It’s 4:45 in NYC and I’m overjoyed to hear about the Automat. I grew up in the 50s and I went to the Automat all the time as a poor student. The only problem with the story is that I listened to every word so, of course I couldn’t go to sleep. Now I’ll try! Thank you for a terrific story. A new documentary of the Automat by Lisa Hurwitz came out in the past two years which is absolutely terrific.

When I was writing the story, I consulted my voice teacher of many years, who has lived in the Upper West Side for decades, beginning, I think, in the 1950's. She was similarly fond of the automat and said that she missed it a lot because it was always "clinically clean and of COURSE full of THEATER PEOPLE." A ringing endorsement!

Let me comment again that I absolutely adore this little slice of a day in what seems like a simpler time. I just love her thoughts, observations, and appreciation while partaking in this refreshing part of her day. This type of "non-story" is my favorite kind of Bedtime Story. Just a slow, smooth, descriptive rambling (that I don't have to keep up with plot and characters) where I can turn off thinking and just float through lovely imagery ... Ahhh, yes. Perfect.

I would defintely buy get sleepy pjs or tshirts. At 57 years old, i have always had sleep issues. A few months ago i heard something on a tv show about bedtime stories for adults. Ive tried everything and dont like artficial sleep help ie drink drugs etc 9ther than sleep tea herbal. Anyway i found Get Sleepy and while all the narrators are wonderful, i look forward to going to bed every night and hearing the intro and a story especially told by Thomas. There is something about his voice that truly has mafe an impact and al5hough i do not sleep right through yet, i qm definitely making progress and where i used to hate going to bed its now my favorite time of day. GET SLEEPY...❤❤❤❤

Outstanding! I've listened to this one several times. This is the first time I made it to the end of the story. Great pacing, soothing voice that's just monotone enough to fall asleep to. Oh my gosh, this was spoken by a woman with an American accent? I listened 3 times and all I heard was a man with an unattractive British or Australian accent. I guess I fell asleep too quickly each time to find out! Now that I'm listening, I vaguely remember being in this automat. It must have been in the late 60s - early 70s when I was a little kid. For some reason I have a memory of broken floor tiles - art deco, of course.
