the .50 sten came to be while i was trying to make a semi auto .45 sten to use one of the animations we had and while i was editing the barrel i though it looked vaguely like an M2 so i figured hey lets see if i cant try and make it a .50! also if you had any more suggestions for me to make it feel a bit more believable id love to hear em! while its not meant to be 1 to 1 true to life i do like the idea of the guns i nifbash being as believable as possible!

That's an interesting point of view. Using real guns and the physical realities that real guns must face to comment on the wrong kind of fictional gun design in a game, maybe later zack can comment on some examples of fictional gun design that can be referenced. Maybe in the future zack can comment on some examples of fictional gun design that can be used as a reference.

Blowback recoil firearms are only suitable for low recoil pistol ammo. If you use .50 BGM, you will get a lot of gas coming out of the chamber. If you want to make a .50 blowback recoil firearm look believable You'll need a very large recoil spring or recoil spring rod (also this usually makes loading difficult). Make the loaded animation longer, so it looks like the user has to put a lot of effort into loading the gun. Or make a large lever device (similar to m3 smg early model) so that users can load easily. Also make the bolt head carrier and receiver solid, use thick steel bars or structure to make it more solid, don't look like using thin metal water pipes, or else the recoil of the gun may break the whole gun when it fires. This is my opinion as a gun nerd nerd, don't take it too seriously because all opinions are hard work. Of course it should be a fun challenge to make a “game gun” that ZACK can live with and doesn't exist.

Calculators used to determine blowback bolt weights show a .50 BMG blowback needs a 54.3 pound bolt. So the spring to balance that out with a lighter bolt would be something like an adult go-kart strut spring..lol

@jimbothegymbro7086 Yes, you can use a lighter bolt with a heavier spring. The best way around all the mass and spring force is to just use a locked breech system and skip unlocked blowback.

There were several attempts at building 50bmg blowbacks, they all failed. The bolt would weigh around 45-55lbs, and it would be slamming backwards with the same amount of force that the bullet has coming out of the muzzel. A 50bmg has a muzzel output of more than 13,000 ft-lbs, which is why the 750gr bullet can go through several inches of steel. Think about what that means for the amount of force the 50lb bolt would be transferring backwards into the shooter. Even if the gun contained the force, it would have to weigh a couple hundred pounds to reduce the amount of recoil to a non-bone-breaking level. In a rifle that weighs 10lbs, a 13,000ft-lb recoil impulse would move the gun back 1300ft. Add a 180lb shooter, and that combined 200lbs of shooter plus gun weight gets tossed...65ft; that's lethal levels of force coming back at the shooter. It would shatter bones and rupture internal organs. Want to know why most 50 cal sniper rilfes weigh 25-35lbs? Because even in non-blowback systems that redirect the force of the recoil by venting the chamber before the bolt gets thrown backwards, the recoil is still massive. Most people cannot even shoulder a 50 cal sniper rilfe, those guns get shot from stationary positions with the gun sitting on a bi-pod; they often have muzzel breaks to reduce the recoil to levels that won't bruse your shoulder. I have fired 50cals, and you don't rapid fire because it's too painful. Even two consecutive rounds have several seconds of dely to get re-set on target. Most 50cals have a very heavy, and long trigger re-set. It's because if they have a short and light re-set, you might accidentally fire the gun a second time while the recoil of the first shot has moved you away from the gun. It's really easy to break your shoulder when this happens, which is why they have such heavy and long re-sets.

french small arms repairman here (who enlisted in that position mostly thanks to Zach ironically) the problem on the wooden FAMAS is that it makes the stock and rest of the gun one single piece, when in real life the stock needs to be taken apart extremely often just to change the ejection side on the weapon !

Here's a good hotkey idea. I usually put "primary" in the right position because, you would use those when it was going to carry around for "all-purpose" use. Close-range, like shotguns or smgs/spray-pray weapons would go left select. Because when you are in those situations you want the key to be as close to your thumb as possible. Sniper/hunting rifle, longer range goes up, melee or healing items goes down. Things I need faster go closer to my thumb, things that are more purposeful uses like grenade launchers, or combat chems go futher away from my thumb.

There are a lot of delayed blowback systems you could use to make something like this practical. At least, as practical as a shoulder fired .50 BMG can be. Although, the extractor in the side of the bolt does raise some questions. Sure, the real Sten is like that, but the real Sten bolt isn't that much bigger than the cartridge, so it works. For this gun, the extractor would have to a full on butter knife to work

If they're actually Outlaws, it's entirely legal (so long as your method of going about it doesn't involve doing anything that is illegal for other reasons). Being an outlaw explicitly means that you are not protected by the law. If you are an outlaw, anyone can murder you, take your stuff, Anything, and so long as the only way they're breaking the law is the harm they're doing to you, the law says 'yeah, that's fine, we don't care, they opted out of the whole 'being protected by the law' thing so it's not my problem'. I ChatGPT'd this so it might not be accurate, but apparently, for the .50 BMG STEN gun, the bolt alone would have to weigh at least 5 kilograms at the absolute minumum, and the spring would have to stiffness of 425,000 N/m. This is about 8-21 times stiffer than the suspension on an average car, and you'd need a hydraulic press just to chamber a god damn round, and your character just rips that back like it's nothing.

Official unofficial patch(YUP), 4gb patcher, NVSE, and JIP NVSE, as well as new vegas anti crash (NVAC). pretty much fixes all the problems I ever had with the game. Pretty much just got to most endorsed on the nexus and scroll through all the ones that boost performance
