I feel like a lot of the criticism is 'true hard-core fallout fans' tugging themselves off . As a casual fallout enjoyer, I quite enjoyed the series. I'm not slavering over 'omg, fallout sounds', but there's a fairly faithful adaption of the Bethesda series of fallout games (which have been around for over 15 years at present), and the plot holes leave scope for series 2 as well as asserting some of the Bethesda lore alluded to in previous games.

The NCR dont even look like the NCR. They wear "fast helmets" and MOTORCYCLE PADS. They look like raiders larping as NCR troopers. The Fallout show is the only piece of media I've seen in recent memory where you're being told by people who like it that you're supposed to simultaneously be taking it as canon and a faithful adaptation of the source material, but also shutting up and ignoring all the inconsistencies with it cause "hurr-durr, it's wacky Fallout, hyuck-hyuck-hyuck." The same people that hated the Halo show are praising the Fallout show. To me, they're too similar for the differences to matter. They both came off like half assed parodies making fun of something they don't fully understand, but know damn well how much they hate it and think negatively of people who do enjoy it. They both remind me of Disaster Movie and Superhero Movie, a couple of god awful parody movies making fun of other kinds of movies they disliked as well as mocking the fans of those kinds of movies. In summary, the only thing the Fallout show did that was good was introducing me to a bunch more content creators willing to push back on crappy entertainment-and getting me to wanna jump back into New Vegas to check out what mods have been made for it since the last time I played.

having seen the show i know what fallout 5 is going to be. here is the cliff notes. You are going to be a vault dweller in Northern California that leaves the vault to find their mom. After a while you run into the NCR remnants and have to save them from a group of raiders. They then point you to the town of San Fransisco that is in a struggle with the brotherhood of steal for some secret technology. You then have to build up settlements for the NCR remnants however as you do you come across one that was killed by the enclave. As you follow their trail you find that your mom has been taken by them. you track down their main base and then find that she is a commander in the enclave. You then either help them gain power in the region or have the BOS and NCR team up to nuke them.

And I reckon the reason is because it’s too hard for them to achieve that, either that; or they’re relying far too much on the gullibility of their fanbase and their brand to sell games for them these days In hindsight probably a bit of both; but the fact of the matter is, they’re more than willing to lie to our faces and say they love something when they certainly don’t for a paycheck. Look no further than how dismissively they treated NV in its development cycle and how little a time window they gave Obsidian to make it. They knew they’d have a mountain of bugs to fix because it’s Bethesda’s engine, they’re painfully aware of how buggy it is and often times they’re just too lazy to fix it, so they set Obsidian up for a fall and when they couldn’t perform to the standards set, what happened? That bonus that they were gonna give them for getting an 85 on Metacritic got pulled and they were on their own. AND YET despite the adversities that befell Obsidian during that time; they knuckled down, fixed as many bugs as they could while also delivering absolute banger tier DLC, and as a result it’s a masterpiece of a Fallout game to many. And why? Because they actually GAVE A SHIT. Todd, Emil and Bethesda don’t, it’s evident in how they carry themselves and how they treat the franchise. Ever since people adored New Vegas, we’ve been shit on passive aggressively and treated like the red headed stepchild of Bethesda’s community because we dared go against Todd’s status quo. But I’m fucking done dealing with that pompous prick and his fragile ego. Not only has he had a hate boner for New Vegas all this time, and treated the fallout community like shit as a result; he continued to throw a hissy fit by trashing the West Coast lore with this abysmal TV show. Personally; Microsoft needs to eject Todd and Emil from the company and put people in charge that aren’t biased towards their own work, and don’t harbor a grudge towards the writers who, yknow, WROTE THE FIRST TWO FUCKING GAMES. Because if they don’t, I’m certain Todd and Emil are gonna cost Microsoft millions when the community at large has enough of their lies and bails like some of us in the minority have already. I know for a fact I’m not giving Bethesda another fucking cent until they fix what they’ve broken in their current games, and start listening to us as a community going forward. Capitalist lady sell Vaults to rich people, and prepare to repopulate the post apocalypse with only super manager programmed from the rich vault dweller, while the other evil capitalists use the vaults to torture poor people with sick experiments, they destroy the world in nuclear Armageddon and realize their plan to become the ultimate monopoly. But we discover that communist lady now the raider queen kidnapped Lucy's father because he is in reality one of Vault tec low rank assistant super managers, who has the secret codes for her stolen infinite energy, and she loves Lucy dearly because she an her mom fell in true love and escaped the Vault to live in Shady sands. Lucy's father find out and destroys the city with a nuclear bomb to get back Lucy, because that's the super managers way to deal with problems, but communist lady survives and becomes the raider queen and also the goddess of all the survivors that adore and worship her, her beloved Lucy's mom survives too but as a feral ghoul. We also see pre war flashbacks of the ghoul that was an anti communist actor married to evil capitalist lady, but then he meets pre war communist lady that tells him how evil is capitalism and his wife and he is converted to the truth. Lucy's eyes are finally open to the truth but then bullies in power armor show up and attck to steal the magic infinite energy, evil supermanager dad escapes but communist lady dies a hero finally giving the power to the people, and that's season 1" Q: "so is this like an Austin Powers parody?" A: "no, no! is serious social commentary, and also offical Fallout canon" Q: "No more China?" A: "No, not at all, but there is a lot of funny incest, weird sex scenes, game references and of course cool power armor and atomic explosion, and is universally praised as a 10/10 super masterpiece". I wouldn't even call the gameplay "boring" despite its flaws such as the bad shooting when aiming many of the weapons. The problem is, yes, the story but also the design of the game often being the Bethesda nonsense of "go here shoot at/talk to this and come back". That's why people believe the "gameplay" is as boring and bad as they do. Because for that system to work, the act of "go here shoot/talk to X" has to be more complex and better functioning than it is. New Vegas has such a fantastic world and story that the gameplay's flaws (such as the shooting still often being archaic) can be overlooked entirely even by its biggest critics - for example. Its also why fallout 4's many, many, many (many) flaws *can* get overlooked, because the shooting is better so its *easier to* enjoy an act that would otherwise be mundane (such as shooting generic enemies).

