I feel like everyone here is missing the point of the song. But on the other hand maybe I'm super overthinking here, judge by yourselves... For me this video is not only a response to accusations of selling out as it was mentioned in comments few times before. It is also (or mostly) about the way people treat and comment on guys, telling them how to look and what to do (like the couple in red shirts in the vid). In some interviews Patrick says about hating fedora but still wearing it because people demand it. Or Joe about cutting his hair because people wanted it. When he did it they actually wanted him to grow them back... For me this continuous pleasing fans ("Becoming strange shape from trying to fit in") is expensive mistake, mistake so bad that they want to "run away and never see any of us (as fans) again". As far as that goes, when guys tell us here "umm guys this is how you treat us and we kinda don't like it", and almost every second comment here is still "i'd have this or that product (speaking about actual living human beings)" or generally when I see under every FOB vid: "Andy/Joe/Patrick/Pete is mine", "would you cut that hair already" "bringfedoraback" I'm like: dude, you want to tell someone what to do with their life (little hypocrite of me here, I know), go ahead play some Sims but first apologize to this awesome men, and I mean right now!

guys i got it: they’re selling all their stuff from older eras (youngblood chronicles hand, patrick’s suit from dance dance) and they’re making them expensive. but, the suits and hands and stuff represent all the things they’ve accomplished as a band. BUT, they’re selling them, like a metaphor for ‘selling out’ and getting rid of their history, hence the title ‘expensive mistakes’ because it’s expensive to sell them, and selling out is a mistake. sorry if that made no sense, i didn’t know how to word it lmao
