yep, I can snipe a ghoul/scorched at 30-40% halfway across the golf course/airport but the super mutant on the trailer roof at westtek starting at 95% takes 5-6 shots with concentrated fire perk maxed. I have even waited a couple minutes after fast travelling, entered vats/exited vats, switched weapons/switch back, rotated to head/arm/torso, and still dumping multiple shots into nothing. Annoying, would complain about the loss of ammo but I have over 200K ultracite plasma cartridges stashed.

You can also use Aim (right mouse button on PC) to exit VATS.

For those on console who want to jump and crit, swap your A/X buttons from Activate to Jump. I found it to be an easier transition than trying other buttons. So swap A and Y on Xbox or swap X and ∆ on PS. Hope this helps!

Only issues with this is it’s the same button as exiting your power armor so only really works outside or PA.

Idk if this was said or not but a critical also always hits so if your V.A.T.S.ing a target faraway and have like a 2% hot chance if you critical you’ll make the shot.

switch left ctrl (pressed with your hand jst below the little finger) to jump and left alt to crouch (since this is toggled) then u can do this without weighting down your spacebar since your thumb will be free, and it wont mess your muscle memory of the WASD hand placement by adding left alt as a button you press alot.

Umm...you are using muscle memory as a reason...but you're also telling folks to not use the spacebar for jump...which has been the jump button for 40 years... Did you just have a stroke??? How about you just get an adult gaming mouse and you can use one of the many additional buttons on it to toggle crits, then you don't have to screw with any muscle memory. Simple easy fix.

Another great video. I really like videos explaining the mechanics of the game. Sometimes I assume a thing is happening by the name and then find out, that it is actually different to what I thought 😋 I did this slightly differently using mouse. Changed jump key as well. Then I remapped a spare Logitech G502 mouse button (closest to thumb) to also be Space Bar. Keyboard and mouse share the Space Bar. Holding the mouse button down, with thumb, has become very natural for crits over the years.

This was a similar trick I did in nuclear winter. I changed my jump button to LB, so that I could jump and aim without taking my right thumb off right stick.

I've been playing the game for 4 months. Day 1 I thought it was so stupid that my jump button on Xbox controller was Y. So I changed it. I jump/jet in VATS literally every day! It blew my mind when you brought this up on stream awhile ago. I thought everyone did it 😅 I didn't know, that a crit hit couldn't charge your crit meter, no matter what. Good to know!

For some reason the jump button is set to Y on every fallout game on Xbox. I always change it to A.

8:40 I'd argue 4LC is useful... If you can't reach 33 base Luck, I've tested and it works as a temporary Crit Savvy to give you Crits every other shot _😀😀_

I never even thought to remap Jump...I've played for too long, I'm not changing it now. I'd be a fumbling mess trying to play 😂 I just learned last week that we can move our 3rd person camera out! I felt really dumb... So don't worry, we're all still learning!

Hey there! I think I recall you complaining about this before and maybe I commented then, but ahhh... I never had this problem since launch because I always bind my jump key to "A". I shift all my movement keys one to the right because it just feels so much better. The "F" key has a nub on it so it's easy to find your "center", and it puts the movement keys more in the middle of everything (particularly when you use a split keyboard). So my pinky sits right over "A" making it super easy to jump/etc. Anyway- glad you finally fixed your issue!

if you reeeeeally dont want to use another button for jumping (and you have a program for your mouse/keyboard) , set jump to another button, then go into the program and swap the jump and crit button

Haha, I changed my keybinding for jump and grenade toss on ps5 a long time ago. I like being able to jump without taking my thumb off the right analog, makes mobility much easier. Being able to jump while in vats is just a bonus.

The last one was really a fantastic tip. But not because of autocrit - because of the ability to jump in vats. As you've said, it is a great tactical benefit. If you have marsupial or jetpack you can just jump up and kill enemies over their cover. But jumping with space all the way from the Oblivion getting used to the other key could be hard ... I figured out I can't jump in VATS, but I guessed it's some sort of game mechanics limiting its efficiency and not a keymapping issue.

I actually DID know that.... but the only reason is because I panic press. I love my jetpack, and I'll usually fly away from combat, startled, if something doesn't die fast enough, and I noticed sometimes I'm just fooshing around while trying to shoot behind me as I make a tactical retreat.

