It blew me away when I went from fallout 4 VR on quest link and switched to virtual desktop VR. Increasing the color vibrancy made it pop! I even found there was a lot less shimmering.
@Stereo3DPlays7 ай бұрын
The reduced shimmering is basically a symptom of a much higher base resolution, but this thing is probably also running a high encoder res width... so the image becomes like fine wine. I dare you to try Steam Link now just so you can assault your eyes... yes, I was normally using Airlink before VD, but just before switching to VD I used Steam Link for a couple of weeks and it just made the leap so much more evident. Steam Link is a low res high latency shimmering mess. Makes VD look like sophisticated alien tech from the future.

It's just as choppy and it doesn't support stereoscopic output. I've tried using two instances set to left eye and right eye but they'd go out of sync, making things even worse. Sometime in late 2019, something changed in SteamVR that just made mirroring super inefficient. Haven't been able to put my finger on the issue since.
@hollywoodandcoexperience96578 ай бұрын
@@Stereo3DPlays Strange, I tested skyrim vr ( with around 35 mods ) like an hour ago recording via obs with the openvr plugin with no issues and as I recall it ran fallout just the same, I am using h264 so thats more than likely dropping a lot of overhead from the gpu for me as I'm only running a 2080 with an I7 8700.

If you're capturing mono, it's probably why you don't have issues. Stereo be hard! LOL PS: Either way I'm very happy with my current solution. Video is smooth with most bumps completely smoothed out.

I should add that it looks even more amazing when you copy and paste the high resolution textures from the 2D game and they work perfectly, including the DLCs. Just make sure you get the automatron fix.

I'm trying to play this with Virtual Desktop on a Quest 3 and I'm finding the image is extremely grainy. Unfortunately videos and screenshots of it don't really show the issue. Wondering if you had this same problem? It's really noticeable with trees and foliage. I'm trying to figure out if it's my setup or if that's just how it looks. Thanks
@Stereo3DPlays7 ай бұрын
Disable the sharpening if you have any, if I recall correctly I did that before even loading in. I typically find those filters cause unwanted grain to appear. You can try messing with the color vibrance effect on and off.

You should try out this mod list and use the video as a guide. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zmq1pX17eLx5frc There are steps to set it up that are tedious but the mods themselves are a one click install. This will give you a full body avatar (supporting all clothing and armor visuals) with a working pip boy on your arm, real physics melee interactions (swing your weapon to attack), better gun handling, holsters on your body where you can put weapons and so much more that would take hours to explain. Icing on the cake, the list is optimized to the point where the game PERFORMS BETTER with these mods than the vanilla game. This list will seriously turn your game into a proper VR game, the one that Bethesda should have given us. So worth it.

Thanks I will DEFINITELY watch this, because I need help with the stupid mods. I have put modding on indefinite hiatus given after experimenting with FRIK (see part 16 and 17) the game started crashing when loading saves while mods are enabled. I am damn afraid that my FRIK config holotape got corrupt somehow and every time I load in, the game crashes. I definitely DO NOT want to have to start a new save. I would rather slice my own leg off with a butter knife than see this game's intro one more time. I most definitely do not want a full body avatar, though. I enabled the one in FRIK while it was working, and it's bloody ridiculous... I did however like the arms-only mode, although that mode actually has a major bug where the arms are only visible in 180 degrees of your space. So far the game has been a delight in vanilla mode. I might give this another shot after watching the video, but I really don't mind sticking to the status quo after the time I wasted on these.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnvIZJprrd-Norc Here is the video showing my initial experience with FRIK, along with the moment it started crashing my gave, leading me to give up on mods altogether. And, actually, any advice is welcome if you've run into a similar issue. It all fell apart when I tried to adjust the weapons placement. that save and every single one after installing FRIK never loaded without crash unless I disabled F4SE. This, even on pure, fresh installs, leading me to believe there's a bug with FRIK's config holotape causing corruption.

@@Stereo3DPlays Doing it the way I linked is a mostly automated process so if you follow it exactly user error is pretty much impossible
@Stereo3DPlays8 ай бұрын
I don't think it was user error, like I said the issue is with FRIK corrupting its config within my save file. The reason I know this is because I've clean reinstalled quite a few times trying to resolve this, yet the exact same issue happens, because I reload my saves from the cloud. Even after a recent Windows reinstall when I got a new NVME, it's still happening. Again, if there's any hope though, it's what you're sharing here. Will definitely try it.
@Stereo3DPlays8 ай бұрын
Damn, ok I have viewed the entire process, and as I feared, this is something I would need to do with a fresh save. There's no way I can cram this beast of a mod stack mid game without pretty major issues. However I am making note of a few steps she took that I did not, steps that I could incorporate in my manual FRIK install to finally coerce it into working once and for all. Last but not least I'm really not crazy of those texture mods. Maybe it's just video but everything looks downgraded in terms of colors.

I see your using vive controllers, Ive never used them before are they worth the price?
@Stereo3DPlays8 ай бұрын
Those are Quest controllers. I would rather eat a live chicken with the bones than use VIVE wands ever again, they were garbage. PS: Fallout 4 VR is so ancient it projects the wrong controllers in the game, hence why you see those god awful wands in there.

@Stereo3DPlays7 ай бұрын
Yeah the standalone GPU just isn't strong enough to run the pretty games. Yes, it's come a long way, but it's still one decade away from being able to come close to running Fallout 4 on itself. However, running it off a PC doesn't need too much of a high spec, in fact with today's low end hardware being so powerful, you could probably play this game on a ~800$ barebone PC with a cheap dedicated graphics card.
