As a software developer, let me paint a picture what it's like to work on a project with as many people as that. Imagine you are a cook working on a big 5-course meal for a huge amount of people. So you are just cooking pasta with salt. No big deal, you did it a thousand times before. But suddenly you notice that someone changed the salt you were using into sugar. It was definetly salt when you started. But three other cooks already started making cakes with what is now sugar. So you can't just change it back. And your supervisor is screaming at you to just get the freaking pasta done. How incompetent do you have to be to screw up pasta after all? So you panic and throw a bunch of spices into the mix so that in the end the pasta ends up tasting at least somewhat like pasta cooked with salt. Now another cook starts making a more elaborate pasta-dish with your pasta. But he assumes it's just pasta cooked with salt and doesn't know what a mess it really is underneath. Now imagine that that is just a single week in a multi-year long cooking session. And halfway through the owner comes down and tells you all to make a barbeque instead, but to not throw away any of the already-cooked food since it was so expensive to make and to just reuse it somehow.

TINY UPDATES/ADDITIONS: Bethesda's main HQ is in Rockville, Maryland, not Baltimore. Article I used erroneously reported that. Bethesda later confirmed that the Scrapbox issue was way worse. It wasn't a UI bug, people actually did lose their scrap. The moldy death Power Armor helmet was a GameStop exclusive pre-order. Not many were sold, cuz they were for Fallout 76. Some guy bought the Falloutfirst domain, and is a parody site poking fun at Bethesda's....everything: falloutfirst.com/ Bethesda banned a fan/modder who tried to help them squash bugs.

Also there was the problem of Bethesda having to ban a player for sustained homophobic harassment, not their fault but still. Oh and the Cyber Monday price drop debacle. Then there was the time that a player got banned after they played for over 900 hours because they had too much ammo. Oh and the bobby pin problem where the bobby pins in game weighed way more than they do in real life so somebody sent Todd Howard some actual Bobby Pins with a note that said "weigh these."

Yep, been 9 months, and I still wish for a part 3. There were things that some people aren't aware of, and of course other flustercucks that everyone heard about, but it would still be hilarious to get a video summing them all up. Examples: - Physical retail editions being a cardboard disc with a download code on them. Imagine going to the store for that sweet, sweet collectible physical copy and having that frickin' CARDBOARD circle of garbage stare back at you when you open that case. Why the F would anyone want to go buy a cardboard download code when you can buy it digitally?! God almighty. - That guy who was banned for collecting too much ammo in-game? Say what you will about cracking down on cheaters, but when your 'anti-cheat' mechanisms take a game away from someone who PAID for it, who enjoyed the game enough to get that far and was not cheating... then demanding a mother-loving ESSAY to say why collecting too much ammo is bad in a series where you scavenge and craft? That is unforgivable, among the sea of unforgivable acts. - The guy banned for helpfully cataloging and reporting on in-game bugs? Jeezus, if they can't tell who their friends are, they're not going to survive. - New patches re-introducing old bugs that were previously fixed. - Old bugs not being fixed for 400+ days? (Instances of enemies being healed for half the damage dealt to them.) - Hackers spawning assets and NPCs from prior Fallout titles into the game? Hackers beat the devs in implementing NPCs! That's hilarious to me. - Or how about that time they couldn't figure out how people were getting into the dev room to take all those items, and tried to bribe those people who were banned with their accounts back? Tell me how you did it, pwetty pwease, tee hee, UwU~~. There are screenshots online of those e-mails. - The infamous inventory-stealing hack? There's some videos of people doing this. Goodbye legendary items you got from an abysmally low drop rate, from monsters with an abysmally low spawn rate! - That hilarious Fallout First website that a guy bought from under their nose? Did they REALLY advertise a web domain for their crappy subscription for a paid game, and not check that someone at their company actually acquired that domain first?! THAT twists the nipples of the soul. - Also, I still find it hilarious that in Australia, the ACCC had ordered ZeniMax to issue refunds. "ZeniMax has acknowledged that they are likely to have misled certain Australian consumers about their rights to a refund when they experienced faults with their Fallout 76 game," ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court said.

