Rename your weapon to "You're SPECIAL". Exactly like what's in the quotations, including the apostrophe and capitals. If you're still having issues after that than it may have to do with your weapon and you can always try what I had success with. Go buy a basic bat from the baseball vendor in Diamond City Market and try with that. It seems to work for everyone else too. Good luck!

Just a heads up, something about the alphabetical order wasn’t really triggering correctly with “x” or “You’re SPECIAL!”, but renaming it to “Z” so it bumps up one letter to the item starting with “Y” worked perfectly first try. Maybe holding undroppable quest items goofs it up? 🤷‍♂️

Something that will help controller players in the second step is sort of gliding your thumb from the “scrap” button to the “store” button, in a sort of relaxed manner. That’s how I nailed the timing.

I want to add that you need to already have the material you receive from scrapping the weapon in your inventory beforehand. Or it will move the scrap into the table instead of the special book

if you wanna go to unreasonable lvls with this. modifiers to your special stats from consumables/ status effects will allow the special book to raise them up higher. like drinking alcohol. to make an in particular broken character dip into survival mode for a moment and becom starving, tired, and dehydrated. this will really drop most of your special stats. making it to where after your done getting your stats back up most of them will be sitting around 15 baseline if not higher.

Does the game actually register the additional benefit from 11+ specials? i.e. Persuasion checks are even easier with a charisma of 11 or higher?

@@hoytmifflin7679 it sure does. a really fun one is endurance. it reduces the ap cost for sprinting the higher it is so if you get endurance past i think 13 sprinting becomes free.

@@hoytmifflin7679 TLDR it sure does and some neat things can happen with certain special stats at high ranks. endurance- reduces AP cost for sprinting and at 21 end sprinting becomes free intelligence- reduces the number of wrong choices for hacking terminals so if you get that high enough you really only have right answers. agility- improves how good you sneak. and with how broken sneaking is in bethesda games you are pretty much a ghost with that buffed. charisma- you only need an 11 to guaranty passing red speech checks but hey higher char also increases settler max for settlements so if your aiming to make cities out of settlements it's pretty good. edit- so not using chems and before bobble heads just the special book and survival debuffs thirst, hunger, tired, overencumbered your looking at S=14 P=17 E=22 C=15 I-20 A=14 L=18

It seems that the way the naming & scrapping part works is that when the bat (or other weapon) is scrapped, whatever the name is, it goes on the next material up, so when i named the boom Zou're SPECIAL instead of Youre it worked as the book was the next up in line.

I am playing on the Xbox series X. And I can confirm that it works. It took me about 50 tries each but it finally worked. The first part when you’re at the weapons workbench in order for that book to appear you need to have the required crafting materials in your inventory not just the weapon and the special book but the crafting materials that is required to make that Modded weapon in the first place. So have your special book and the modded weapon and the crafting materials that made that modded weapon. Hope this helps. I was doing this but naked like everyone else but I read the comment section and someone did it this way so yes it works. It will take time but once you do the glitch once it’s pretty much easy work after that you just keep doing the last part over and over. Whoever made this video thank you and I am now a subscriber.

I’m trying to do this now on Series X. I get through the weapon mod step, and I’m able to scrap/store the book. The problem is that when I pull the book out of inventory and drop it, I don’t get the “select a stat to increase” prompt again. Any idea what’s going on?

Every time I get to that screen for scrapping the item and have the mod slots in the background it just backs me out of the crafting and doesn't put your special in that spot after I select scrap

Awesome video-worked perfectly in the end and really appreciate the detailed explanation! At first I couldn't get the book to show the highlighted mods and thought my updated version (newer one than the one in this video) had fixed it-but thought with the age of the game now surely they wouldn't be fixing things like this when its still a little glitchy at times (new players make sure you save regularly as it can crash here and there!). Tried again and it worked which was a little odd but wasn't complaining lol. The only non-smooth part in all this is when you're trying to do the quick 'scrap/store' button move but if you miss it cancel back a step and try again as on the second or third attempt it will work (still working as of 050624). Just make sure you hit scrap & store almost at the same time, but make sure you continue to hold down the store button as you release the scrap button. A couple of times I let go of the store button and THEN pressed scrap which meant it didn't work-so remember to keep the store button held down, then press scrap and THEN you can let go of the store button to answer 'Yes' when it asks if you want to store the book in the Workshop. Rinse/repeat and you're Data & The Terminator all in one lol

For the last step it's easier to time you X button presses before your B. Like start out with a slow paced X then press/hold B. Your more likely to screw up the X then the holding B. This is how I began to perfect it

Oh you mean for scrap / store? By far the most common problem for people is they press / hold the store option to quickly. I guess even despite if I say not to do it as quick as possible, their natural reaction to doing a glitch like this is to go as fact as they can or just really fast in general. This is a tad more methodical than that though and imo, in turn easier to get really consistent at.

