@@becausemiro Omg he HAS to do TTPD in full...like the whole discography at this point. There are sooooo many hidden gems and amazing deep cuts that are nothing like her radio singles. To really experience Taylor you have to just dive all the way into the rabbit hole head first in my opinion. :)
@MSerrada12 күн бұрын
Don't rush into a TTPD reaction. It's a deep dive and IMO it really helps having more of a history with Taylor's discography before listening to TTPD. Please react to other albums before TTPD.

@MusicalMiranda822 күн бұрын
Definitely midnights before TTPD, and before going BACK to Folklore. Hehe. I left a comment elsewhere but it's hard to find now lol. I thought of another example where songs in TTPD reference Folklore/Evermore, AND Midnights. "I Hate it Here" is the song. So yes, please listen to Midnights before TTPD. :-)
@isaacccol67542 күн бұрын
Second this! Tortured Poets gets a lot of its value from intertextuality and context; some of the songs, such as So Long, London, are literally built from references, allusions and call backs to songs throughout her discography. This goes for MANY of the tracks on ttpd.
@MSerrada1Күн бұрын
@thedeanrudd At least watch Reputation before...and preferably Lover. FYI, both have more bops and upbeat songs that will help energized & lighten the mood. TTPD is a great album. Her most vulnerable, but it can be a tough one to get through for a person who is high on the emotional IQ scale. Be sure to break it up...maybe break the total 31 songs into 3 sessions? Too many tried to listen to all 31 songs the night they dropped. Not recommended.

Aaron also has his hands on some of the eat tracks on TTPD main album (So Long London, But DaddyI Love Him, The Smallest Man Whoever Lived, LOML, and Clara Bow) on the 2nd album (The Anthology) is almost all Aaron as co-writer and producer. It’s more ‘sleepy’ compared to main album but the real instruments and layering are amazing. Aaron is pretty much the only person she really works with she writes to track with. When Jack is co-writer, typically Taylor comes to him with much of the song already in her head and he helps fill in the gaps, edits, etc.

the verse "your midas touch on the chevy door" refers to the mythological legend of king midas, who had the power to turn everything he touched into gold, but this was also a bit of a curse, because he ended up ruining everything he liked and couldn't touch anything. chevy is short for chevrolet, which is a very common car. so, we can interpret this verse as the power that this person had to transform everyday moments or simpler things into important, valuable things, but still, there was something that bothered her, that didn't let her like him completely.

I too love the conclusion of the album with evermore, a great reminder that no matter how much the pain feels permanent when these things happen, in reality it won’t be forevermore. I love what she did with the bonus tracks too. She made them to highlight the point that, when something is over, we have a choice to make. We can either choose to get hung up on it, letting it ruin our lives, or we can let it go and move on to find new good things. A great album with great messages! Glad to see your passion for it too. Love ur reactions, very insightful. Tolerate It is SO painful, having been married to someone for 20 years who didn’t appreciate me, it cuts deep. Cowboy Like Me is an incredible song, sounds like nothing else in her discography.

These two albums really baffle me as to how some people think Taylor makes "meaningless drivel for the masses" and how they think she's not talented. Like are you listening to the same album as me??

We're the same. It was also my girlfriend, now my wife, who introduced me to Taylor back in 2017. 15 albums later, still here.

Ending the album with the lines "I couldn't be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar this pain wouldn't be for evermore" is so empowering. IMO the top 3 Taylor Swift albums are 1. evermore 2.folklore 3.The Anthology (second half of The Tortured Poets Department) Although I think 2 and 3 are interchengeable now haha. Btw a big part of those 3 albums are produced by Aaron Dessner who also produces and plays in The National

Taylor with Bon Iver are perfection together.... In the song evermore, the change of rhythm in the bridge with Bon Iver indicates an epiphany, when she realizes that the pain is not forever. That's why in the first verse she was "barefoot in the wildest winter" and in the second verse the "floors of a cabin were creaking under her steps" she was no longer outside in the wildest winter, she was protected in the cabin, where she realized that the pain would not be evermore.
@thedeanruddКүн бұрын
Wow! There's so many layers to these songs, I need to listen closer and closer
@emy.raislanyКүн бұрын
@@thedeanrudd maybe that's why she managed to be so successful. People need to listen to her songs multiple times to get all the details. It is impossible to catch all of that on the first listen

After folklore & evermore, my next fave is TTPD/Anthology BUT (and it’s a BIG ‘BUT’- to truly appreciate it, you need to know more lore/history or parts won’t make sense. And unfortunately there is a LOT of lore. But (again) we Swifties will get you up to speed as quickly as we can! Discord and long comments on YT will help. Same goes with some videos of hers (Look What You Made Me Do, I Can See You, etc). Maybe start at the beginning (yes, it means listening to a girl who still has a teenage voice singing about teenage angst for a coup of albums… but it’ll be worth it when you get to reward yourself with lots of Aaron Dessner.. 🎉😂

I ADORE that the deluxe version gives you two options after ending with “this pain wouldn’t be for evermore,” with YOU getting to pick if you want to stay right where you’ve been left and hope it all comes back to you, or accept that you know it’s time to move on… this album is basically therapy in 70 minutes and it will always be my favourite body of work to ever exist 🤎
@thedeanrudd2 күн бұрын
Oh I didn’t even consider it in that way! That’s such a fun perspective on the two bonus tracks, I love it!

@ thank you! evermore has loads of little tidbits that i think just show taylor’s writing off sooooo well here! one of my favourites is in happiness (which, by the way, was written 1 week before the album was released) where she says “you haven’t met the new me yet.” i like to think this carries two meanings- “you haven’t met the healed version of me yet” and “you haven’t met my replacement yet” which again is another knife twist in an already painful song 💔