Fallout 76 was a tragedy, but a tragedy that didn't take out much of value with it, and that hopefully served as an example to the live service mill, which it does actually seem has kind of died down a bit. If it wasn't for Fallout 76 going down with such dramatic passion, we would have instead had to endure a much longer, slower downfall, I think, that may have taked down something actually worth mourning.

Fallout 3 isn't terrible as a game but the writing is atrocious compared to the first two games or NV. Fallout 4 is neat at first but then you gradually realize that it actually has even worse and lazier writing than 3 and the gameplay is just a bunch of unpolished concepts thrown together as if a handful of incomplete ideas somehow makes a complete game. Skyrim was fine when it first released, ignoring all the bugs, PS3 version was a disaster though, but after being rerereleased on literally every console with none of the major bugs ever fixed, it has aged like sour milk. Its writing is pretty bland and uninspired, as well.
@airless70055 жыл бұрын
@@RevyaAeinsett I disagree about fallout 4. It has a much better story than 3, being more open ended and player choice. Don't get me wrong, fo4s story has a lot of problems, but fo3s story is very linear. Plus, fo4 has great sidequests (The Silver Shroud, USS Constitution, The Devil's Due, etc.) I love fallout 3, but I feel nostalgia really clouds people's view on it. I respect your opinion, and would like to have a discussion
@RevyaAeinsett5 жыл бұрын
@@airless7005 Being able to choose between 4 terribly written factions does not in any way make FO4's writing better than 3's. Linearity does not make bad writing, there's more to the game than its main quest, and a few standout side quests doesn't make up for all the other problems. I would also point out that FO1 had a very linear story, and lacked much in the way of side quests, but it's widely regarded as the best written in the series, with NV being the most comparable. The player's choices in 4 are simplified down to: Yes, Yes(but sarcastically), Tell me more(but probably yes), and No(but probably yes later). Having more people to say yes to isn't what I would consider a good replacement for having _actual_ choices in 3 and NV. 3's writing may not be _better_ than 4's, but 4 is definitely a lot lazier. How many quests in 4 even have alternate outcomes? I can think of several in 3, but outside of choosing factions during the main quest and the occasional ability to reason with someone rather than killing them, I don't remember very many options to end a quest in more than one actually significant way in 4. I played 4 a _lot,_ even more than 3 probably, and I enjoyed them both well enough, but I'm not gonna pretend either of those games have anything more than mediocre writing at best. And that's not even touching on the _other_ problems.

I know this is years later, but Fallout 1st added many more advantages to paying players over F2P players. Just like the unlimited scrapbox, they added unlimited ammo box. Ammo weighs quite a bit in the game, so you can't stockpile on it as much with the limited stash space the game provides, and with every new update the enemies becoming more and more bullet spongy, which forces you to search for more junk/scrap, and craft more and more ammo. And that's just AMMO, we're talking about. Then there's camp building, crafting equipment, crafting consumables, grinding dailies and events for in-game currency, then wasting said currency on awful RNG, and so on, It just creates more busy work for non paying players. It seems to be Bethesda's entire scheme - create a problem, then sell the solution. They also added a personal tent for Fallout 1st players, which is basically a mini-camp you can place anywhere anytime, which provides you with your own personal scrapbox, a crafting bench, a cooking area, a bed etc (it's a survival game after all, so you usually need all this stuff very frequently). Most importantly this tent acts as you personal custom FREE fast travel point, so you can pop it in any area (say where you know valuable junk or food spawn, or where you know a specific rare vendor or legendary mob spawns) and fast travel there every time for free. Even later Bethesda added special world events that give the Fallout 1st players better rewards, than the F2P player. But people still playing this trash heap of a game are saying "it's not pay-to-win, it's PaY-fOr-CoNvEnIeNcE". I won't even go into the whole Atomic Shop money sink, with "limited time" items that create fake urgency, and have all the best looking camp building sets, decorations, power armor skins etc, which separates the paying vs. non-paying playerbase even more. It's a disgusting predatory game to this day. And the worst part is, if you look up any of the usual Fallout 76 YT channels and read the comments, people are completely delusional, they keep cheering on these scummy tactics by Bethesda and are jizzing in their pants when the same recycled repetative busy work is added every new update. I'm so glad I quit that game.
