That Ohio PA hat is great. I thought for sure you were going to move from socks to knitting mittens and gloves. I've got some good pattern recommendations when you're ready. For knitted textures, I usually go to anthologies like Barbara G Walker's Treasury of Knitting Patterns series. I also have done some fun textures as afghan blocks based on the books "The Great American Afghan" and "The Great American Aran Afghan." These books seem to be out of print and can be pretty expensive.
