On Thursday, September 26th at 5:30 PM. Faculty member from NSU's Halmos College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Joyce Avotri, presented a lecture on:
"Using Sociology to Understand Health and Illness in Society"
Dr. Joyce Avotri Wuaku, is an Associate professor of sociology who teaches sociology classes in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies. Her research interests are in Medical Sociology, Women’s health, Healthcare systems, international development / Globalization and health. Her research focus is on the Social Construction and Social Production of Health and Illness among women in Ghana and this has led her to investigate women’s own views on the connection between their daily life experiences and their health in southern Ghana. Her articles based on findings from her research work have appeared in journals and a book contribution. Dr. Avotri Wuaku has collaborated with other professors on a project in Ghana that researched the nexus of spirituality, health needs and healthcare access among the elderly in a small community in Ghana. She is currently authoring a book that puts together findings from her research on Ghanaian women’s perception of their health.
