I just jumped right in and started building. That's how you learn. I had some trouble snapping stuff together at first, but I eventually figured it out. Now one side of my vault looks nice (the part where I actually figured out how to build properly), while the other side of my vault looks like crap, because I started building without really knowing what I was doing. Lol I love to build for hours. It's fun. Of course, not everyone is as patient. Thanks for this tutorial!

The Vault 88 DLC would of been much better to me if we had gotten some basic in-game instructions on how to build a Vault at all. Instead we are given everything and practically told, "Have at it already!". I spent more than six hours in total yesterday trying to figure out how to do a proper Vault in Vault 88. I got somewhere that aspires to mediocrity. Now that I know that you are supposed to "snap" rooms via the doorways I feel mighty stupid because I was not doing that yesterday into last night. I was trying to create at least five different rooms for my new vault dwellers to use. Instead I resorted to making a single room with seven or so beds somewhat neatly placed. I will try out what I learned in this video later in Fallout 4.

I don't know whether to tear apart everything I'd just built or give up and keep my imperfect but enormous atrium as it is.

You actually can extend your atrium ceiling. Just separate them to whatever length you like using atrium floor peices, build up your atrium walls in between, then extend the roof from there. There will be a gap left between the atrium end peices and the ceiling and walls, but if you remove the end peices and place an additional wall or ceiling piece, you can then replace the end peice and it will snap into place and fill in the gap.

It'll only snap on to newly placed walls though, if you want power to the main entrance you'll have the wire it up like you normally would with wires and conduits stretching out from the power plant, the VT conduits that you can place emit power up to a 500m range and will power anything that doesn't require a direct connection, if it does you can still place a wire from the conduit to the object you're trying to power, there is a mod that'll increase the passive power range up to 1,500m so if you're having issues with placement I'd suggest downloading it =) Hope this helps!

If you use TCL you can see that the original generator is actually connected to the first "snap-able" vault floor via a series of regular conduits below the ground. you could do something similar to hack power to the old part of the vault.

You 'can' widen the atrium with a little work. Set the pieces like JV did and put as many floors pieces down as how far you want to widen it. Put the other side on. Now you have a gap. Take ladders and keep tweaking them until you get a floor of you choice to line up above. I used the warehouse mesh floor and it made for a cool look on top. It will be slightly sitting above the Atrium tops.

Correction to atrium width, the Atrium has it's own special roofpiece and the atrium can be as wide AS WELL AS long as you like, both directions by using the roofpiece under the atrium component list. You would totally love my 3 story vault gymnasium, but I have no idea how to copy and post videos lol. Also worth a note: pieces can and do sometimes snap slightly off the invisible grid, watch closely to make sure there are no gaps in your constructions and that it all is lined up right or you will have trouble down the road. and LAST TIP: when snapping pieces that intersect with the cave roof, sometimes once the item is snapped into place it will no longer highlight and thus becomes a permanent part of your cave ceiling so make sure you are IN EXACTLY THE RIGHT POSITION BEFORE YOU SNAP IT IN PLACE, or you could be like me and wind up with areas that are permanently screwed up lol. . . . . . just makes it more challenging lol. OK, that bit about the door endcaps is really helpful and the trick I need to really start building my own vault. My question is how does one go about building in the tunnels? Is there some sort of trick that I'm not thinking of or will you have to do some sort of 'airlock' setup for them? Another question is how to close off the actual vault doors, I keep ending up with this open space between the gear and where the next piece clips together

I'm having trouble with the vault entrance. There's that big reactor in the room off to the left of the workshop, but I can't get the vault conduit to snap anywhere in that area. Am I missing something? I want to build a wall of laser turrets to protect the entrance, but why build a gas generator when the 150 power reactor is right friggin' there?
@joshuapalmer87808 жыл бұрын
yeah it's tricky as fuck.. I've figured the entrance doesn't count as built 'tiles' that the conduit can stick to.. the best I can figure is lining up conduit pipes along the ceiling, and connecting it to the generator with wires.. It's tricky but I've been successful so far, doesn't get in the way all that much. Hope this helps.

The floors actually don't have to be connected to the generator. I put the one with 500 power in the room with the water filter, and didn't connect floors to it. You just need the conduits. I've had issues with railings. I had set up stairs in my attrium, and wanted to put railings around the open areas, but I couldn't get 3 rails to snap, and even the one U shaped piece wouldn't snap, and I have no idea why. It just kept snapping backwards, it'd face the floor, instead of the stairs. I ended up just redesigning the area to make things work.
