I agree, I really don’t like Halloween, or fall, in NY fall means it’s the end of gardening season. That actually makes me sad and it starts to be gray outside every day and long cold winter. Not to be Debbie downer but it’s just the beginning of cold wet weather. Then come my favorite spring when everything comes back to life again. I do love to see how excited MaCenna and Romeo get for it though.

Halloween is always at my besties, we sit in the driveway, have a little buffet dinner, build a fire, and give out candy. This way little kids don’t have to come all the way to the door. It’s so much fun to watch all the little ones and I love this tradition.

When I buy mums, I look for flower buds only and pray they bloom the tag color. They don’t last very long and I usually like them to last till Halloween. After that, they die in our zone 6. If they are hardy mums in your zone, you can plant them before first frost and they will come back next year to save you some $$. Just cut them back to the ground before spring growth and you’re golden. Hope this helps others save too!

My theme this year is misunderstood witch vibes 😂 I already have a beautiful large cast iron cauldron that I thrifted this summer. I bought a cheap decorative broom & bulked it up with sticks. I also bought crows & rats that I will nest in my wreath, pumpkins & mums. It’s halloween but subtle. Witchy but pretty.

The Halloween tree you got looks similar to the tree from nightmare before Christmas that has the little skeletons hanging from it. If you’re trying to stay on theme, you should add those little skeletons.

Spooky tree is awesome. Great addition to Jack! Trader Joe’s for sure and Walmart for pumpkins. Great prices. They also sell small pumpkins or gourds in a mesh bag for like $4- $6. Some of your pumpkins are good in soup, bread or muffins 🧑‍🍳 👩‍🍳

If you don’t want to repot, maybe add some burlap or something around the mums where you can see the plastic pot in the terracotta pot? Like inside the the pot, not on the outside. It will help it to look a little more finished. 😊

Cutest video ever! Since my youngest son was born on Halloween (I am a mom of 3 grown sons) I enjoyed this so much! You have no clue how many decorations inside and out he has!!! Cute, love it all. I started back in August and I waited till the end of August. Right now, my carved pumpkins are facing the wall like they’re in time-out but I’m probably going to face them outward and add lights soon. I really like the pumpkins you picked out this year. I saw so many pretty green ones at HEB but I kept talking myself out of it, simply cause I have no idea what to do with real pumpkins afterward! By the way, if I was you, I would start pinching some of the mum flowers off so they can regrow by the end of October. Also, they don’t really die. They come back… so think of them as investments too. My little ones (the size of the small terra cotta pots you have) are coming back and it’s been about 2 years now. My big mums already bloomed and it’s in a nice fluff ball shape. Haha. Happy Autumn!

Recommendation so your pumpkins last longer, place a piece of paper under them (between the brick and the pumpkin) so they last longer and don’t rot so easily. Someone gave me this tip a few years back and it made such a huge difference (something about the pumpkins not touching the floor directly, who knows). It looks great!!😊

I buy mums every year. When Thanksgiving rolls around I dead head them, clean them up and plant them. They are VERY easy to grow. Now I have mums all over. I love seeing a NBC theme because that's what I do! (Well until we lost our house in a storm. No decorating for now.) But I went ALL out! Black Christmas trees, all the characters, music,lights, the works. We don't even get trick or treaters where we live. I just decorate for me lol People would come to our house and ask to take pictures. It was a lot of fun. 😊😊😊
