The enclave were the reminates of the US government and on the west coast they were pretty much wiped out in fallout 2(with only scattered reminates left) and on the east coast they were wiped out in fallout 3. I honestly still don't know how they showed up in this show as a major faction. However one of the writers for Vegas has said Todd Howard has a thing for the enclave (and the brotherhood) and implied they had to fight to keep them from being a major faction in New Vegas.(New Vegas takes place after 2 and 3 and about 15 years before this show). As someone who has played the games i honestly think Bethesda is using this show to bring down the level of civilization on the west coast to make it closer to the east coast that is stuck in an eternal post apocalypse. Before this show the west coast(which had been written by companies besides Bethesda) had actual nations, massive merchant companies, ranchers, some industry, and even working trains. It's level of civilization could be compared to the late 18 or very early 1900s. Somehow all of that appears to have vanished in the 15 years between Vegas and this show.

The Enclave were big villains in the Fallout games other than Fallout 4. The quick summary is that they're the descendants/remnants of the US government and they have their own plans which are usually terrible for everyone else.
@RocketSurgn_
@RocketSurgn_ 5 ай бұрын
Also, they horde tech/have higher tech than anyone else, but in a different way/for different reasons. Since they’re remnants (of a shadow splinter government specifically) that had some time to prep before the bombs fell, they stockpiled weapons and tech and had some advanced bunkers intact and operating since the bombs. If you remember the X-01 armor that Fallout 4 had or you’ve see pictures from the other games or elsewhere of power armor that looks much more advanced with much smoother curves and sort of bug-eyed helmets, that’s experimental power armor (thus the X) and it’s usually the Enclave since they were the only ones able to stockpile the limited numbers pre war. At least for a while in the games, not sure if the more recent lore has officially said anybody else had it without taking it from Enclave.

@@RocketSurgn_the X-01 isn’t the enclave armor, the enclave armor is the X-02, the x-01 was released in limited quantities to civilian contractors in Boston and the surrounding cities, like construction crews, according to a terminal you can find on a wrecked train with a suit of X-01, so it makes sense that you could find it out in the wild in the commonwealth.

@@1C3CR34M Hmm, do you know where that wreck is? I didn’t remember any entries like that (it has been a while since I played 4 though) and couldn’t find any reference to guaranteed X01 armors that have a terminal like that. It might have been a set scaled to your level that ended up x-01 with a terminal taking about more basic power armor types, since there is at least some civilian power armor. As far as I can find, the only mention of X01 power armor outside government, though, is the single set given to Nuka Cola from the Nuka World dlc.
@RocketSurgn_
@RocketSurgn_ 4 ай бұрын
@@1C3CR34M Ah, the X-02 armor was Creation Club content (so wasn’t really “canon”) until it was added in the Next Gen patch, which I didn’t realize! Haven’t had the chance to play since the update. That said, the X-02’s own lore from the terminals it’s found near specifically say it’s a more advanced version of the main Enclave power armor, that was still a prototype/not ready for full production but used in limited numbers by a special ops unit. So it isn’t the overall Enclave Power Armor they’ve been using since Fallout 2, just a limited run “elite” version. There isn’t a “perfect canon answer” since the Fallout cannon isn’t… super consistent but X-01 fills the same niche as the Advanced Power Armor used broadly by the Enclave in Fallout 2 and New Vegas. It’s probably intended to be a prototype version of the armor eventually used by the Enclave (so sort of true that X-01 isn’t exactly “the enclave armor” in the same way the YF-22 prototype isn’t exactly the same as the production F-22) but since I think she’s only played Fallout 4 it’s as close as you get. The main Fallout 3 “Enclave Power Armor” is described as Advanced Power Armor MK2 (which also existed in Fallout 2/west coast Enclave alongside the main version), but that can’t be the X-02 since the terminal logs say it was one of “only a handful” when the Fallout 3 Enclave leader was killed.

Interestingly enough this series takes place in California, which is where Fallout 1 and 2 took place. The Enclave featured most prominently in Fallout 2 and 3. They were essentially the rich elite of the government that had their own Vault to hide in. The President of the United States and the descendants of soldiers, scientists, and senators became the Enclave. They're also responsible for creating the Forced Evolutionary Virus (FEV) which created several of the Super Mutants and other mutated creatures like Centuars. They also had a hand in creating some of the Deathclaws and experimented on them. Some of them were even intelligent enough to speak, like Gorris in Fallout 2. They even experimented on their own men, creating a Super Mutant/ human hybrid in Enclave Power Armor, named Frank Horrigan, also in Fallout 2. Nowadays they're a remnant of what they once were, suffering crippling blows in Fallout 2 and 3. While some remain, they're no longer as much of a threat.

