Please note that the performance graphs show percentages relative to a 100% baseline. For example 117% means an uplift of 17% and 280% means 180% faster than the other system under test. This is important to get right. The machine itself seems to prove that Intel can (literally!) power its way past AMD, but that doesn't sit well with me. I'd prefer an efficient box even if it leaves some perf on the table.
@XDbored1
@XDbored1 Жыл бұрын
it depends on your definition of efficiency, as you require higher ratios of IO/compute your idle efficiency goes out the window, but the extra horsepower in most cases allows much better efficiency then what you could do trying to network 2 different computers, 10gb lan or 100/200gb is much more expensive then just building a bigger server as far power consumption goes if you just want low idle power a phone will be best, low idle power but still usable maybe a macbook, moderate idle, reliability and gaming performance a 13600k, things get niche when you have to decide if a 16 core CPU is enough, or if you need lots of PCIE lanes, or lots of memory channels, or if you need as much compute as possible, or the highest compute/watt possible the most efficient design possible for multi-threaded compute would be all the ecores in the world underclocked with 1 channel memory and no pcie lanes, but that would be a terrible computer
@gbjbaanb
@gbjbaanb Жыл бұрын
It's diffident for workstations, most of the time its going to be idling anyway, except for few times when you blast it out to 100%, Servers need the efficiency as they're likely to be working constantly. Your daily work of surfing the web on this isn't going to use any power. Shame these benchmark reviews only focus on max power draw rather than idling.

Mere hours after unboxing these are tools that need to live under full load for as long as possible. I'm happy to see the Red & Blue competition now giving me something overclockable & dependable. Falcon Northwest & competitors can now offer a greater range of products that highlight their build quality and team effort.

It is kind of funny how tech works some times. My local transit authority says they are less than 15 years away from validating a much needed upgrade to 80386 for the automation system used to control the trains. They said it might happen. But not to worry they had existing contracts with IBM that would required delivery of really old PC's for another 50 years. They are still looking for people to fill programming jobs in Cobol and other really old languages. They are still trying to get funding to upgrade software but are unlikely to get the funding required. They signed an obscenely large contract back in the 70's that was for like 100 years and have stockpiles of hardware. The gov will not allow them to upgrade the existing software without complete validation of every line of code. It took them over a billion dollars back in the late 70's early 80' and over 10 years to do it the first time. The trains have never had a crash and/or anything that was a safety issue that made the news here. It is kind of hard to believe they have operated automated trains on multiple different tracks with zero crashes for more than 45 years. But they did it. And it still runs off a floppy disk. Complete proprietary solution that does a single thing.

I don't understand why you were even considering workstation/server lineups if a consumer platform works for you. Why spend 5x more if you don't need it? Edit: And I'm sticking to x299, in my books there still isn't an upgrade available for it and x299 is still viable. The PCIe lanes alone make it worth it over any current consumer lineup. And if you don't need those than just get whatever consumer cpu you like.

Great video, and the fact that you were able to use such a new complex platform without many issues does speak to what Pat has been silently echoing publicly - an acceptance of delayed products, while asserting that the company aims to release quality silicon. I always thought their quality was better than competition, but it seems there's a new standard they are trying to set with any released products, which is good to see, in a world where bugs are now the norm and tolerated. I've never owned this class of product, but i always thought they were aimed for the select few who can tolerate above average levels of instability, as such, i didn't think this would be an easy launch

The drop in upgrade CPU's will probably be 13th gen core since these are 12th gen core. So we can get a pretty good idea on what the performance increase will be, unless they decide to put some of the server accelerators on them. This is all assuming they release an upgrade for the socket. Which I hope they will.
