Hi Veronica, your name is one of three names I had chosen to name my baby girl, who is now almost fifty years old. I ended up naming her Angelique. Now about T.V. services, I live in California and I don’t know how much you pay. But, we were paying $1,200.00 a year for basic cable which included about 400 channels of infomercials (or so it seemed) probably more, lol!! We also had the Internet and home phone service included in the pkg. So two years ago we decided to cut everything off and bought two pay as you go phones. We can now afford to buy things that we really need! And don’t miss it! I am also an avid book reader, but we have other things to keep my husband and I busy. We’re retired, so we have the luxury of doing with our time what we choose. I promise you that you won’t miss cable. My husband put up an antenna, so much smaller than the ones from our childhood! We get enough channels to keep us happy when we want to watch T.V. and a DVD box for movies. Take care!

What were your fav things to do? I have a 3 yr old and am trying to transition from tv time and to learn a new (per Jesus) way! This summer we gardened, I’d like to learn how to sew and knit. For now it’s mostly play dough, paints, books and crayons. 🙂
@BelindaTN3 жыл бұрын
You think tv was sin waves back when you stopped watching it, you should see what is in our faces now. Way back when, if you wanted to watch sin, you had to go looking for it or subscribe to the channels that offered it. It is now on all channels and at all times of the day. Way back when, you had to watch it late at night. There seems to be no restrictions on that any more.

You hang pictures just the way I do! I never undertand why people say they're afraid to put a hole in the wall, and leave their walls blank. It's so fulfilling to decorate for the seasons. I felt warm and cozy just thinking about being bundled up with my family, reading or playing Rummy, or just talking. You were born to be a mother and share your style and gentleness with the world.

My sister & her husband, while raising their kids, did without a television too, each reading & engaging in one form of creativity or another to pass the time. Today their adult children remain avid readers and each became an excellent writer too, one even a poet. No TV is my way of life too. The only station that's missed at all is the PBS affiliate.

My husband and I decided when we got married 46 years ago that we didn’t want to have a tv. We raised our kids this way and books were the most interesting entertainment going. They are all lifelong learners. I was glad for not having one and most of them still don’t choose to have one. They did miss out on a lot of the “culture” that other kids their age grew up with, but I think that’s a very small price to pay for what they gained from it. I love the coziness of your living room. I’m writing this as I sit here before the wood fire in mine. I painted the room in a dark color to give a sheltering feeling. My niece says this room feels like a hug, perfect! Some books you might find interesting are written by Sarah Susanka. Not So Big House is the first one, I think.

Wow....and you stuck with it, I applaud you 👏 it’s hard in modern society to stay regimented as I for one, start to think about what people will say, what I will be missing without a tv, etc. so good for you and your family that you all stuck with that incredible decision 👍👌☺️
@cynthiafisher99074 жыл бұрын
@@beautymaven3952 I think once you make the decision, it becomes easier. Although, I was a stay at home mom and we mostly homeschooled, so I and the kids weren’t constantly around people talking about all the great tv shows. But, I think tv is so overblown and sensationalized, whatever I’m missing out on, I’m glad for! It’s very counterproductive spiritually and emotionally.
@beautymaven39524 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiafisher9907 well, you hit the nail on the head because I have even gotten anxiety from just watching a Talk Show! Yes, you’re right about it having been easier because you home schooled....so that is a lot less pressure on the children. But again, I commend you and your husband and children for not giving in to temptation (society) because it will be like going down a rabbit hole to “keep up with the Joneses”. So much pressure today for having material things, I always have to take a step back and even watch minimalism videos to stay normal and not consumed.

We lived in Green Bay from 1968 to 1974 and I miss Door County so much. We enjoyed the antique shops and cafes and of course, the people and always wished I could live in beautiful Door County.....so lucky you. I am like you in many respects: although I do have a television (no cable), I seldom watch it and would much rather travel, read a book or work and play in my yard. We used to spend over $150 a month for cable so that my husband could watch all of his football, baseball, tennis, golf......well, you get it. I convinced him after many years, to let it go for six months and then if he wanted it back, then we could do it. He did not miss it and that surprised both of us; because of that, we saved $929.70 during those first six months. That was quite a savings and we still do not miss having cable. PS: he still enjoys his local stations where he can "catch" most of his ball games.

I’m surprised with Covid surging tgatbyoyre having lots of company. Pray you and your family stay safe. I haven’t had a television in 10 years and don’t miss it. I do follow the national news because I think as citizens we need to stay informed. I am an avid reader as a retired English teacher I can’t seem to ever be without a book. My grands are avid readers too. My son reads aloud to his children and keeps a book their sharing going all the time. My ten year old grandson read 28 books this summer. So proud of them.

You should be so proud of him. That is great. I find the national news pretty biased. I try to seek out other sources to stay informed.

@@ParisienneFarmgirl I'm curious what sources you seek to stay informed? I think a lot of times we seek the information we want to hear, confirmation bias is real, unfortunately. I think so many people are tired of the pandemic so they seek and look for sources that tell them it is not real or it is safe to go about life as normal. The numbers do not lie, the hundreds of thousands of dead and the families they left behind are very real. I wish everyone would do their part and make the sacrifice if that is what they feel it is to stay home with their own families so we can get over this virus. It just seems like it will never end if people continue not to follow the guidelines such as having lots of people over for the holidays. So very disappointing and disheartening.

Love your aesthetic. Very calming. Brings back memories of my childhood in the northern Italian countryside