I've seen multiple reactors say "Jump in the pool!" but in the unlikely event you're in that situation DO NOT DO THIS. That pressure wave would have likely shredded their internal organs if they jumped in.

@@lfcmike12 In order for something to dissipate force, it has to be able to absorb kinetic energy and store it as potential energy. This is usually achieved through compression, like spring suspension systems in cars. However, water is practically incompressible. You know how bottles of water explode when you put them in the freezer? That's because water doesn't like being confined under pressure. If you try to pressurise water, the water will crash through everything in its path to avoid that. This is the principle on which all hydraulic systems are based, by the way. Even something as simple as the tap in your home, the reason it shoots water is because there is hydrostatic pressure on the other side, pushing the water out.

39:55 Non-spoiler Enclave information: The Enclave is the name of what basically amounts to a lineage of former politicians, many specifically important scientists and high-level paramilitary personnel, and some associated corporate figures. Think of "The Enclave" in the same way you think of "the deep state" - as movers and shakers behind the curtain. So through the games you'll often hear of them referenced in the same way you heard here in the show, like some mythological pseudo-government group doing things that nobody around actually has any verification for, lol. About fallout shelters, there's a really great documentary called "The Atomic Café" that's available on KZbin and consists entirely of old archive footage from the 50s and 60s, when the culture of nuclear war preparedness was its peak. In one bit, they point out how the fallout shelters that were popular in the U.S. back then would be pretty useless against a nuclear blast; they wouldn't have been strong enough to protect from the resulting firestorm, and similar shelters that were around in Japan and Germany during WWII and hit with weaker bombs were known to fail and kill the residents through suffocation and incineration

So, I watched this video about growing food post explosion. Radiation doesn't really penetrate the ground much, so supposedly all you have to really do in order to do it safely is remove several inches of topsoil and plant in that. The problem is that other radioactive dust travels, so it will blow right into your safe space. You need an enclosure, a fence at least. The better you can build this enclosure the better. I wouldn't even know what to recommend about a roof or ventilation. Anyway if vaults ever become a real thing I hope they build their own internet. I need content.

The surely did, as did the actual creators of the Fallout universe, which is why in the original games the vaults were supposed to house like 1000 people. I do find it a bit odd that people rarely mention Fallout 1 or 2 as for me they were the first Fallout games I played way before Bethesda even owned the IP, but it's not really surprising that Bethesda would focus their marketing on the games they actually made. it's not like Bethesda was known for bad games either, since my first Bethesda game was Morrowind and that still holds up, if you don't mind the graphics. Fallout 1 and 2 are pre-rendered and isometric, so their graphics look decent even today, but the turn-based tactics and the user interface will be somewhat challenging for people used to the newer games. the thing about New Vegas is that it was made by Obsidian Entertainment, which was founded by people from Black Isle Studios, which was the studio that made the first two Fallout games as well as other certified classics. while some of the people, who actually worked on the original Fallout games were part of the studio, the project lead was Josh Sawyer, who is just a lovely guy in general, and he had not worked on Fallout 1 or 2 during his time at Black Isle Studios, unless you count their version of Fallout 3 that was cancelled, but New Vegas is not based on that. anyway the idea sort of goes that New Vegas is at least spiritually more in line with the original two Fallout games, while using the engine and some assets from Fallout 3, which was a bit more straightforward and simple in the way Oblivion had been (compare that with some of the writing in Morrowind that bordered on pure insanity). if anyone has heard of Pentiment, it is the latest game Josh Sawyer directed and that's another excellent game.

