One of my biggest battles in taxidermy has been the eyes and eye rings. This is the best demonstration by far, that I have seen!

Thank you! This answered a lot of my questions. Would love to see a video on a sleeping duck or bird with closed eyes

Glad you found it useful. I have a few wood ducks , Mandarin, Harlequin ducks coming up in near future… one of the wood ducks might need to be in sleeping mode.

I just love you so much for making this video! Always tried to move the clay around and created the eyelid from clay. Way to much wovement of the skin, caused by this and a loss of feathers! So thank you soooooo much :****

Ahhh one of my top struggles in my bird work is eyerings. So I don't do many which leads to my struggles with them. Nice tip with the first eyering for the second to build on

What kind of epoxy and clay are you using for the eyes? Great video, i cant believe the amount of detail you put into your work

Thanks Dylan. I’m using oil clay, regular clay and for the eyelids I’m using Aves epoxy.

@@ArtofTaxidermy if the clay you’re using under the skin around the eye is oil based, do you simply leave it? It looked like you were pushing the skin into the oil based clay. Please tell me if I’m wrong, but oil based clay will never harden or dry out, so it will always be moldable later on. Do you ever worry that the clay will be dented or deformed later?

Boy oh boy I'm so pleased I found you! I've been doing Taxidermy for 43 years, self-taught , so it's been a struggle. Although I did achieve best all-around taxidermist in the state of Arizona 2001, and I'm still learning everyday. You are helping me a great deal! Thank you, thank you ,thank you. Question, are you using silicone caulking? Also, where you from Brother? Some of your English words sound like words used from my polish family when they speak English. But I know that's not what it is. Again I want to thank you immensely! Mounting Birds in Arizona has been a struggle because of the dry heat over here . now that I've watched you mount a bird before you blow dry it you gave me great ideas. I just wanted a ringneck pheasant your style and I love it! I still hit the inside of the skin with a little hydrogen peroxide here and there to keep it moist. And also try your head locking mechanism. I've never done that before either. Now I can adjust the position of the head and neck without fear of breaking the connection! You're the man! My hat is off to you! Yours in Taxidermy, Mike Bieda

Hi Mike Thanks for your message. I’m glad you are enjoying the channel. Search through the playlists you will find some other interesting videos too. We always can learn more , we are just touching the surface. We all have a long way to go. I’m using acrylic caulk not silicone. Silicone dries way too fast. Yeah most people are used to fully dry their birds before mounting... I did that too for years but mounting wet is actually quicker in my opinion and I see what I’m doing and most importantly the inside skin stays moist all the way , even after blow drying. Once or twice you do it and you will get the hang of it. Some exceptions like Turkeys... I blow dry half way first to make it a little lighter, otherwise we have a very heavy skin to work with. I’ve lived in Alberta Canada fir the past 20 years but originally I’m Persian.

Did you injured the feet before or after? Airbrush please do a video

Feet are usually injected when the mount is finished. I will do some airbrush work too.
