Rename your weapon to "You're SPECIAL". Exactly like what's in the quotations, including the apostrophe and capitals. If you're still having issues after that than it may have to do with your weapon and you can always try what I had success with. Go buy a basic bat from the baseball vendor in Diamond City Market and try with that. It seems to work for everyone else too. Good luck!

Just a heads up, something about the alphabetical order wasn’t really triggering correctly with “x” or “You’re SPECIAL!”, but renaming it to “Z” so it bumps up one letter to the item starting with “Y” worked perfectly first try. Maybe holding undroppable quest items goofs it up? 🤷‍♂️

Something that will help controller players in the second step is sort of gliding your thumb from the “scrap” button to the “store” button, in a sort of relaxed manner. That’s how I nailed the timing.

I want to add that you need to already have the material you receive from scrapping the weapon in your inventory beforehand. Or it will move the scrap into the table instead of the special book

It seems that the way the naming & scrapping part works is that when the bat (or other weapon) is scrapped, whatever the name is, it goes on the next material up, so when i named the boom Zou're SPECIAL instead of Youre it worked as the book was the next up in line.

if you wanna go to unreasonable lvls with this. modifiers to your special stats from consumables/ status effects will allow the special book to raise them up higher. like drinking alcohol. to make an in particular broken character dip into survival mode for a moment and becom starving, tired, and dehydrated. this will really drop most of your special stats. making it to where after your done getting your stats back up most of them will be sitting around 15 baseline if not higher.

Does the game actually register the additional benefit from 11+ specials? i.e. Persuasion checks are even easier with a charisma of 11 or higher?

@@hoytmifflin7679 it sure does. a really fun one is endurance. it reduces the ap cost for sprinting the higher it is so if you get endurance past i think 13 sprinting becomes free.

@@hoytmifflin7679 TLDR it sure does and some neat things can happen with certain special stats at high ranks. endurance- reduces AP cost for sprinting and at 21 end sprinting becomes free intelligence- reduces the number of wrong choices for hacking terminals so if you get that high enough you really only have right answers. agility- improves how good you sneak. and with how broken sneaking is in bethesda games you are pretty much a ghost with that buffed. charisma- you only need an 11 to guaranty passing red speech checks but hey higher char also increases settler max for settlements so if your aiming to make cities out of settlements it's pretty good. edit- so not using chems and before bobble heads just the special book and survival debuffs thirst, hunger, tired, overencumbered your looking at S=14 P=17 E=22 C=15 I-20 A=14 L=18

Anybody have a problems With the second part of the glitch? When you hit the scrap and then store a lot of times the store menu will pop up first even though you hit scrap first. I think you need to hit scrap first let it register and then hit store and hold store down like a split second you can’t do it too fast. I was doing it really fast and I was always hitting scrap first but the store menu kept popping up first. Hope that helps people.

Yeah I tried my best to explain in the video to not do it immediately and rather give it a bit longer to register scrap. If someone is also having the store option pop up, they're simply doing it a bit too fast is all. Clicking store I mean. So if that wait just a tad longer, they'll definitely get it.

I’ve been trying to get it to work but it keeps bringing up other items instead of the “You’re SPECIAL” book. I’m literally standing here naked with no items in my inventory (besides the book) & it still opts to grab steel I’ve collected from breaking down the neighbourhood (that isn’t even in my direct inventory). I got it to work. Oddly enough, I don’t have to put the mod on the book in some cases. It just throws me out of the crafting table & its ready for the next step but naming it has been key!

Alright so I just did this on PS5. I used the switchblade in the shed just outside 111, materials for the upgrade are around Sanctuary and at the first interaction with blood bugs outside Concord (blood sac for the fiberglass) I named it "z" rather than "x" on the advice of other commenters. Took maybe 20 minutes to get it all together and another 10 to drop/pickup the book. Anyone who says this isn't working is doing it wrong, which is wild because this isn't difficult at all. Anyway, cool guide man, worked perfectly.

Still works as of July 2024. I was frustrated at first as it wasn't working and kept bringing up anything else wxcept the special book. I put all my belongings in a container that i was able to drop and i personally used knuckles as the weapon. I just keep renaming it different things until the book popped up. In my case naming the weapon to Z worked and i was able to max all stats to 10 at level 6.

For the last step it's easier to time you X button presses before your B. Like start out with a slow paced X then press/hold B. Your more likely to screw up the X then the holding B. This is how I began to perfect it

Oh you mean for scrap / store? By far the most common problem for people is they press / hold the store option to quickly. I guess even despite if I say not to do it as quick as possible, their natural reaction to doing a glitch like this is to go as fact as they can or just really fast in general. This is a tad more methodical than that though and imo, in turn easier to get really consistent at.

