Fall River Fatties Fly Fishing

Fly fishing with a friend on the cold, clear, spring fed Fall River for some pretty big hawg trout! Some of them were so big they kept flopping out of the net. Guess we might need some bigger nets....
I spotted the last fish walking out and just had to go for it, so fun!
This is my first attempt at shooting some GoPro footage and editing a video to put on KZbin. It takes a lot of work but it's pretty fun!

If you cast twice and don't catch a fish, put on a beige egg pattern.

heading out there in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions on flies? That big I am guessing a streamer but would love to hear some local advice. Thanks.

They get a lot of pressure this time of year. Streamers can be good but sometimes they have seen them all so they get selective and you have to go to tiny drys and nymphs. Sight fishing with a small dry is where it's at this time of year!

What X tippet would you suggest?

I generally just use 5X for almost everything but when I throw heavier streamers sometimes I'll size up to 4X or even 3X if I'm targeting big fish in woody areas and I'm going to need to apply heavy pressure to get them out.

If bugs are flying, match the hatch. If not then they will probably be sipping midges just below the surface. I love tiny soft hackles for those times!
