Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, many Afghans have been scrambling to flee the country, but their options are limited as many countries are closing their borders to refugees. Turkey and Pakistan are refusing to take in new Afghan migrants as the two countries are already hosting some of the largest numbers of refugees in the world. Meanwhile, South Korea is evacuating Afghans who worked on South Korean projects and are in the process of allowing them to stay for an extended period of time.

South Korea arranged a daring rescue sending in even Special Forces to protect the Afghans from outside of the Kabul Airport where Taliban had a strong hold. They brought them inside safely and are now housed in special quarters in various places in South Korea. This is what humanity is. You never betray a friend.

S Korea knew that over 50% of the evacuees were babies and children, so they were prepared mattresses, baby formulas, nappies and soft toys for them and the mothers at departure from their country. And the soldiers took their only essential stuffs so the freight is not over loaded. An Korean embassador went back to the danger to keep the words to rescue all coworkers and the families.

The USA and the West should stop interfering in these countries and trying to bring about democracy or regime change. Trying to bring freedom to these countries just stirs up more troubles and troublemakers. Just let them be and don’t worry about what goes on inside these countries. Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Libya, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen and United Arab Emirates are authoritarian. Turkey, Morocco and Lebanon are considered to be hybrid regimes. Tunisia and Israel are ranked as flawed democracy.

@@vladmir6301 I'll tell you the facts, so listen carefully. Even if Korea ignores this situation, other countries cannot blame Korea. This has nothing to do with Korea and there is no cultural connection between the Islamic State and Korea. Korea did not invade or colonize the Islamic State. This means that Korea has not affected the misery those countries are experiencing now. Nevertheless, Korea helped them. Considering that Korea is not an Islamic culture, it was a big decision. Because Korea risked accepting Muslims. I think Korea should be properly evaluated in this area. Please, I hope that people like you will not put pressure on South Korea for not accepting Muslim refugees in the future. It is a problem that must be addressed by the countries directly responsible.

Don’t Blame the Afghans ! If the United States fails to understand the key structural mistakes it made in Afghanistan and elsewhere, it will continue to repeat them. No democracy and human rights over USA bombing diplomacy in Afghanistan.

SCMP forgot Indonesia where the locals are outraged of the attitude of the Afghan refugees who keep demanding priveleged treatment whereby Indonesia isn't particularly a rich country and still battling the Covid-19 surge.

@@lol22964 I'm Indonesian, and there's a lot of local news saying about that. The most famous one is when one of the refugee named their children as "UN prisoner" or "Tahanan PBB". Most Afghans want to go to Australia and Malaysia, not Indonesia. And Indonesia always the crosspoint between them due large sea territory. The rohingya refugee for example, got caught when they drifted in Indonesian waters. They got deported back after a few months because Indonesia is not financially strong enough to hold a refugee.