I can’t get it to loop more than once. I know the method I’ve cloned thousands of items but this is confusing me. I get past the modification of the book, I get one point, then do scrap/store and when I get the modded book back it won’t let me gain more points? What am I doing wrong?

Only thing that would logically make sense to me for such a situation is that you're not getting the second part 100% correct. Getting the scrap and store options up at the same time, choosing scrap while having those 2 options up at the same time, and then choosing store after that. It should break down the copy of the book you have and then generate a new one.

I am playing on the Xbox series X. And I can confirm that it works. It took me about 50 tries each but it finally worked. The first part when you’re at the weapons workbench in order for that book to appear you need to have the required crafting materials in your inventory not just the weapon and the special book but the crafting materials that is required to make that Modded weapon in the first place. So have your special book and the modded weapon and the crafting materials that made that modded weapon. Hope this helps. I was doing this but naked like everyone else but I read the comment section and someone did it this way so yes it works. It will take time but once you do the glitch once it’s pretty much easy work after that you just keep doing the last part over and over. Whoever made this video thank you and I am now a subscriber.

Make sure you rename the weapon to lowercase x, a lot of times it will chose something else in your inventory instead of the special book if not 👍🏼

Yeah it seems that renaming it to "x" is causing that exact issue for some. Those in such a case should rename it to what the special book is called and that should fix it.

Try clearing your inventory of everything you don't need for the glitch. Additionally, have at least 1 of any resources in your inventory that the weapon your scrapping will turn into. So if your weapon would break down into wood and steel, have at least 1 of each of those in your inventory when attempting that part of the glitch. Multiple have said this helped them so hopefully it helps you too. As for what you rename your weapon, call it "You're SPECIAL" if "x" doesn't work.

I tried this with only the weapon and the magazine in my inventory, yet somehow the pip boy moddifier appears when performing the trick (I'm using a pip boy skin mod on pc)

Yeah this happens for some people. The fix has been trying it with a different weapon. Most find success with a basic melee weapon. As you saw in the video, a basic bat from the baseball vendor in Diamond City Market worked for me. That's what I would recommend trying as it seems to work for everyone else too. Make sure you name it "You're SPECIAL" as well.

Quick comment for everyone: Empty your inventory as much as you can for this except whatever scrap you would receive for scrapping the weapon in question; if its a bat then wood, shot gun then steel and wood. Now, I found naming the gun ‘x’ and doing this with the scrap in my inventory as others said just made whatever Aid items I had show up like wine for example, when depositing all these then the game would just force exit the work bench. I had to name the gun “You’re SPECIAL!” as others have suggested otherwise it didn’t work. I think based on your platform you’ll have mixed results.

Working on xbox series s. I started a fresh save. I have "visuals" selected instead of performance because i read that has something to do with it not working. I used the 10mm pistol from the overseers office. I renamed it to "x". I didn't remove any weapons from my inventory, and it worked fine. 5/30/24

I don't know if it's just a PlayStation problem or not Connor but on PS5 on the PS4 edition of Fallout 4 for some reason when I go to press the store button it gives me the store option when I press it and not when I let it go. So I can't press and hold the store button.

That's how it is for everyone. I don't see why that would be an issue either. You press scrap, wait ever so slightly, and then press / hold store. If you get the store option popping up every time and without the scrap option bugging on top of it than you're pressing / holding store too quickly after pressing scrap so just back of the speed a hair.

For the last part, it helps if you visualize the scrap and store buttons as pistons moving up and down. Try to press the O button as soon as you release the square button. Not in a fast way but more methodical. It’s also way easier if you use two fingers. Hope this helps someone

I did this a year ago, and I saved step-by-step on the PS4 version All I did was load a transfer save when I had the stats & after I duplicated the resources to make a ton of Molotovs got to level 50 before I even left sanctuary

@@MrDugath Different names seem to work for different people and probably based on what weapon they’re doing it with and or what they have in their inventory. Strange. As for you not getting an option to select a stat from the book after, that would mean you’re not scrapping and then storing it. You would have to be doing just one or the other for nothing to come from it. If you do both as shown in the video though, it will turn out correctly.

It works!!!!! Xbox user I had the knuckles renamed it Z. I was buck naked had the martial stored in workbench everything else was stored in boxes . It’s all timing I used two fingers and used my saves to keep trying but the first part is the hardest after that you’re golden. Made this comment for those who are about to give up

The glitch puts whatever is in your misc alphabetically. So I tried it and Zeta invaders appeared instead of You're Special. Once I stored the holotape, You're Special appeared. However, I had no option to scrap it.

No option to scrap the book? You're not supposed to be able to scrap it in the workbench after scrapping the weapon. You then put a mod on the book that was previously available to put on the weapon you scrapped. After doing that, the book can than be scrap/store glitched to essentially dupe a new single copy of it each time in workshop mode.

