Dogs actually have a section of their brains specifically dedicated to interpreting human facial expressions! So they watch you and over time know which facial expressions mean what. Since animals communicate mostly with body language, and dogs have lived along side humans for so long, it became beneficial to understand our body language too. That said, it could also be a hormone thing. Sweat produced by fear contains different chemicals than sweat produced by, say, heat, and might smell differently to an animal with a strong sense of smell. The wasp and larva thing makes sense too, since larva are actually a source of food for wasps! Wasp larva produce a sugary substance that adult wasps consume, so they have incentive to not only keep the larva well fed, but also protect them fiercely. The insects I'm most afraid of are ants tbh. They fear neither man nor god, and many WILL sting just because you looked at them wrong, and then send out a signal that calls their brethren to come sting too (like wasps).

Not only animals can smell the different smells of sweat, a lot of human can too. It's quite useful because when you are sick your sweat smells different too, it can help to detect some illnesses.

Actually insects can be incredibly smart, especially bees. They communicate in some kind of extremely precise dance based on math to tell others where the new hive could be. Then they all fly exactly where the dancing bee told them without ever missing the spot. They use the sun to tell others where to go. And the spot can be kilometers away from the hive and they’ll still find it. New hives prospects are inspected one by one by the colony to find the best one. When they fins the best one they come back to their hive and dance for it

I found the part where you discussed if animals could sense fear very interesting. They can't "sense" fear, however they're experts at reading body language since that's their way of communication. So, many animals can "sense" fear in you, by reading body language. I don't know about spiders and such, but mammals however do that. Humans can speak with words whereas animals cannot, and therefore they have to rely on their ability to read what you mean by watching you.

Explaining jokes should be normalized. Explaining a joke does not "ruin" it. So many people (myself included) have neurological issues that affect our ability to process certain things. Jokes and sarcasm being a big one. If someone tells me a joke I won't understand it. It's not that I just didn't get it, I physically can't process it. Someone has to explain it to me in order for me to laugh. Explaining a joke doesn't ruin it, it just makes it so everyone can laugh at the joke together.
@dmbradley44 жыл бұрын
Communist jokes aren't funny unless everyone gets them.
@madness19314 жыл бұрын
I don't think explaining the joke ruins it, it's the delayed gratification. When someone tells a joke, you expect a reaction, a laugh, cheer, boo, etc. When that doesn't happen, and there is a delay, it kind of sticks out, and ruins it for the teller. If the joker then has to explain what's been said, that can further delay the gratification. In the case of social media... where the teller does not know who you are, and your condition, it might seem like you are taking the piss. A good example of why explaining a joke does not ruin it is actually the r/jokes subreddit. When the joke is actually original (and not a repost, which is quite common), you do see folks who don't understand the joke. In which case the community tends to explain things. In the case of Reddit, you don't get that instant reaction (if you get one at all), it's delayed, and you expect that.
@dgtooth4 жыл бұрын
I agree, i honestly have only said that it ruins the joke because other people say that too and i just go with the crowd pretty much.
@trekadouble7574 жыл бұрын
I have a similar problem as you, and I don't always get jokes. But I don't entirely agree with you. I would say that it depends on how many people are there. If someone makes a joke during a discussion between multiple people and everyone laugh except one person, I feel like explaining the joke right there and then in front of everyone stops the flow of the discussion and makes it a little akward for the people that got the joke already. They don't really need to hear it twice. In those situations, I either do a fake laugh and let it at that, either ask the person when we are alone what the joke was. But during a discussion between two people, it's different. Then the person can take the time to explain the joke, and it is true that it does not ruin the fun. It just takes longer to come.
@placerofobs50204 жыл бұрын
See, explaining jokes doesn't ruin it for me, but it seems weird to tell someone else their experience hasn't been worsened when I'm not able to perceive things as they have. I would not go up to a person in real life and tell them they've actually enjoyed having a joke explained to them if they tell me the explanation has made things less funny or more tedious to them. I would not negate their personal experience just because it doesn't match up with mine. It's subjective. Explaining a joke DOES NOT always make it so everyone can laugh together, sad as it is. Explaining jokes DOES ruin it for some people. I don't fully understand it, but I respect it. If we don't try to find some kind of middle ground all we're doing is swapping who has a worse experience. Rather than focusing on "normalizing" one thing or the other I think we just need to acknowledge that different people are going to need different treatment.

