I have had a litany of requests for a lighting tutorial. This tutorial covers some of the physics of lighting in Fallout, but also inchudes many examples, tips, and ideas Now, this tutorial shares many of my lighting ideas and concepts. However, it is not all-encompassing. This tutorial will help any builder, whether they are a beginner or a pro. At the very least, it will give you some insight on how I do my lighting. This video took a ton of time and lots of editing, so I hope you find it helpful!
If there is anyone who did any of these techniques prior to me showing them in this tutorial that would like credit, please let me know, and I'll add them to this description. Most of these ideas are my own, but that's not to say that someone didn't also come up with the same idea along the way.
Also, here's the link to the Flamingo Budget Spreadsheet mentioned in the video!
docs.google.co...
Lastly, check out this lighting guide by NukaViolet. It is two years old, but many of the techniques are still relevant today!

Thanks, a good tutorial. 👌👍 At 7:18 min. you take a light in a Helvetia Deko. Another option: I put candles on a Power Armor Shoulder, put the PA back, and now build the Helvetia Deko around the candle.

Yes, power armor works great for that. I've seen that trick before, but I didn't want to plagiarized it from someone else's tutorial. You can use the power armor trick for less of cool floating tricks! Thank you so much for watching and sharing my friend!

Kind of off-topic, but... the new torches should not count as lights in the build menu, if we have to "manually" turn them on every time we log into the game. All the other lights stay on. B needs to either make it so that it "stays on", or make it into a decoration. 3:22 HOW TO DO THE BLUE ON THIS SET??

I agree with FalloutKurier6, most of the lights are blinding! We need some deeper darker tones that aren’t as bright but still ambient.
@MoonlightCowboyGaming

Yes. I believe good lighting has separation, meaning that there are light spots with patches of dark in-between. That's why I love lights that are more subtle, like the miniature holiday lampposts and the yellow diner lights.

@MoonlightCowboyGaming

I wish it were the viewers that I needed to worry about. I worry about other elite builders and content creators. Believe it or not, in the world of competitive and elite camp building, there tends to be some gatekeeping with tricks. Some popular builders get mad when a trick is released, especially if they felt like they figured it out first, even if they didn't share it with anyone. Also, I can't possibly watch every single channel to see if someone came out with the idea before me. So I typically I do a search on YT and Reddit to see if someone else came out with a new trick first. If I can't find anything, then I post. (Unless the trick has been or so long that it's hard to find out who did it first.) But as an example, one of my good friends who has a YT channel got harassed by a very popular YT content creator for sharing a technique on their channel. The popular one has shared it first on their channel, and the much smaller content creator didn't think it would be that big of an issue, as the popular person's tutorial was older. I get that some people want credit for their work. And if they ask for it after the fact, it may be fair to add credit in the description. But it can be very cutthroat. And as content creators gain popularity, they get a big target on their back. So for me, I want to avoid being publicly flogged for stealing an idea. And there are a few very popular builders that are only in it for themselves, and don't care about the community unless there is something in it for them. Those are the people I worry about.

The Enlightened Lantern from the mothman equinox event is another small light (bigger than the mini-street lamp) that doesn't take away from your fifty-light budget. And it's free to get in the game if you're lucky enough to snag it from the event or find it in a player vendor. I've been going crazy with that lil' floor object light. And the fire from the last fireplace, the one that snaps into a door frame, that can be found in the lights section, but it also doesn't count against your light budget.
@MoonlightCowboyGaming
@MoonlightCowboyGaming 4 ай бұрын
Yes! I've played with the new Fireplace logs, and that is a great option. I've heard about the mothman lamp, but I don't have it yet lol. One cool idea that someone gave me after the video came out. Using the Tiki torches as burners for your stove! I might do a supplemental video about it. They are cool because you have to turn them on every time you move your camp or spawn in.
@Bubble_0f_d00m
@Bubble_0f_d00m 4 ай бұрын
@@MoonlightCowboyGaming I put one of those fireplace fires in my stove, sure gives a "call the fire department and don't throw water on a cooking oil fire" feels. That fire can be a real pain to place because it doesn't move when you move something it's sitting on. I never thought of using the tiki torches. You could get a steady gaslight blue flame! I hate that the torches keep needing to be turned on, but I can see the value in it too. Just prevents you from merging the torches fully into things for just the glow. But I bet it would look great on a stove.

The problem with lighting in this game is that it doesn't get dark enough. With a fog weather controller station lighting looks better, it's darker in broad daylight than it gets during the night and lighting actually looks nice. I wish they'd give us propper nights and a better skybox too.
@MoonlightCowboyGaming
