What I love about this sequence is that it’s so simple - they’re just switching places - but the music and the player’s knowledge of their relationship up to this point lets them fill in the blanks. In context, this may as well be on the level of the ballroom dance from Beauty and the Beast. Itoi and Co really knew how to make ‘em.

Even if it is limited movement (it’s on a Famicom for goodness sakes), you could tell Itoi had little to work with, but his idea still is executed well for its time. You just have to imagine. Back in the early days of gaming, cutscenes were almost unheard of. The games would just jump straight into the gameplay and little else besides the ending.