Animals do not sense it they can tell between smell and body language. Just like you can tell when someone is unsure. Insects react to CO2 so if you start breathing on them they will react to it. Some run some engage(like bees and wasps as a defense against nest intrusion). (though you can knock some of the small bugs out for a moment by blowing on them because you deprive them of O2 enough) :) This has been your unnecessary animal information of the day. If you wondering I am an animal geek but also I have found most people like to talk about animals in general so I have loaded up on random information to side track any conversations that are too aggro. RANDOM ANIMAL FATCTS to avoid confrontation for the win!

For the record, horses absolutely do perceive whether you're afraid of them, nervous or anything like that. They're very good at body language; it's proven they can recognize human expressions and remember which one you wore the last time you met them. Also why they're used in therapy with veterans and autistic children, because they help people ground themselves and serve as a bit of an "emotion gauge". :) It's not that they'll smell your hormones or anything, it's they'll literally read the room and understand it just like a human would. Ants are very intelligent animals too, especially for their size. They teach each other, and they even adapt their teaching methods according to another ants' abilities. They have agriculture, they herd aphids, and they can recognize an ant of the same colony even when they're from different continents! Ants are dope.

Wait, you never played TimeSplitters? When it comes to FPS games, I grew up with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark back on the N64, so I immediately loved TimeSplitters as it was made the former Rare employees that made those yet had their own cartoony spin on things. Personally think the second has the best multiplier (which includes "virus" that was mentioned in the stream) while the third has a better story mode, though, multi is fun in it too. Sucks that plans to revive the franchise keeps running into issues, though, yet another attempt has been announced.

The fake wasp nest works wonders. My hubby specializes in things lkke that and he swears by that trick. Use a brown paper bag, crumple it and hang it near where the old nest was. And with bears, there are quite a few (ex. Black bears) where making yourself big and loud will run them off. But with bears like a grizzly bear, you should play dead and lay in a fetal position and cover your vitals. Just things ive learned from my hubby who knows literally everything about animals/bugs.

Fun! It's been a while since I've a game with all the 4 of you! And this game is so pleasing to watch ~ For bears, I watched a video recently of Mike Horn that explains that if you see a polar bear (I think it applies to normal bears then) you have to scream the hardest you can and make really weird and fast gestures to show that you're a threat to them or you're fucked. It's a very interesting video I recommend it. It's in french but there are english subtitles! Name's "Comment se défendre contre un ours polaire" on Mike Horn's channel.

I caught this stream already so I've seen this, but I just wanna say that your right Gab! Games like this are not my forte; I'm into serious games only. You said at the end LOU2 vids about how you wanted to play more "happy games" like this one here...with all the BS going on in the world like Covid-19, abusive cops and a president who's out of his fucking mind, games like this are essential to help change the mood of all around us. This stream popped up late the other day, so I actually had a chance to watch it in it's entirety; I see why people love this so much - hell, I even had fun watching-(and I'm the enemy of fun)! Unemployment sky high, families struggling financially and for food, sure games like this won't fix any problems, but at least it will put smiles on faces and make people laugh; and that's saying a lot! This is a cool ass game, a bit repetitive, but still cool as shit! With me, if you shove it in my face long enough I'll either learn to love it or hate it more - but this is a "LIKE" game for me so it's in the middle.

I'd advise watching a long video like this while also playing your own game or doing something productive if you don't like watching it by itself. Multitasking helps! Don't expect people to change their methods to suit your needs but that does not mean you can not find a way to fit it into your style on your own.
