So the bombs fell on Saturday, October 23, 2077 which set in place all the Fallout games, including the TV series. The TV series in comparison is set in 2296 just over 219 years after the Bombs fell depicting during the intro to the first epiosde. 17:42 I loved this whole timeline. Shady Sands was originally a small adobe settlement featured in Fallout (1997). It was located east of Vault 13, the starting point and home of the main character, known simply as the Vault Dweller. Set in 2161, Shady Sands was inhabited by descendants of Vault Dwellers from Vault 15, situated to the east. Its leader, Aradesh, was only a child when the Vault 15 inhabitants left and founded Shady Sands, decade later he became the Leader. In Fallout 2, set in 2241, 80 years after the first game, Shady Sands had grown into a major city and became the capital of the New California Republic (NCR), marking the first appearance of this faction in the series. Its president, Tandi, was the daughter of Aradesh, who had been the leader of Shady Sands in the first game. Interestingly, in Fallout (1997) there's a mission where we have to save Tandi from a group of raiders, decades later she would then rose to become one of the most influential leaders in the NCR and would be an old woman by the time we meet her again in Fallout 2. Fun fact: her father, Aradesh, served as the first president of the NCR when it was founded around 20/30 years after the events of the first game. Fallout 3 (2008), set in 2277, takes place 200 years after the Great War and is located on the East Coast in the Capital Wasteland, the former Washington, D.C. area. Because of the distance and focus on a completely different region, there’s no mention of Shady Sands. However, Fallout: New Vegas (2010), set a few years later in 2281, about 60 years after Fallout 2 (1998), is located in the Mojave Desert. This game includes several references to the events of Fallout 2, while the events of Fallout (1997) are treated as more of a legend, given that they occurred roughly 120 years earlier. By this time, Shady Sands was still thriving as the capital of the New California Republic (NCR). By 2272, the NCR had expanded its influence into Nevada, securing control of Hoover Dam with its army. The NCR remained in the Mojave, locked in a fierce struggle with Caesar's Legion, a brutal faction of slavers composed of conquered tribes and inspired by the Roman Empire. The Legion sought to expand westward and claim the Mojave for themselves, directly challenging the NCR’s dominance in the region. In 2277, the Legion launched a major assault on Hoover Dam but was ultimately pushed back to the eastern side of the Colorado River. They remained there until 2281, the setting of Fallout: New Vegas (2010). Some players speculate about the "Fall of Shady Sands" mentioned in the timeline, interpreted as the city being destroyed in a bombing in 2277. However, I interpret "fall" to mean a decline, not outright destruction. Since Shady Sands is still mentioned in New Vegas like t's still around, set in 2281. Also the arrow points to the bomb AFTER 2077 so they don't give a solid date all we know is that Shady Sands was destroyed sometime after 2077, thus sometime after 2281 with the events of New Vegas. That's the history of Shady Sands summed up from past games, mostly Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 since that's the only appearances of the location.

I disagree about it just being "decline", the ONLY thing that makes me think the bombing when Maximus was a kid led to more than just a decline is one line from Fallout: New Vegas and it is when The Courier is in Freeside and takes the NCR Citizenship Test to get some free Tatos(or whatever) and one of the questions is "What was the original name of the NCR Capital - Aradesh, Shady Sands, The Boneyard, or Vault 13?" with the answer of course being "Shady Sands"....Which leads me to think that even if there was a decline it had lead to the capital being moved between 2277 and 2281....Now obviously could be wrong or putting too much thought on one line from FNV and it was in fact just a decline as opposed to an outright changing of capital cities but that sngle line does give me pause....I also understand sometimes things get lost/forgotten when transfered from one form of media to a show/movie but the showmakers took so much time to consault with Bethesda that I think the "Fall of Shady Sands 2277" was meant to mean that Shady Sands is no more....

Yeah, it's a little convoluted, but the initial bombs did in fact occur over 200 years ago. The Shady Sands bombing happened much later in the year 2283 when both Maximus and Lucy were children. It's worth noting though that it's very possible that Maximus genuinely believes that the bombing he survived WAS the bombing from the Great War, because he may have been taught this in the Brotherhood of Steel, which is a essentially a cult.

That's a good point about Max. I definitely feel like the show is trying to confuse us with the timeline. I think I've made a similar comment elsewhere but in my mind, there's nothing left to destroy after the bombs dropped at the beginning of the show, so why bother doing it again? It also hadn't occurred to me that the people pushing the button would be safely underground...

@andelain Something pretty cool, I actually live only about a half hour away from the old Wendover Airfield in Utah where the Brotherhood of Steel scenes were filmed for the show. In real life, that is the airfield where the flight crew that dropped the first atomic bomb in Hiroshima was based and trained during World War 2. That's so thematically appropriate to the show that it's ridiculous.