So you get to the glitched screen with the book in the workshop where you can put a mod on it, but it instantly kicks you out? If so, someone mentioned having the same problem and to fix it they clearly out all of their inventory asides from what they need for the glitch, but they also used a different name on the weapon. Try changing the name on the weapon to some/all of these until one hopefully changes the outcome. What someone needs to have the name as seems to vary and so there is no universal choice unfortunately. Give these a go though and with any luck, 1 will work. "You're SPECIAL" , "X" , "Y" , "Z". You can try lowercase of those letters too.

Yes, my book was also already picked up and in turn used as you can see in the video. The glitch being done essentially dupes a new copy of the item and so will give you a point each time.

Try clearing your inventory of everything you don't need for the glitch. Additionally, have at least 1 of any resources in your inventory that the weapon your scrapping will turn into. So if your weapon would break down into wood and steel, have at least 1 of each of those in your inventory when attempting that part of the glitch. Multiple have said this helped them so hopefully it helps you too. As for what you rename your weapon, call it "You're SPECIAL" if "x" doesn't work.

So after an hour of fiddling I finally got it to work. Tried every letter of the alphabet in lowercase, XY & Z uppercase, along with a bunch of random symbols & numbers with the 10mm pistol. I tried naming it You're, youre special, You're SPECIAL!, youre, & a few other variations. Absolutely nothing worked, I kept getting other undroppable items from my inventory. Then I started experimenting with different weapons. I noticed that I was getting different items with other weapons. The combo of using knuckles & a lower case x eventually got the glitch to work as intended. I'd recommend if youre doing this with a save that youve put some time into, dont try every letter of the damn alphabet. Do XY & Z in upper & lowercase, maybe try You're SPECIAL! & If none of those work, for the love of god, try a different weapon.

LMAO, I tip you doing the whole alphabet. It doesn't make sense for the glitch to work with the majority of letters, but obviously not everyone knows the ins and outs of how/why this stuff works. Given that, I can understand you trying so much. As much as the name can come into play, the weapon you use seems to be able to do the same. I'm glad you found what works for you. Enjoy!

Awesome video-worked perfectly in the end and really appreciate the detailed explanation! At first I couldn't get the book to show the highlighted mods and thought my updated version (newer one than the one in this video) had fixed it-but thought with the age of the game now surely they wouldn't be fixing things like this when its still a little glitchy at times (new players make sure you save regularly as it can crash here and there!). Tried again and it worked which was a little odd but wasn't complaining lol. The only non-smooth part in all this is when you're trying to do the quick 'scrap/store' button move but if you miss it cancel back a step and try again as on the second or third attempt it will work (still working as of 050624). Just make sure you hit scrap & store almost at the same time, but make sure you continue to hold down the store button as you release the scrap button. A couple of times I let go of the store button and THEN pressed scrap which meant it didn't work-so remember to keep the store button held down, then press scrap and THEN you can let go of the store button to answer 'Yes' when it asks if you want to store the book in the Workshop. Rinse/repeat and you're Data & The Terminator all in one lol

Make sure you’re pressing scrap and then not immediately after, but still quick after, pressing and holding down store. When you get it right you’ll have happen what does in the video with the 2 bugged menus. Then while still holding down the store option which is what keeps the bugged menus up, choose to scrap with a different finger followed by then choosing to store.

The dupe does nothing when i pick it up on pc, no option to increase a stat and i got the double menu. When i pressed confirm on scrap whole stll holding store down i don't get any components, so something is wrong here lol.

An update for Xbox One. It *does* still work. It took me a good bit of trying, but after renaming my weapon to "You're SPECIAL!" I got it to work. Remember, while both Scrap and Modify are pressed roughly at the same time, technicially Modify is pressed first, and then Scrap. After I got the book modded, the duplication glitch came easily enough.

It lets me scrap the weapon and replace it with the special book, but when I go to mod it, it doesn't let me, despite having the materials to mod the weapon before it turning into the Special Book. Maybe the glitch doesn't work with the newest update :(

Already tested it since the last update weeks ago and it still works. What you experienced is something some people run into. I'd recommend trying the glitch with a different weapon is all.

Nah that happens to some people regardless of having a modded save. Try renaming it to one of these options instead of x. "You're SPECIAL" , "X" , "Y" , "Z".

@@ShaggyInPoint The book is already misc. You want to do the first part of the glitch where you put a mod onto the book in order to make it an item you can scrap in workshop mode. Then you do the second part of the glitch where you scrap and store it at the same time. The game will register you scrapping the book which gets rid of the original and then it will register you storing it which will be a new copy and can be used for a special stat. Rinse and repeat the second part until max.

