I recently improvised and used silk span that use on fish fins. It's thin, strong and didn't interfere when using bondo. If you are a taxidermist that also mounts fish it is also an option. Love this idea too. Thanks

Used dryer sheets work well for me using this same tecnique. It actually looks like real flesh once glued in

I will definitely use the shaved skin next time. I have been using white latex glove cut down, but the skin looks nicer to handle

I haven't been able to find Crazy glue online in Australia. Maybe it has a different name?
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
Well crazy glue or Instant glue, or CA glue, or Super glue.. they are all the same. different names.

Can the inner ear skin be replaced if the skin is missing ? What to use ? The inner ear skin had sores in it from tics and when removing ear cartilage the inner skin was badly damaged.

What animal ?

@@johnc.wunscheljr2873 I see. so its a hairy one.. well if you have a spare cape that matches the color, you will probably be better off transplanting the whole ear where the hair is longer and easier to hide the seams than trying to transplant a thin skin inside the ears.. however, you can still mount the same damaged ear by gluing it really good and push the ears backward and not show off the problematic piece... repairing is very tricky no matter what animal and what part.. almost every time I come up with ideas by having the problem in front of me and staring at it for a long time.

Does this cause brittle patches when mounting???
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
Not brittle but a little bit stiff and dry, which again can be handled quite easily and when fully mounted everything get dry and stiff anyway.

@@ArtofTaxidermy thanks so much ❤️ definitely going to try this method now :)

@@cristelleolsen2371 No problem... I usually use glue when sewing is very difficult or impossible.. specially on ear skins, or very fine facial skins. give it a try you will like it.
