥺🥺

I live very close a stoplight on a highway and doubles as a main road for this small town... semi’s and accelerators... motorcycles, the beeping of the crosswalk, and that’s windows closed up. I can feel and hear bass and I don’t like vibrations. The apt above me has hard wood floors and everything they drop, drag, move, walking with shoes.... it’s always too much even if just one of those things repeats. My concentration breaks cuz my ability to process info is zapped. I’ve tried ear plugs and they don’t work then headphones create more pressure on my ears against my glasses and hurts in a few minutes. Wish sound proofing wasn’t an out of reach expense

Personally I don't think it's the state of Florida that is the problem. It's just who you contact. I live in NW Florida and adults are being diagnosed with Autism on a daily basis here and for free. We have free mental health clinics and hospitals here and they do all that testing Stephanie was talking about all the time, free of charge to most people.
