FALCON BMS: DETAILED SETUP AND CONFIG GUIDE

Often asked on how my setup is on Falcon BMS and a lot of the time people ask what mods I must be using to get it looking so nice.....I don't use pretty much any which comes as a suprise to most. Well this is a video I have promised for a while now and how I have everything setup.... here it is....

Absolutely brilliant and essential! I just fired up Falcon after a long hiatus and this guide helped my setup. Things I didn't even know I had set incorrectly before. The Nvidia panel settings are spot on. The ghosting glow was very annoying. Thank you! Very well Docu-men-tated.... That chamber music in the background... Made me want to fire up my copy of Barry Lyndon.....

Will you ever do Videos on the DCS F18 C ? I really enjoy your BMS videos with the voice comms and everything and since the BMS F18 isnt really good and the F18 C coming out for DCS ( maybe with the georgia free map update ) it will be one of the biggest sim releases this year.

Hi there. Thanks a lot for your video. I did everything that you have shown in this video. However, my plane is not clear. I mean the edges are curved, and it is not clear( straight). Great tutorial and for a recent version is a bonus! I have one issue though I'm having trouble finding the answer too. The windowed interface is great (which I prefer) but when I I commit I only see the desktop. I hear the game and can see it when I alt-tab but can't bring up the game? .

That's unusual, Not sure how to help on that. I would check in the BMS Launcher go down to Cockpit Display Extraction.... click that. Then go to Main and put in Left 0, Top 0, Width 0, and Height 0 (by default I think Width and Height should be grayed out anyways)... then make sure the Window box is ticked and Borders is not ticked. Rotation as 0 and no mirroring. Then save and close and try again. In 3d the game should just load in. I would hit some forums on this if it doesn't help.

Hi Code! How do you get this confirmation "beep" when Voice Attack recognized one of your commands? Is this a premium feature, or did you just bind an external audio file with every command? 'Cause I just use the free-version. Also, is there a way to get rid of the command input window in BMS. It's not necessary any longer if we use VA. (same with player-voice ofc.) Thanks for your good BMS content! ;)

Sorry I missed your comment and am late replying, yeah I just bound a beep to every command in the software ;). I have the full version of the software but I believe the only difference is the ammount of commands that you can bind. Don't think you can get rid off the command window though. Pleased your enjoying the videos

Awesome video much appreciated..... I use to play Falcon long time ago, and now i see it on steam. I'm following your video but see the add-on Balkans folder. I'm not seeing this folder am i missing something. What do i need to buy on steam to have everything? I'm using old disc copy One thing to note is when adding -window in shortcut, Win 10 will ask you to have Admin privilege if those on Win 10.

Rolland G Hi Rolland... You need to get Falcon BMS. If you already have falcon 4.0 then that's all you need to buy... Then head over to www.benchmarksims.org and download BMS 4.33. Follow the very detailed setup procedure... This will get you up to date with Falcon.... Then the Balkans is an add on campaign where you can also download from benchmark Sims in the theatre section. You will need to register on benchmark Sims.org to access the forum and to be able to download anything. Good luck and read the forums and docs for very precise and detailed help.

Thanks i already installed Falcon 4 and Falcon BMS 4.33. I started watching your guide, but seen i don't have Balkans Folder? I installed Full installer to my existing install directory of BMS. Should i do a clean install? Also when i launch the game it goes to my taskbar i put game into window mode using -window. If i remove the -window command i can play in full screen. I like the option to play in window mode not having to alt tab every time.

Rolland G okay...your almost there.... You won't have the Balkans folder until you download and install the Balkans Theatre (one of the best theatres ever made)... With regard to task bar and no screen.... Go open the launcher and go down to 'cockpit display extraction' then click on Main and make sure you have 0 in left,top,width,and height in the boxes.... Should solve the issue.

Unfortunately the constrainsts of the 2d window will not allow a resize.... Hopefully one of the things which could be addressed in 4.34/4.4....

@@rockdacasper found out my problem was with windows 10. I typed falcon4 bms windows 10 and I found it how to fix it on KZbin. Took me about 5 minutes. Now my resolution is awesome and my huds are perfect.

