Hi does anyone know what happened to the old wooden trip boat ‘Princess Mary’ which was last seen taking trips on the Falkirk Wheel. I Skippered her on the Norfolk Broads in the early 1990’s and last saw a video documentary of the designer of the Wheel being interviewed Taking a trip on her using the Wheel. Thanks, C.Booth.

Sorry can’t help on that one. There is a trip boat in the canal basin at the Kelpies, could it have moved there?

Andrew Gebbie hi Andrew, thank you for your response, I am visiting the Wheel and Kelpies next month so your info gives me a point at which to start looking. Can you describe the vessel? I have photos of her as I used to skipper her on the Norfolk Broads in the early 1990’s, and I have seen a film of her on the Wheel when the man who designed the Wheel was being interviewed for a documentary whilst cruising on the Princes Mary.

Carol Booth Hi Carol, I don’t want to build up your hopes. I thought that the trip boat featured in my Kelpies video may be the vessel you are seeking. However looking at it makes me think it is too big for the wheel. I think your best bet is to ask the locals at the wheel and at the Kelpies, someone may be able to help.

Andrew Gebbie hi Andrew, thank you for that, she is Seventy feet in length, in the original documentary I saw the boat was exiting the gondola into the basin. Her name was distinctly seen across the stern. She is a unique shape because she was lengthened a few years after her build . Cut in half across midships and an extra ten feet added. I have found today a drone video filmed by ‘Skyeye’ drone filming company which shows this unique shape, so with one engine, no bow thruster this meant I relied on ‘extended wing mirrors either side and a central mirror above the forward cockpit.
