"Fan awards" sadly, in the mid 2000's is when hip-hop was starting to take over MTV and mtv2. I remember watching MCR,FOB,Blink182,The Used, Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Kills Killswitch Engage, Mudvayne, KoRn, Disturbed, ADTR, TDWP, Alesana, Anberlin, Blue October, Senses Fail, Silverstein, Armor For Sleep, Hawthorne Heights, and so many more on MTV before it's fall from Grace around 2008/9 and it just became a recycling bin for all the trash that didn't get a MTV slot. True, meaningful, well thought and performed music started taking a backseat to dull,unoriginal,debauchery hip hop. Because it started becoming "the cool stuff" I'm 22 and feel 40 from how awkward and singled out I felt growing up listening to Alternative,Punk,Pop-punk,Metal, Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, and so much more. It only furthered my depression feeling like a weirdo for listening to music I liked. But I carried on. Now I scoff at young people "just discovering" bands that have been around for over a decade. "Better late than never" perhaps, but they used to scoff at this music. People are horrible. Well, most of them.