@@CynReactions to be fair all of the games are pretty much independent stories set in the same world with the slight exception that the protagonist of Fallout 2 is the descendant of the protagonist of Fallout 1, but other than that there isn't much overlap in the actual story, unless you count random references or the general lore. when it comes to tone, I would say that the first two games are a tiny bit darker or bleaker in my opinion, although the same humor is definitey still there. the first two games (and the TV show) are set around the same area in Southern California, but Fallout 3 is set in DC, New Vegas in Vegas obviously, Fallout 4 in Boston and Fallout 76 in West Virginia, so that alone sets them apart and they are also set in different time periods (2161, 2241, 2277, 2287 for Fallout 1-4, 2281 for New Vegas, 2102 for 76 and finally 2296 for the TV show with the nuclear war that precedes the post-apocalypse happening in 2077). for similarities between them as an example most of the games start from a vault (exceptions being Fallout 2 and New Vegas) and the games usually start with a simple quest (find a new water chip, find the G.E.C.K., find your dad, find out who shot you, find your kid), which leads you to stumble upon something a lot more significant. the first two games do set up some of the lore that the later games use, but I think you can still run into explanations of the lore in the later games, albeit there can be differences due to the story evolving. nevertheless the basic ideas about the Vaults, ghouls, advanced technology, wild and wacky stuff happening in the Wasteland, different factions (e.g. BoS, the Enclave), several enemy types (e.g. Super Mutants, Deathclaw), many items (e.g. stimpaks, power armor) and even Dogmeat as a companion among other things are already there in the original games. I've read through some old-school let's plays (with screenshots and text) of the games, but nowadays it's easier to just watch a KZbin video of someone explaining the lore or even read it from a wiki. those can't quite capture the different paths you could take through the games, but New Vegas should give a good idea of what that's like anyway.

Some Vaults opened very soon after the Great War. Except for some heavily bombed zones, the levels of radiation didn't stay super high for as long as they thought.

My thoughts: I'd expect the geiger counter to be active in the background even if the pipboy is in standby mode. Hell, I'd think that there'd be a geiger counter outside of the vault door allowing them to check for rad levels even before opening the door. In all this time, this was the first time that a member of a BoS was jealous enough to put a razor into someone's shoe? No slipping into shoes without prior assessment.

I know most people seem to dig New Vegas as the uber-Fallout, but I wasn't that sold. Sold, yes, but not as much as everyone else. To me, it felt too "populated". The empty feeling of Fallout 3 was gone, that sense of everything having been destroyed, right down to the skeletons in the toilets. Nothing seemed quite as derelict, and there were humans everywhere that were not immediately trying to kill me. I even questioned the choice of locale. Why did we go back to a place we'd already been in the series (the southwest). They could have gone with Northeast (as they did in 4), or like Florida, Texas, maybe? Louisiana/New Orleans? Get out of town, that would have been cool (or even the Gulf states in general, but New Orleans would have smoked). Whoa, this just occurred to me: what about a total left turn and do something in Canada? Instead, they played softball and went with something familiar rather than take a risk. But I digress. Fallout 3 was fantastic, partly because it was fresh and new for the series, but also because it was bleak as shit. The comedy mixed with the existential horror really did it for me. New Vegas was good, but lacked that feeling. At times, it even felt like a typical RPG wearing a Fallout skin. Eh, I've ranted long enough and probably made a host of enemies, so toodles!

Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). PLAY NEW VEGAS! There is a mod so you can play it with Fallout 4, "A Tale of Two Wastelands".

Great reaction to this show. As a Fallout fan myself, I am so glad that it appears that they have knocked it out of the park. Every tiny detail seems to have been a thing. From Nuka Cola to the stim packs to outfits and weapons, it makes ya want to play a Fallout game again. I really liked your reaction to this, it reminded me of watching for the first time myself.

You should absolutely play New Vegas! Also, don't jump in a pool to avoid a shockwave from a bomb. Water carries energy much more effectively than air and is much denser. At best, you will go deaf. At worst, your skull will implode.

Biggest difference between F3 and NV is that in F3, you encounter side stories in your travels, and they’re mostly self-contained. In NV, almost every side story ties into the main story in some way- big or small. Especially your companions- they each have their entire own storyline with multiple endings. NV sells the idea that your actions have consequences better than F3 or F4 do, because those games are more “were you naughty or nice?”, whereas NV is more “Your decision sucked for these people, but helped these other people”. That said, F3’s wasteland is a much more compelling environment, it oozes a vibe that NV doesn’t quite get. F4 is kind of its own animal. A great game, but quite streamlined compared to the other two.

I love all the Fallout games, but Fallout 4 is my favorite just for the gameplay alone. Fallout 3 was the first one I played and even though I like the atmosphere/characters/story more with 3 and New Vegas, Fallout 4 is the most fun to play. It's really hard going back to the older ones after playing 4 or 76 lol. You almost forget how clunky they were, but still must-play games.