Anybody have a problems With the second part of the glitch? When you hit the scrap and then store a lot of times the store menu will pop up first even though you hit scrap first. I think you need to hit scrap first let it register and then hit store and hold store down like a split second you can’t do it too fast. I was doing it really fast and I was always hitting scrap first but the store menu kept popping up first. Hope that helps people.

Yeah I tried my best to explain in the video to not do it immediately and rather give it a bit longer to register scrap. If someone is also having the store option pop up, they're simply doing it a bit too fast is all. Clicking store I mean. So if that wait just a tad longer, they'll definitely get it.

So after an hour of fiddling I finally got it to work. Tried every letter of the alphabet in lowercase, XY & Z uppercase, along with a bunch of random symbols & numbers with the 10mm pistol. I tried naming it You're, youre special, You're SPECIAL!, youre, & a few other variations. Absolutely nothing worked, I kept getting other undroppable items from my inventory. Then I started experimenting with different weapons. I noticed that I was getting different items with other weapons. The combo of using knuckles & a lower case x eventually got the glitch to work as intended. I'd recommend if youre doing this with a save that youve put some time into, dont try every letter of the damn alphabet. Do XY & Z in upper & lowercase, maybe try You're SPECIAL! & If none of those work, for the love of god, try a different weapon.

LMAO, I tip you doing the whole alphabet. It doesn't make sense for the glitch to work with the majority of letters, but obviously not everyone knows the ins and outs of how/why this stuff works. Given that, I can understand you trying so much. As much as the name can come into play, the weapon you use seems to be able to do the same. I'm glad you found what works for you. Enjoy!

Yeah it seems that renaming it to "x" is causing that exact issue for some. Those in such a case should rename it to what the special book is called and that should fix it.

@@devtekve1396 Someone else in Spanish said they put the emoji of the cool face with sunglasses or whatever and it worked. You can try that. Outside of that, this is what I tell people to try. "You're SPECIAL" , "X" , "Y" , "Z". You can try lowercase of those letters too.

For the last part, it helps if you visualize the scrap and store buttons as pistons moving up and down. Try to press the O button as soon as you release the square button. Not in a fast way but more methodical. It’s also way easier if you use two fingers. Hope this helps someone

Quick comment for everyone: Empty your inventory as much as you can for this except whatever scrap you would receive for scrapping the weapon in question; if its a bat then wood, shot gun then steel and wood. Now, I found naming the gun ‘x’ and doing this with the scrap in my inventory as others said just made whatever Aid items I had show up like wine for example, when depositing all these then the game would just force exit the work bench. I had to name the gun “You’re SPECIAL!” as others have suggested otherwise it didn’t work. I think based on your platform you’ll have mixed results.

An update for Xbox One. It *does* still work. It took me a good bit of trying, but after renaming my weapon to "You're SPECIAL!" I got it to work. Remember, while both Scrap and Modify are pressed roughly at the same time, technicially Modify is pressed first, and then Scrap. After I got the book modded, the duplication glitch came easily enough.

Still works as of July 2024. I was frustrated at first as it wasn't working and kept bringing up anything else wxcept the special book. I put all my belongings in a container that i was able to drop and i personally used knuckles as the weapon. I just keep renaming it different things until the book popped up. In my case naming the weapon to Z worked and i was able to max all stats to 10 at level 6.

I did this a year ago, and I saved step-by-step on the PS4 version All I did was load a transfer save when I had the stats & after I duplicated the resources to make a ton of Molotovs got to level 50 before I even left sanctuary

You can use the book to push stats above 10 if you have something reducing your stats. For example, drink a beer then up int. After the beer fades the bonus will still apply bringing you to 11. Bigger stat reduction mean bigger max stats. (May be wrong on that, but, with bobbles and your special you can get a stat to 12, with unlimited your special you should get higher if you can lower your stats. I recommend survival difficulty for easy stat nerfs.)

