I'm pretty sure if you ordered piper to enter the power armour for some reason doesn't count as stealing, unless they patched it but its bethesda we are talking about.

MacCready can steal items right in front of NPCs and not get caught last time I remember, so it's probably like that with all companions

No point taking that power armor actually unless you want everyone allied close to you to turn hostile since it will be viewed as theft whenever you exit and reenter it

​@@jimmybrown3777 they forget to mention that it's the frame you are stealing.(I mean, you ARE stealing the parts too, but Bethesda logic) So if you transfer the parts over to a different frame that you aren't stealing, you are no longer stealing the frame every time you get in and out.

I like to steal BOS power armors and line the castle wall with them facing the airport like some sort of serial killer collecting trophies. I never use them, therefore they never negatively affect any of my companions opinion of me.

you can literally get a free set of t60 power armor after like one or two missions on the prydwen

even simpler way and without risking being caught stealing: when you see a vertibird unloading a patrol, wait until the enemies have killed them and then recover everything.

If you play the game and wonder around you fill find power armor. Plenty. I have about 3 days play time on my latest play through. I have 13 sets of power armor. I never went looking once.
