Ironic how the later games changed the Vault Dweller walkout to be something that's supposed to be triumphant and badass, from the Lone Wanderer, to the Courier, and the Sole Survivor, when it once represented the Vault Dweller's fall from grace.

The tragic irony of it all: as much as the Vault Dweller may have changed the wasteland, the wasteland has changed him too. So there he was, thrown back to this broken world, filled with broken machines, broken buildings, broken dreams, and broken people. In a way, he was no different from that water chip the minute he stepped out of the vault. Broken, tainted, and undesired.

What if by letting the Dweller stay they all try and become heroes, and they all fail and die? The Dweller was lucky, there's no two shots about it, one well-aimed critical and your character's history even by the end of the game, imagine the kids flippant about how cool he is, thinking themselves immortal like all cocky teens are. The wrong one because the Dweller would have kept the Vault safe and the diplomacy with other settlements high. Had him be there by the start of FO 2, things would have been at least slightly different, and at most him curb-stomping the Enclave.
