It states at the very beginning that he was granted a marriage by the king. It also states that he is fully aware that his wife is looking for that Jade sun seal. It did give a little bit of background that the king did have a legitimate heir. But he was hidden because he would be dead/killed.

This was surprisingly good! The costumes and makeup made all the actors look fabulous. The plot and acting were a bit melodramatic, but in the best possible way. Would definitely recommend.
