@@ThatBlondeDudeI don't know where I heard this from but I believe canonically power armor suits could be lived in for up to a few days at a time. Pristine pre-war suits would've been completely self-contained, pressurized, with onboard rations of food and water, waste reclamation, etc. And probably at least one backup fusion core so you could keep going, without exiting your suit. When it's time to sleep just power down to lock the joints and sleep standing up.

⁠@@adamb89I think it was in Fallout 1. I know I heard it before but I thought they said weeks or months. It had all that stuff you mentioned was temperature controlled, and an independent oxygen supply and a rebreather/filter for redundancy sake when you go into the water or into irradiated air. 4 should have made them last much longer to reflect that though I get they wanted to have some limitations to its use. Also you should be 100% immune to radiation and parasites with the filters.

This is actually the intended use case, the cores do the same amount of damage no matter how much charge is left so if your core goes low in a fight you can explosively eject it to finish off your foes.

It's actually try good for late game. I did a pure intelligence build for the Beginning to be able to use Power armor for the entire game, eventually I had well over 100 fusion cores so I do just use them as grenades because I found them faster than spent them. Though mind you, I was selling them until I was set on caps

I hate this affect as it is bound to the grenade key and activates when you have none left. Too many times in combat have I been throwing plasma grenades forward only to hear a beeping behind me. That beeping means I just wasted 75% charge on a fusion core and also forced myself to move forwards, typically always into enemy firing lines

Always hated this perk. Nuclear physicist 3 should improve fusion core length in power armor and double your air time with jet pack. Theres plenty of nuking things in the game. Nuka grenades for instance. If you wanna do something neat with a fusion core allow them to power energy weapons. Normal damage with 999 charges and an ability to increase damage output at loss of charges. 499 charges for double damage. Or beam canon.

I feel like there are other, vastly more ridiculous perks in the game. Lead Belly, Refractor, Aquaboy and Adamantium Skeleton all come to mind. This sounds actually half-ways plausible. In a world where OSHA was clearly never invented before the bombs fell and cars go up in a mini-atomic explosion when you put a few bullets into them, a self-destruct ejector for your nuclear power source actually doesn't sound all that outlandish. Is it weird? By irl standards, yes. Is is ridiculous? In context, not really.