The Enclave are the remnants of the US Government, formed just before the bombs fell. I would highly suggest playing 1 and 2 (get them from GoG), then 3 and new vegas last, for the full story.

I've seen different estimates about how long you'd have to stay in a bomb shelter after a full-scale nuclear war. Some of it has to do with different levels of radioactive fallout you get with airburst (which is typically how modern nuclear weapons are set to detonate) vs. ground-level detonation (which is what was shown here, and which kicks up more dust and debris to become irradiated), but the answers I've seen appear to range from only a few days to a few years before the worst of it has dissipated. No matter what, waiting CENTURIES is overkill, although it does protect you from the breakdown of government control and civilization. On the other hand, it gives you plenty of time to run insane and immoral experiments on your captive population, which was Vault-Tec's primary goal. One of the more successful Vaults at fulfilling the supposed job of preserving humanity and repopulating post-war America was Vault 8, which opened after 14 years to found Vault City. So vaults like 101 or 33 staying closed seemingly in perpetuity are really just doing so to carry out their experimental requirements. From what I understand, anyway.

Fallout 4 is my favorite. I started out with Fallout: New Vegas, then played Fallout 4. I went back and played Fallout 3. I love all three, but Fallout 4 had a better SPECIAL skill tree, and the settlement concept was intriguing. I also preferred Fallout 4's origin story better, too . . .

The Enclave is what's left of the old US government, the parts of it that survived the bombs dropping and just kept going. Fallout 4 makes the Brotherhood of Steel look like a hyper-militaristic cult of people obsessed with consolidating tech under their own banner in the name of ensuring its proper use, even though in reality it looks like a lot of people who want to control technology for the sake of power. Which is not necessarily incorrect. The Enclave is essentially that too, except in Fallout 3, they make the Brotherhood of Steel look like the good guys. The Enclave is similar to the Brotherhood but with scientific pursuits that could be called questionable if you're feeling particularly charitable. They're prejudiced, power-hungry, want to dominate the world that's left behind, and will do anything to accomplish that goal. I'm oversimplifying it, but that's the general gist.

6:05 Actually, I don't think they are THAT useless. After 48h the radiation goes down by 99%, after all those isotopes with a very short half-life have decayed. After 3 month radioactive iodine is decayed. Sure, you still have to deal with radiation from isotopes with longer half-life (like cesium and strontium) , but depending on how much radiation there was initially in your region, such a fallout shelter can be the difference between life and death.

When it comes to population sizes to avoid inbreeding the MINIMUM you need to minimize the effects of inbreeding is 50 people, to avoid any kind of inbreeding you need a population of atleast 500 unrelated adult individuals- so if we assume at the very least 250 people went into each 32 and 33 then they would be set to avoid inbreeding and would probably have plenty of space aswell as each control vault houses 1000 people, In fact because of the nature of the experiment I would say these vaults probably have even bigger space and more supplies than the average control vault

Fallout 3 mirrors 4 very nicely as both were made by Bethesda. Fallout New Vegas mixed in some of the greatest rpg element ever thanks to Obsidian. 4 went more looter shooter and didn’t really give player choice in comparison. Still great of course, just more for the mass market fps genre.

humor-wise, I think the show relies a little bit too much on a transgressive, juvenile, over-sexed, shock-value randiness. In universe, though, a vault is just a fancy goon cave. So now we're all on the same level as the show.

In short - the Brotherhood is the somewhat splintered remains of the military and they recovered relatively well considering that most of them had died and the military hardware factories had been destroyed. They have an odd ideal of paladin-ship and an overwhelming belief in their cause. The Enclave is basically the remains of the government who had hidden away and survived, and also had their more hidden goals. This is all outlined in Fallout 2, so I don't think it's really a spoiler. If you think I'm wrong, let me know and I'll take it down.

Supposedly, for a lot of the props in the show, Bethesda gave the prop department and visual effects team the actual models in the games to use as templates. Some of them were even 3d printed largely as is (just format conversion). That's why they look so authentic.

it's nice when the series starts with riddles, but without giving us the answers 5 minutes before the end of the pilot episode! and as for the real fallout shelters, the sad and funny truth is that most of them were useless, even the government ones. one of the main reasons were that they were not waterproof. when the moisture penetrating from the outside became radioactive, it is clear what would happen to the survivors..☢️☢️☢️☢️