With regards to 4.35 onwards this video is not really current. Some of the setting will be different if you don't have a gsync monitor and if you card doesn't support certain techs.... I have a 1070 if that helps. In 4.35 they implemented Direct X 11 where this video was really geared to getting the best out of direct X 9. Nevertheless, many of the options mentioned in here are still good but a bit of trying and testing is required on your part to get the best experience visually. Hope that helps a little.

Hi man, thanks a lot for all this help. But in my case i put the game on window mode (-window) but his still with borde's. How i can put him in bordeless? ( Thnk i miss this information on video x.x)

Thats literally all yhou have to do to run it in window mode is add the -window option on the launch icon. 2d will always be small and in game will be borderless 3d. Another way and also recommended way of doing this is to install the "Alternative Launcher". You can get that from here : www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?31774-Falcon-BMS-Alternative-Launcher-(Easy-Setup-Keep-Joystick-Assignments)/ It is one of the config options there... also it will properly direct x bind all your controllers overall making for an easier setup. Good luck... get stuck at any point and head to the benchmarksim.org forums. Here you will find plenty of help.

Your ACMI is your on board flight data recorder... you can then use a program called tacview to analize in great depth your flight..... Regarding the F18... information will be in the docs folder in the game install location! There is not a lot of information on the 18 in there though.... This is a dedicated F-16 simulator...so tons and tons of data and information in that docs folder.... 18 is just for some fun! I fly it a fair bit and enjoy it a lot....if you want real.... get in the Viper!

Yeah everyone's been screaming at me to go for the viper but in all honesty I don't like it one bit x'D and now that between dcs,strike fighters,and this I've somewhat learned where buttons are I'd rather not xD With patience:) I've only just got a shtick and this will be my first time learning a fully touchable cockpit (I've only dabbled with low fidelity planes in dcs so far,and with a fooking keyboard xD)

Hello i was wondering if you could help me. So i set my g_bCenter UI to 1 like you did but when i hop into a mission i get a strange issue where the 3/4 of the game is hidden. @@jonathanbaago5312 yeah some are from the Balkans theatre I would imagine.... no need to worry... it's literally some new av8 sounds and f18 and breathing and f16 sounds that I changed...so about 12 files in total..

Sounds like you have a corrupt falcon.cfg suggest you try and get an original or go on the benchamarksims forum for a possible cause....sorry I cant help more for you.

You have limited options..... reduce the resolution or the workload on your card, use gsync or freesync if you have it, or enable vsync or cap the frame rate of the card. I don't suffer from screen tearing so not sure if there other options to you out there..... wish you luck in finding a solution if the above fails to cure it.

@@UnleashedCode yes it does but it is useless as its too small but thanks for the reply. Do you know the keys for moving the head view in the cockpit as some of the parts of the cockpit obscure the nobs that need pressing? I have to switch on the air cooling but I can't reach the nob as my head is one position and I have no clue how to move it. I am ready to drop this sim as it is so unstable, it is worst than the official 1.08 patch. The sim makes simple things like looking around so difficult.

Not sure I can help. Check benchmarksims.org and search there for issues you have been facing. Stability should be fine. Fly it day in day out

@@UnleashedCode It crashes all the time and locks pc up. it does this when I alt-tab. to watch videos. I have given up on the game now. Also, I got registry errors, it got so bad I had to restore my pc.. | am glad you got it to work, in bms 4.34 there are not take-off missions, etc. As for track ir i hate it, it is not a very good system. I have mine somewhere but, it just gave me eye strain and constantly having to adjust it. It is very prone to sunlight glare. Also, some of the community expect newbies to read a 150-page manual before answering questions, that is not fun and their attitude is a disgrace. Thx for the reply.

yes... very outdated video now. This really was useful when BMS was still running DX9. Now it is on DX11 configure it like any other modern day game and you will be fine ;)

Buy Falcon 4.0 (Not allied force) and its about £4 to purchase. then head on over to benchmarksims.org and register on the forum...then you can download falconbms and follow all the detailed instructions there. It is not the easiest of installs....but it is worth every second.....you get into this you won't stop flying for years.... it is that good

Falcon BMS is completely free.... although you do need to buy Falcon 4.0 to play it.... I believe it is about $6..... pure madness for the best combat flight sim ever created!
