Optimized ammo is the way to go, no reason to ever use anything else. Weighs less, does more damage, only slightly more degradation. Holorifle with optimized ammo does almost as much damage as gauss rifle, with less damage. The fact it keeps doing damage after, sometimes when they have a sliver just move on to the next target, they'll drop dead.

There's actually a bug that makes your Holorifle unbreakable once you attach a mod to it. In that case, max charge is the way to go if you really wanna tear ass.

I always wondered if it was just an upgraded and updated and a shotgun version of a Gauss Rifle. Gauss rifles shoot a projectile, using energy from MF cells. Holorifle shoots a projectile too, but the projectile seemed to be aligning with Sierra Madre Holotechnology making it shoot holographic projectiles instead 🤔

Similar to a shotgun but the design looks a lot more like a 40mm China lake grenade launcher. Basically if a m79 and a pump shotgun got a little to close and made a grenade launching shotgun