Working on xbox series s. I started a fresh save. I have "visuals" selected instead of performance because i read that has something to do with it not working. I used the 10mm pistol from the overseers office. I renamed it to "x". I didn't remove any weapons from my inventory, and it worked fine. 5/30/24

The conveyor belt dupe takes ages, you need to grab the book right before it goes into the storage But It does start to get fast once you have five books and the conveyor belt and storage is in a loop

@@dillydo923 Try clearing your inventory of everything you don't need for the glitch. Additionally, have at least 1 of any resources in your inventory that the weapon your scrapping will turn into. So if your weapon would break down into wood and steel, have at least 1 of each of those in your inventory when attempting that part of the glitch. Multiple have said this helped them so hopefully it helps you too. As for what you rename your weapon, call it "You're SPECIAL" if "x" doesn't work.

Yes, my book was also already picked up and in turn used as you can see in the video. The glitch being done essentially dupes a new copy of the item and so will give you a point each time.

This was extremely useful for me. Tips for other people: 1. Demon Asylum has commented that removing everything from inventory except for what you need and the resource you will get for scrapping, this has helped me immensely. 2. So i had trouble with this but i ended up figuring out where i was having trouble. Tutorial is great but just some advice so it works everytime for everyone. The weapon has to come before the You're SPECIAL! alphabetically in your MAIN inventory list. This is the list of every item you are currently holding and the best way to see your full inventory list is when you hit transfer on any container. It is the first inventory list that comes up for your character. Rename your weapon and drop any other item so that the weapon youll be using and the You're SPECIAL! book are right next to each other on the list. Everthing else is perfectly lined out in the video

i figured it out. If only the scrap option pops up you’re too slow, if only store option pops up you’re too fast. Im on ps5 so I literally dragged my thumb across square to circle quickly (almost in one motion) and it worked for me. Just gotta time it right tho and keep holding down on circle once both boxes on the screen pop up. With another finger press yes to scrap and yes to store. Once i figured it out i maxed out in like 3 minutes of repeating this cycle. Hope it makes it easier for someone later. Also make sure to quick save after every successful attempt just incase you accidentally scrap the book like i did sometimes. Just so you dont have to redo it all over again.

Sure! No need to do all of the SPECIAL stat boosting at once if you don’t want to. The first part of the glitch which modifies the book will stick and never have to be done again. The second part that actually makes the new books can be done any time after.

When I go to disassemble the gun, it stays the same, but the gun just disappears and the book doesn't appear Edit:I changed the lyrics and ended up getting a cup, so I'll have to test several lyrics Edit 2:I understood how it works, I had to use a pool cue because it was a good weapon that I could level, after that you have to leave the book you are special as the highest initial, no items that start with the letter Y ,X,W,Z except the book, and if it doesn't work try leaving the weapon with the following letters:x, y, Y, and X

Sooo what has worked for me, being on PS5: is suuper precise timing. From my trial and error it has been pressing X, Square and O in decently timed succession. I think X and Square do the same thing as the material duplication glitch but “O” in this glitch case keeps the whole thing where you can comfortably press “X” and get that juicy lil S.P.E.C.I.A.L point.

I tried this with only the weapon and the magazine in my inventory, yet somehow the pip boy moddifier appears when performing the trick (I'm using a pip boy skin mod on pc)

Yeah this happens for some people. The fix has been trying it with a different weapon. Most find success with a basic melee weapon. As you saw in the video, a basic bat from the baseball vendor in Diamond City Market worked for me. That's what I would recommend trying as it seems to work for everyone else too. Make sure you name it "You're SPECIAL" as well.

I can’t get it to loop more than once. I know the method I’ve cloned thousands of items but this is confusing me. I get past the modification of the book, I get one point, then do scrap/store and when I get the modded book back it won’t let me gain more points? What am I doing wrong?

Only thing that would logically make sense to me for such a situation is that you're not getting the second part 100% correct. Getting the scrap and store options up at the same time, choosing scrap while having those 2 options up at the same time, and then choosing store after that. It should break down the copy of the book you have and then generate a new one.

guys if it doesn’t work with the switch blade you need to name it “You’re SPECIAL!” (to do the glitch super earlier on get your strength to 4 then blacksmith to 1, next go to robotics disposal ground and do the glitch there)

Clearing your inventory of anything you don't need for the glitch and then renaming to something like You're SPECIAL is usually enough to get it to work for those that are struggling. No need to go elsewhere for instance though.