So you’re able to scrap a weapon and have it swap to your special book in the workbench? If so, are you 100% sure the weapon you scrap has a mod slot on it and a mod option within that which you have the requirements to make? Like if you wanted to actually put it on there right then? If so than you should be able to mod it onto the book after and do the rest of the glitch from there.

This will not work for me. I can scrape and modify it every time with no issues, but the game will not put the You're SPECIAL book in place of my pistol. I keeps putting the materials i get from scrapping or the PipBoy.

You're attempting to execute the glitch correctly, but something is stopping it from working. Is your inventory cleared of any items you don't need for the glitch? What are you renaming the weapon to and what weapon is it?

So, for the most part, it worked, but there are 3 stats, strength, Perception and agility that cap at 9 and then when you replicate the book and use it, it says do nothing. Does anyone know why some stats will Max and others won't?

For the majority of people, maxing to 10 on everything goes smoothly. I have seen a few including yourself now though that get 1-3 stats to 9 and can't max them. Not a clue in the world why this happens, but bobbleheads will get you to 10 at least. Alternatively you could debuff those stats in various ways and do the glitch more so that they can go up higher again.

That would be because you didn't put a mod on it in the workbench. That is was modifies it and turns it into an item that can be scrapped.

Question please: I've just now started the game again(newest/latest). I dropped EVERYTHING to get the special book to force for 'modify' 👍 BUT when you scrap weapon, game now forces the bloody pipboy to 'modify'😖😳 I have a scary feeling the ba$tards have 'fixed' the rank up glitch with the book ??? Any updated info greatly appreciated 🤓🗒✏️ Also, when starting game again, it says all the 'old' add ons are 'out of date' and asks 'uninstall/update' ? I got it to work mostly. The first part with the weapon is the hardest part. Just takes timing. My problem is the strength option disappeared before i could get it to 10. It stopped at 9 and doesnt show up. Everything else worked. Anyone else have this issue?

I've seen a few people mention have a singular stat get to 8 or 9 and then they can't get it higher. You could always debuff yourself with consumables or by waiting time in survival to bring your stats down. Then do the glitch some more. When the debuffs wear off you'll have your stats go up however much they originally went down.

I used this glitch at the start to raise all my stats to around 15. Played on survival for a while to stock up on drugs so I could get all the addictions and push even further. However, now that I have all the addictions, am starving/dehydrated, and have multiple stats below 10 and can still dupe the book, but now whenever I pick it up again it doesn't give me the option to raise anything. Just "do nothing". Any ideas?

Well you said you used this glitch before to get to max so I feel like I shouldn't have to ask this and it probably isn't the case, but are you 100% sure you're doing it right in your attempts now? I don't know what would make the book all of a sudden not offer you a stat increase if you're scrapping the OG one and creating a new one (by currently scrap/store duping it). I personally have debuffed special stats and then continued to use this glitch after too. Many others as well. So yeah that's strange if all is being done correctly.

@@DemonAsylum Yeah, early on I think I raised everything to max just using the survival debuffs, but pretty sure over time as I got drugs or alcohol I would use the drugs/alcohol for temp debuffs to raise my stats by another point or two. Then played a bunch to get stuff like calmx and daddy o in order to get all the addictions at once, and do one more round of duping the book to push them as high as possible. Pretty sure I'm still doing it correctly. I get the store and salvage menu. Take it out of the workshop and drop it, but then when I go to use it I don't get the option to increase any stats. Stats are already high so not the end of the world but still a little disappointing, because I spent a lot of time trying to get the rarer drugs.

@@Yistern Honestly I don't have a solution for such a thing unfortunately. Assuming everything is being done right on your end, it must be a really specific issue or bug as well since out of everyone I've seen post comments and such, only 1 other person I can recall said anything similar to your issue. Like the book just not working at all despite doing everything for the glitch correctly. Do you happen to have the Contraptions Workshop DLC though? If so you can use the dupe I posted for that and simply dupe the books. Like ACTUALLY dupe multiple copies of it. Every duped copy should provide you a point as well.

I'm on a PC without a controller, just keyboard/mouse and I have no problem with the timing for duplication in construction mode with "store/delete", but it's impossible to find the right timing for the workshop with "modify/ delete" to modify the book... I would like to know, if on PC with keyboard the glitch was successful ?

I will say that even on controller, the combo you're struggling with is imo definitely harder than the one you have no problem with. It should certainly be possible all the same on PC and the fact that you were able to do one combo backs that up imo. Can you be more specific with where the issue comes into play for the timing? Are you accidently scraping your weapon every time for instance? Or it it something else?

Open the console command and type: player.additem 001a62d4 No need to do it book by book, you can repeat the command 30 times and put everything on the ground... After giving the points, I put the 30 books in a suitcase then recycled the suitcase in construction mode... The proof of my cheating disappeared :)