@LockeDemosthenes2 I originally thought the same thing about "The fall of Shady Sands" being a decline as opposed to Shady Sands no longer being around, but about a month after watching the show for the third time I started replaying Fallout: New Vegas and I was taking the NCR Citizenship Test in Freeside and one of the questions was something like "What was the original name of the capital of the NCR? - Aradesh, Shady Sands, The Boneyard, or Vault 13?" with the answer of course being Shady Sands....So that one question made me think it was a case of the capital being relocated because it was bombed in 2277 as the Chalkboard says....Now I completly understand I could be putting too stock much into one line and be completely wrong....I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well....

The music that played, when Lucy lifted that flag is iconic, It's the same music that plays, every time you start the Fallout 4 game.

The bombs dropped in 2077 during the birthday party. Shady Sands was founded sixty-five years later in 2142. It flourished as The New California Republic for 135 years, and fell in 2277. It was destroyed, leaving a huge crater. Maximus survived by hiding in a refrigerator, and was rescued by the Brotherhood of Steel. Others made there way to Vault IV where they still fly the NCR flag and study Shady Sands history... oh, and they worship Lee Moldaver, the Flame Mother. What's so confusing about that?? 😆😆

31/32/33 is the first time I’ve seen 3 vaults joined. I’ve only seen 2 vaults joined a couple times in the games. Generally, they’re solo, and not in any regular communication.

Of note; a poster for Cooper's film "A Man and His Dog" is a nod to the 1975 post apocalyptic film "A Boy and His Dog" of which the Fallout games borrowed heavily from 🤟😎

Also - most vaults are stand-alone affairs. The three connected vaults are unique to the tv show.

the civil but impassioned dispute between that couple is one of the realest best most interesting scenes in a recent thing that's not Shogun

Did you notice how Barb (Cooper's wife) deflected the vault argument first at the hot tub then at the dinner table?

Love your shirt, Ande. I have a selection of shirts with the same type of attitude (or worse) 😁😉. Your confusion is absolutely normal. Most first-time viewers (including myself) were just as confused. But hang in there because things will start coming together and making sense. Great reaction! Thank you, darlin'! 🤗

After rewatching the video I did want to say that if you look at the chalkboard in the classroom where Lucy is, the timeline depiction drawn on the board is canonically accurate to the game/show....Have a good day/night....

The "President" of the "Government" is a fat man, in a white suit, with a white bowtie, that goes by the name Sorrel Booker. Here in the US, between 1979 and 1985, there was a TV show called, "The Dukes of Hazzard". In the show Boss Hogg was the crooked head of Hazzard County, who was always trying to make a dollar and lock the Duke boys in jail. He was a fat man, in a white suit, with a white bowtie. Boss Hogg was portrayed by an actor named, Sorrell Booke. One of the little inside jokes they hid in the show.

Barb- "Let the gaslighting begin" Cooper "what?" Many of your questions will be answered. The Pip-boys do not do anything to you, they are a tool that contains, maps, a flashlight, and a bio monitor amongst other things and are part of the vaults security system like your door key. Coopers car is an actual classic car from the 50s-60s. IMO the Shady Sands memorial may be purely symbolic not actual ashes or blood. (Like communion in Catholic church Those tubes are Cryo-genic suspension tubes. As you go onto next episode remember this episodes title is "The Trap" but who is it referring to? Max?, Lucy?, The Ghoul?, Cooper? or maybe perhaps YOU the viewer. Vault four is as explained in the commercial, is for the study of the effects of radiation on human DNA.

Hollywood Forever is an actual cemetery on the same city block as Paramount Studios. The studios were built on an unused back portion of the original cemetery property. Many Hollywood notables and other celebrities are buried there or have their ashes interred there or have cenotaphs there, from early stars like Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. and Jr. and Rudolph Valentino to more recent losses such as Anne Heche and Chris Cornell. I thought it a bit odd that they were allowed to film there.

Petty much all the questions you asked will be answered. I have been a fan of the game series since the first one in '97. I REALLY don't want to say too much here. No spoilers at all from here.. I'm still loving someone watch the universe that some lunatics created that is the world Fallout.

I do have to agree with your end of episode sound of disappointment :) This series is the best I have seen MSM come up with for a while. I just hope they don't screw it up. For now the power of what I think of as the two leads, Lucy and Cooper, can carry a bit of a falter but no complete dive in to the Woke swimming pool we've had to choke on in recent years. By the way, if you have not seen The Tomorrow War, that's another really good one. I have heard they are finally going to get their act together and do a sequel ... again I hope they don't screw it up!