Interestingly you can also use this technique to double your Junk resources. As long as you hay a stack of 6 or more the resource you can double it. Useful for stuff like Aluminium early game for base defence, armour upgrades etc.

That won't duplicate the book in the sense of having more than 1 copy at any given time so unfortunately not. You have to just do it one at a time. However you only have to do the first (and imo harder) part once. After that it's just the scrap/store part with the book and once get that down which doesn't take long, you can zoom through maxing your stats out. Took me 10 minutes maybe.

Yeah that works for some as they have some items closer to the name of the book versus what they name their weapon. If they name the weapon "You're SPECIAL", exactly like that though than they should be good.

For PC players, this glitch is conflicting (at least) with the "Workshop Framework" mod (and the Sims Settlement 2 mod that uses it). So, you can disable this mod and use the glitch but it will break the mod and you can't use it anymore. Or you want to use the mod and you can't use this glitch... But it seems you can't have both.

@@DemonAsylum As I explained in an other message, I tried your trick with those mods active. I passed every step (scrap /modify knuckes ; scrap/store the You're special book) but, when I picked up the book back, nothing happened (it did not propose me to pump up a stat). Then I disabled my mods and retried and it worked perfectly well. I pumped up all my stats. But when I reenabled my mods, there was a screen telling me that "Workshop Framework" mod had been overwritten and was broken and that it was safer not to use that save anymore. I tried to go on playing anyway, but I could not get the required special "Plots" in Sim Settlements 2 anymore. I came back to my previous save before disabling the mods and using the glitch. And now the mod works perfectly fine again but I can't change my Special stats...

@@DemonAsylum I think that it is because this mod controls the Workbench... However and quite weirdly, duplicating materials (such as steel) is still working with this mod. It is really the "You're Special" trick that is neutralized. Weird!

Sobald du es gelagert hast (indem du den einen Knopf drückst und den anderen gedrückt hälst) nimmst du es wieder raus, dropst es und sammelst es wieder ein. Dabei kannst du einen Skillpunkt erhalten. Dann dropst du es wieder und lagerst es mit im Video genannter Methode wieder. Das Buch ist immer das selbe, aber du machst es damit quasi immer wieder benutzbar.

Many including myself, yes. Try clearing your inventory of everything you don't need for the glitch. Additionally, have at least 1 of any resources in your inventory that the weapon your scrapping will turn into. So if your weapon would break down into wood and steel, have at least 1 of each of those in your inventory when attempting that part of the glitch. Multiple have said this helped them so hopefully it helps you too. As for what you rename your weapon, call it "You're SPECIAL" if "x" doesn't work. You can also try a different weapon. As you saw in the video, a bat from the Diamond City baseball vendor worked great for me.

Thanks for confirming and while it of course works how I showed/explained, it's entirely possible someone could find a way that works better for them as you did. Another example is instead of pressing the scrap option in the workbench, some people hold it down and then when they want it to execute, they release the button. Anyway, glad you got it working!

I somehow knew and hoped this was still a thing. The old scrap n store method has been goated for like 8 years and still works 😂😂 im very glad cuz the 1 thing i dreaded when i got onto the next gen version was how annoying it was about to be to have no junk in the workshops. I hated that part of the game and loved that there was at least an option to duplicate the junk. I imagine its the same for junk as it was where u hit all three buttons at the same time? Just to clarify a bit, it's tap square and hold circle at the same time. Use the x to confirm the scrap but have the store button still held until after?

@@SuperDarkness25 So you're hitting square (scrap) and then not as fast as you can after, but still pretty immediately, you're then hitting circle (store) while continuing to hold it after. Obviously if you don't get the bugged screen than rinse and repeat until you do, but once you have it, while continuing to hold down the store option, choose to scrap, then let go of store and choose to actually store it.

It lets me scrap the weapon and replace it with the special book, but when I go to mod it, it doesn't let me, despite having the materials to mod the weapon before it turning into the Special Book. Maybe the glitch doesn't work with the newest update :(

Already tested it since the last update weeks ago and it still works. What you experienced is something some people run into. I'd recommend trying the glitch with a different weapon is all.
