In my insignificant opinion, he tries too hard to be seen as better than he is, and I don’t mean it in a mean way, he wants to impress, and to me it just *comes off* as fake. That’s what I think. 🤷🏼♀️ I’m sure he’s lovely and he’s funny at times , but his “image” shall we say annoys me. Maybe not the right word but I can’t think of a better one. Just reminds me a lot of an old friend of mine.

I watched his special that included drums and didn't like it that much. Just wasn't for me. But I thought this was really cool and creative and if Fred didn't include that talking over here and dove in with some actual more polished lyrics, it would have been funnier. Like, do a spoof on the dumb lyrics in punk too. Like the part where he talks about the parents in the ska song was funny. Lean into that more. But I'm not a professional comedian, these are only subjective opinions of what I find funny.

I was about to claim the exact opposite. I was excited to see this video but he missed dozens of famous styles, particularly in the 70s and 80s. Obviously, he was to think about time, but even the styles he played weren't great representations of the actual styles.

The sign of a great host is when you don't have to be the center of attention and you let the guest shine. In this case Fred really could have shone brightly, unfortunately the host could not share the spotlight. Pains me to think how long it took Fred to think up that bit, only to have it sabotaged. (Although, they worked together for so many years Fred had to know that Jimmy would incert himself into the bit any chance he got)

Damn I hated rancid so much when they started since I was an operation ivy fan. They were playing with one of my favorite bands of that time, avail, so I went and they weren’t bad. I ran into them while they were getting stuff out of their van (yes van, they were still very small back then) and told them I caught their show a few weeks ago with avail, they apologized for show shitty they sounded during the show and gave me a tape and shirt, I thought that was pretty cool of them. Rancid, let’s go, and some of out come the wolves were good but they started to really go downhill after that unfortunately.

Fred's bit is delicate, esoteric, respects & trusts the audience's intelligence, doesn't instruct them how to feel or react, elegant, risky, and assured. It's everything Jimmy Fallon and his Tonight Show are not. This was like watching Fred good-naturedly try to light a birthday candle at the bottom of a swimming pool.

he’s not, that’s part of Fred’s shtick. They try and talk at the same time, they did it the whole interview, especially with the punk music bit. Go back years and they do the same thing every time, even on other shows he does it. He had a reoccurring SNL skit with Kristen Wiig where they would try and sing songs at the same time in that exact way.

yea totally, so many deep cuts here…like……The Ramones. And the way he is able to…strum…..power chords….in standard tuning…that are distinct to each era….I mean, wow what a talent! The experience of listening to Fred shred through punk/alt music history…was like being transported back to….the supermarket where I was food shopping last Tuesday. Amazing stuff! It was also really cool to see Jimmy so invested in Fred’s punk rock medley. It’s so rare to see Jimmy impressed, as he can be a tough critic! Very cool!

A musician is someone who "plays an instrument and often gets paid for it", both of which define Fred Armisen. It says nothing about the quality of musicianship based on whatever criteria you are using. He's no Dave Grohl, but he's still a musician and comedian. Whether or not he fits your personal standards is a whole other thing. "People like me" love music and comedy, he loves music and comedy, I love what he does. If I was asking him to repair my car, then I would have the same chip on my shoulder that you seem to have about labels. He's an entertainer. That's it. You are WAY overreacting to this. I think my life would be pretty depressing if my tastes had to be dictated by "people like you."
