FLW. Magic Man. I’ve toured several of his designed homes and T. West, school in the desert. The description of “Organic Design” is so correct.

Claudia, Yes, it's well documented why he (Wright) choose to build there on the site. Many interesting books are available about Mr. Wright and his journey to become one of (if not the greatest architect ever, especially considering the manner and style of anticedent influences available to him). Basically, the Kaufman family had thought, as the prevailing zeitgeist thinking, that it would be to have placed the home across from the falls as a viewing focal point. Wright thought that integrating the home as a part of the falls would be a much more powerful experience that would engage all one's senses simultaneously. Read the biological material concerning Mr. Wright and his philosophy. It's interesting.

I first heard this story in architecture school and I love it. And I believe it for the most part. But I don't believe he drew the whole house plan plus a section through the building plus an accurate perspective of the building in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Reason is that it would take that long to lay out or project the perspective of this complicated building from known elevations and view point and to connect the dots and draw the underlying drawing to be rendered. And if Wright was the only one drawing then I don't believe it. It would take 3 to 4 hours to lay out the perspective alone, much less render it and then have drawn all the plans and section. I do believe he laid out the concept in plans and section but not too much detail and no perspective unless it was merely a crude sketch of the idea. The perspective shown in the video is not a crude sketch but rather a precise rendering. But let me say this. It is a phenomenal house regardless of how many drawings he had done in that short amount of time. I'm sure he had enough done to blow Mr. Kaufmann away. FLW is in my mind America's greatest architect.

You are right. What Wright drew on that day in less than 2 hours was a large sheet that included drafted sketch plans, elevations, and sections. The drawings of the house in this documentary are not from the drawing Wright did on that day but of later finished drawings. The perspective drawing of Fallingwater came later.

And he also took Mr. Kaufman to lunch first, giving two of his apprentices time to put the finishing touches on the first set of plans. But the fanciful story sounds better. :-)

I agree. He probably did some sketches in his private study in the days before. And then, once the design was memorized, he reproduced it for his students.

Love this man ingenious style. And to Ronald Avery, if one is operating from you normal, it would take 3 to 4 hours. But if you operating from you higher or genius self, it can be done in very little time because it's coming through him, not from him. Would like to see the entire documentary

He had it all in his mind till it was time to draw it. Not many architects has this aptitude but perhaps was also that in that period of time he was experiencing family issues.

Fallingwater design video I'm curious as to why the negative responses (although not many)? Just not liking his design style, not liking him, issues with placement on the site, not liking site choice, wouldn't want to live in it etc. Any thoughts?

Does any body knows what was the purpose behind the design of mrs. Wright falling water? ?
@felicity3kX9 жыл бұрын
+Claudia Herrera Organic architecture. He tried to integrate the building with it's surroundings and nature. He also used "destruction of the box" of course. Not sure if that is what you were asking for!?

Purpose? Can't you see? I'm not downing you for the question but look at it. It's beautiful in design and use. Never saw anything like it before in my life. I'd love to live there! I don't understand why you would ask such a thing? Open your eyes!
