Meg Elphick did a video with a professional who taught her how to fall properly and to practice the better falling forms so they become more automatic. Very good ideas there because everyone falls off sometimes:)

We met you at Redpost last October. My daughter was in a wheelchair, having broken her femur in s cross country fall. She is now fully recovered and back in the saddle. Hoping to get to see you again, (on both feet), when you go there again in August!!!

great video! i am 14 years old girl and i live in belgium. I love watching your videos because they are very educational and I have wanted to ride horses since I was two. my parents thought horseback riding was just a bit too expensive. I am now 14 and I have been learning on the internet and from the people around me for 4 years now. I have to wait another year because then I can start working and pay for it myself. I learn a lot from you and you already let me enjoy the horse world a bit, so thank you!

I have the same problem. My mom move to another city 7 years ago and all the girls in my class were horse girls and me and my twin wanted try too. We rode first time at 10 years old and we always wanted to go again ride but my mom couldn't pay for lessons because her job pay is so bad. Every time when we ask for a lesson our mom rage to us :( Now we are almost 17 years old and me and my twin moved far away from home and we got some study grant, because we moved far away from home and we don't get money for anything because we don't have a job. Our study grant is sometimes left over, which we can use for riding lessons, but I still hope that one day I can canter and jump obstacles and know how to care of horses.

I always remember being so excited to go home to tell my mum after a full days riding that I had fallen off😂 Also, when I got my first horse, I was the most excited to give her a bath. It’s something I had always wanted to do.

i used to ride and be obsessed w horses even tho i wasn't from an equestrian family, bc all my friends in my village primary school were super horsey and had their own ponies from birth like you said! i'm disabled now and use a wheelchair most of the time so i can't ride, but listening to ur content is so calming😭lowkey living vicariously thru this channel so thank u girl

I think I usually let go of the reins, unless it’s not that dramatic😂 I do think if I were out hacking and you fell off it’s hard to know if the horse is going to stay or not, some take off. The best thing to do is remain calm and not stress, a clear head makes for rational thinking and you’ll make the right calls.

I was desperate to fall off because I started when I was ten (after my younger sister) and she always laughed at me when falling off ever came up. Until I fell off on the first day of camp. When I got home I was ridiculously happy for someone who fell off on the first day of pony camp. Love your videos Esme you are such an inspiration❤

You are absolutely right about it being in slo-mo when you fall off. My first fall - I was doing a showjumping competition (not anything big at all, just a small competition at my riding school) and i fell off over the 5th jump... i fell backwards and i remember looking at the reins and just thinking that i needed to let go of them. I then toppled off to the side and landed on the floor. I then got back on instantly! Im making it sound so dramatic lol... anyway i was a bit shaky but i managed to finish and everyone was saying "respect!" Lol. Even though i fell off, i won! That just shows that if you fall off, just get back on (probably cant do that in the olympics and registered shows 🤷‍♀️) because its better to just get back on the horse as they say ❤ Just because you fall off doesnt mean you are a bad rider, it just means that you are learning more! ❤❤❤

m Y first trainer was the best! He was rlly funny and had the most well trained/treated horses out there. He used to push me off my horse on purpose so I can hold on (because he knew I could) one time I held on a little too much and the saddle slipped and went upside down! So I was on the horse upside down too😂😂

I live in the U.S and I ride English (hunter/jumper) and one of my friends rides western and doesn’t wear and helmet most the time nothing is scarier to watch than someone at a full gallop around barrels with no helmet on. And it’s just normal for them. A lot of the smaller kids 5-9 wear helmets sometimes but everyone older than that doesn’t wear them. Brands have started making cowboy hats with built in helmets to help the community start wearing helmets because it’s so dangerous! Love your videos!

Back in the 1970s when I was riding I was always told to let go the reins if I fell off. I always feared a stirrup-drag, but never experienced one luckily. I had an experience falling off a rather large stallion and faceplanting only an inch away from a cowpat: That was a very lucky inch lol.

Whenever I fall off I hold on. Just because once I let go and I was nearly stood on my head and I watched the hoof go over my face. The stables that I go to the ponies aren’t like perfect. So I have had a good experience falling off so I’m not worried anymore. Also a question. Did you ever have a time where you fell off every week or day because I had such a big confidence knock and I was to scared to ride even though I was sobbing that I wouldn’t do it I was so terrified. So excited for pt 2 you are amazing ❤😊

We actually changed the stirrup on "my riding school" från the ones with rubber bands on the outside to Acavallo arena alupro, and I think it makes a differnce not only when people fall off but also for support for the leg. The horse i ride privatly also have them and they are super comfy.

I never suggest riding alone. There’s always a chance you will be thrown and there’s a thousand things that can happen if you’re alone. I was in an accident in 2021 when a friend and I were coming home from a trail ride at that time of night when it was starting to get dark. Phoenix spooked at god knows what and I ended up corkscrewing over her right shoulder and slamming my lower back on hard ground. I was in the hospital for a week. Had I been by myself I would have been in a bad situation with a broken back and no way to get my horse home and me to safety. Never ride alone.
