This is a song that Pete wrote for Patrick after his suicide attempt, thanking him for being there and telling him how great he is. It also references Donny Hathaway(referenced in the title even though it's spelled differently). Donny Hathaway committed suicide. His partner was Mrs. Flack(I think her real last name was Flacka though, changed for copyright purposes), so in my opinion, I think it's like Patrick is saying that even though Pete was giving up on himself Patrick was still there for him and he wasn't going to leave Pete("Mrs. Flack said I still want you back"). and the little snippets of the old Fall Out Boy songs are for Patrick showing him all the stuff he has done for the band, because Patrick has/had bad self esteem issues("I've got troubled thoughts / And the self esteem to match"). And the part that Elvis Costello sings("I will never end up like him") is saying that Pete knows now that Patrick cares for him and is always there for him and so he won't end up like Donny, he won't give up on himself or the band again. 😊 Hope this helps for the ones who didn't get it, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. It took me a minute to understand too, but now that I do, it's just so amazing.

Martha Gerdes​ Pete's also the reason Patrick wears fedoras. In early FOB they were at a photoshoot and they wanted to take pics of Patrick alone, but he was really shy. when I first heard this song, I had Folie a deux on shuffle and I was still quite new to the FOB fandom. I was reading a Peterick fanfic where pete and Patrick eventually get married and adopt a girl but one day her and Patrick die in a car crash. I am a big fan of fall out boy and every time I heard this song I cry non stop, mostly at the end of the song because it was the time they go into a hiatus and this was a way to say a little goodbye and see you next time to the fans, so sometimes it hurts hear it. Sorry if I’m to sensitive 😅
