Many thanks for the review. I got mine a few days ago. For anyone watching and doubting durability of this thing, please note the manufacturer has an 18 month warranty period for this device. So if it goes wrong, you're covered. Another thing to note is that the charging is now done via a USB C connection, not a Micro USB connection. It's probably a recent(ish) upgrade to the device. During charging the device does NOT get hot, just barely warm. The device cuts off charging when fully charged up. The device feels really premium in hand, and looks a treat. I've also read, widely, that using an amp, such as this, that you need to max out the volume on the source device. Please note this is not necessary, having used it. 80% on source will give you a LOT of power through the amp. As for performance, for the money..and build quality IT...IS...AN...ABSOLUTE...STEAL. I grabbed mine for $15 off Alliexpress...seriously, that's a cuppa coffee and a half.

I also found that one and I was curious to see a review. Have you tried to connect the headphone output to a spectrum analyzer, or, with a proper adaptor, to an audio card input, to measure the frequency response? Sometime when the audio is very clear it's because they applied some equalization so that it sounds clear, but it's not accurate/true to the original anymore. Too bad it's too big to make wired headphones wireless, it's as big as the headphones, and if I have to keep it in my pocket, wired to the headphones, then I simply connect the headphones to my computer or smartphone.

The thing with cheap Headphone amps are the input jack are always the cheapest quality and dont last more than a year, if that before you start to get scratchy intermittent disconnects. So its really irrelevant how good it sounds in the beginning the real test is how long will those jacks last with constant inserting/ejecting. I guarantee that you will need to replace that unit pretty quick.

I bought the same amp, and I regret the purchase. I've had it for four months, paid $30 for it as you said. It has lost the left channel, and the charging receptacle has failed miserably. I never got even eight hours use out of the battery, and it took four hours plus to charge. Shortly before losing the left channel, the audio got distorted on BOTH channels. I expect to get five years use out of a unit like this, but was extremely disappointed by the poor quality. I never used it outside, only on my desk. It never got wet or dropped or misused in any way. I better get a replacement free of charge (including shipping and handling), or I will never buy another from China.

@@AndresSalazararthub still figuring out why you would spend £300 on the headphones, then cheap on the amp. As the above notes…..cheap Non returnable stuff is usually a fool’s games and hard to recommend. Save in the short term…but replace often and unreliable on use. Just not worth it. Id guess hes not the only one with problems after a short period. I’d highly recommend a zen dac for home use, specifically because lossless audio is becoming the standard now. I got an xdsd for outdoor use….yeah its a bit overkill tbh….but id say a hip-dac via usb would be a much better choice. Im not aginst chi-fi….i own starfield iems and they are great.
@AndresSalazararthub3 жыл бұрын
@@Sharmac77 well I have a ZEN DAC, so yeah of course I use that for home use. Since this is for walking around, and is only a amp, not a dac, I think this totally works bumping up the power of the machine for better volume, so I think you can get by with $30 than the Hip Dac which is much more. To each his own, for those on a budget, I think this totally works. If you haven't bought one and don't have experience with it, then you need to do that first, instead of just busting.

The power requirements of a headphone amplifier are calculated based on the headphone continuous power ratings. Just because you have a pair 32 ohms headphones doesn't mean you don't need a headphone amplifier or you can get by with any headphone amplifier. As an example, one of my headphones are rated for 200 mW continuous power and 3500 mW peak power at 32 ohms, but in fact, those headphones can go up to 50 ohms, so one can not expect it to be properly powered by just about anything (like a smartphone or a laptop). First you need to know your sources lowest output level, then calculate the minimum gain required to bring the headphones to their rated power capacity and, on that, add at least 3 dB and up to 6 dB of gain to serve as power reserves. So, you see, if your source player output level is 2 Vrms and your headphones need 3.16 Vrms to reach their rated power capacity, the amplifier has to offer a minimum gain of at least 3.97 dB. Add to this value a headroom of 6 dB (power reserve) and suddenly the amplifier has to deliver 10 dB of gain, which means that it has to be able to deliver 800 mW continuous at 50 ohms with 6.32 Vrms. An headphone amplifier like the one presented in the current review will never be able to drive my headphones at their best.

I believe it uses cheap capacitors as the sound starts out very good, but deteriorates very quickly into crackling and low volume. I spoke to someone who is knowledgable about electronics who told me it's likely to do with low-grade components, especially capacitors. I don't know for sure, but many products like this look almost identical and it wouldn't surprise me if they are made in the same factories using the same circuit boards. It's a real shame because they are a neat little unit.