Thanks for the video, I humbly disagree with what you said about vats accuracy on the weapon card. I have tested the fixer and the handmade from shooting the targets at long distances, they both have the same range however the handmade has more vats accuracy and I am able to connect more of my shots with the handmade. Thanks for sharing your hard earned expertise. Any time I try to assign a target body part in VATS, scrolling brings up the favourites wheel. I remapped the Favourites wheel to the F key which does work to select the wheel, but using the mousewheel scroll still opens the favourites wheel. I use a full health build with Secret Service armour. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Basically just accept console players won’t really be able to have an auto crit as it’s impractical to have the triangle button taped down, but do go ahead and remap jump, it’s very comfortable on r1 to jump and bash /grenade as triangle.

There needs to be an auto crit toggle you can select. The other thing I don't like with having jump and crit the same is when you jump accidentally and off a platform like in the Test Your Metal event.

If on console, try mapping jump as the right bumper or R1 and use bash/throw grenade as Y / Triangle it’s much less annoying to bash occasionally instead of jumping. Have been doing this for years it’s much nicer and as turtle says you can fly and aim in vats etc.

I remapped my jump button to my bash button (R1 on PS5) years ago, since I rarely bash or throw nades, and use vats and jump much more often than either. Complete game changer for PVE and PVP especially

interesting, I had big problems with instinctively hitting Q "space "together to enter vats, my character would jump // use the jetpack // burn all stamina // fall to their death. I had the brain wave to remap critical to right mouse, so i could just hold both mouse buttons, couldn't believe its not in the button mappings...

I just played the game and it didn't teach you about VATS, you just look at controls that says Q and figure out, I thought it was only for power armour because of the technology, didn't know it applies to the player as well. When I press Q nothing happen, I have to hold it for a while for it to pop out.

The Liberator I’ve noticed does the opposite. They don’t have a torso. Because of that if you’re targeting the torso targeting a liberator with reset your vats to the head. I figured that out using vats at Mama Dolce’s. 😅

Now swap the buttons with a program (many available) outside of the game (remapping) and you can stil jump etc. with spacebar 😮

It would be nice, if you're in vats, pressing the interact button would let you toggle auto crit or not. Btw turtle I've been wondering, what's the deal with field surgeon? Is it worth using? How does it work? There's very little actual info on it. I found 1 video of someone testing it, but it wasn't good testing like you do. I tried testing it myself, but I'm just not sure.

It could be worse. I play left handed (left on the mouse, right on the num block), so the spacebar is reeeeeally out of the way. I can use crits very rarely and I have to stay still otherwise...

Sweet video Turtle! The last tip is awesome but I wasn’t aware that higher Range affected VATS accuracy. On the scorecard, sometimes it improved other stats that I wanted and didn’t list accuracy improvement, so I went with short. Still, had to see the whole vid to catch those wisdom gems. Ty!

I knew I can remap jump to a different key, but never did it as my muscle memory trained by other games still always hits space bar for jump. After playing Fallout 76 for 5+ years changing something like that would be even harder. So I continue to automatically hold down space bar whenever I enter VATS.

If you have a keyboard that can have macros or programable keys, you can have space pressed down 24/7 without weights on the keyboard. Much more effective.

Ok. This is for you that never cared about the details of VATS. The two most important tips from Angry Turle are: First, use as much perk levels of Critical Savvy and Better Criticals as you can. NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT: CHANGE THE JUMP KEY TO SOMETHING ELSE (I use Q, but this might not be the best). This way, KEEP pressing space and you'll be making Crits and NOT stupidly jumping and wasting points with that. Actually, you'll probably want to keep the weapon Powerful Automatic Receiver, if you're in a Commando build (therefore getting the most of both settings, Critical based ones are for Rifleman, or single shot, so)

I've never seen any value Awareness, its just not worth 2 points. If you are new you don't have a wide variety of damage types at your disposal and by the time you do you know what works on what. I would rather the extra points into Concentrated Fire to assure fewer wasted shots and some added bang.

I have 33 luck and with my auto choo choo because I get like 2-3 hits on an enemy with one vats shot, I get critical every time I pull the trigger.

Hopefully more people will pay attention to videos like this. In my opinion, the bloodied commando build is the way to go because I used to run a full health build and complain all the time because I never got a hit on anything because everybody else was killing it before I could even pull my weapon out. Now, I get the occasional thumbs down from players that are 5 to 10 times my level because they can’t get a hit on something because I’m there taking care of business. If you’re going to solo this game, not a recommended thing to do because you are going to spend a lot of time trying to level up as opposed to joining a team of people that know what they’re doing and getting guidance and soaking up XP in the process. Teamwork makes the dream work.