I think more people need to take the perspective that this is a Fallout story and apply that logic to what they see on screen. Act as if you're watching a video game play out. Sure, call out any lore issues or plot holes as necessary (I'm perfectly reasonable here). But to suggest that characters being in the right place at the right time merely by happenstance is somehow unprecedented would be doing the games themselves an injustice. They would get obliterated if we tried to apply this logic and would immediately be dismissed as nothing more than one long and drawn-out inevitable contrivance. Every game has a vault dweller who becomes the alpha god of their environment, which is obviously stupid if we want to be this literal. Anyway.....just sayin.

Whereas Hank even got the opportunity to travel past where the actual Shady Sands (since to my knowledge shady sands wasn’t too far from The Highway going through the divide) would’ve been in California to reach North Vegas by the way he did instead of more reasonably travelling the I15 to get to South Vegas, all in what seems to be a day or evening just in power armour given how fresh his wound seems to be and the time of day. Tis all probably a nitpick again but I do feel the logistics are a valuable tidbit :].

The Cold Fusion McGuffin in the Fallout Show makes no sense. Fallout 2 clearly points out that cold fusion was already in widespread use before the bombs dropped. The Garden of Eden Creation Kit, aka GECK, was powered by cold fusion. Moldaver would have known that, but the writers obviously didn't play or at least researched the older games. In my opinion, I agree with the theory that Bethesda hates the West Coast lore. The Master is the ultimate boogeyman for the entire NCR lore. Yet by the events of the show. He's not mentioned, and there's no Supermutants. It's almost as if the Master never existed. The Enclave somehow still exists, yet they never send their soldiers to recover the stolen tech. The gun turret firing would have alerted the entire base. Ghouls are given the Walking Dead treatment. Ghouls are mutants that are highly resistant to radiation. They are not zombies. Feral ghouls are victims of their brains degrading to the point of baser instincts. Similar to animals infected with rabies. Ferals are a hazard because of their numbers and lack of self-preservation. But Chicken Lover has a vile of Ghoul juice that can reattach bones and muscles. Because reasons.

I know shit about the lore but the characters alone are enough to say the show isn't great Judging it on its own as a standalone product Wilzig has the appearance of a character at first until it turns out he's just a quest giver/plot device the whole time puppeted by the script/convenience Maximus is super unlikable, constantly fails upwards and has some baffling logic when it comes to word choice / character motivation his poor writing especially brings down other characters and scenes (i.e. Lucy tries to equate her perceived self defense to maximus letting titus die when they are absolutely not the same, she was justified, maximus is a monster.) Lucy feels like they want her to be the naive, golly gee, happy-go-lucky vault dweller new to the world throughout the show but all the reactions to events are off. The tramatic event in the first episode should already effect how she approaches stuff on the surface but it doesnt, she wants to talk to a ghoul killing people but is apprehensive to the one person who tried to save her etc. The ghoul i think is least fucky but thats because he doesnt seem tied down to anything. He just suffers from poor plot/script/world building And that's not to mention every character should be dead multiple times over but is saved by convenience. Also the show manages to character assassinate a dog, a dog saved and raised by a character that dies due to injuries sustauned by another character. those injuries lead the dog to attack the attacker, get injured, later healed and then the attacker is the dogs new best friend

Interesting things that the show tried to have in it's plot but failed: - Brotherhood being an army and having classic army problems like people failing upwards and bullying among the lower ranks - Power armor not making it's wearer invulnerable and even facilitating injuries if used incorrectly (I actually thought Fitus fucking died when he fell on that rock, because it would make a lot of sense for the way it happened to result in him snapping his neck on the internals of the armor, effectively killing himself with his own suit) - The idea of Maximus suddenly being presented with an opportunity to try and be a knight. Imagine if he wasn't directly at fault for killing Tutus and had to don the armor due to direct orders of the brotherhood. The jig is up, he has a chance to jump up in rank at least temporarily but that would involve him braving the wasteland that he was sheltered from by the brotherhood and forced to make decisions that a good knight would make. Like that time he took sides in the "chicken diddler" scene. That was supposed to have caught him that he doesn't always know what's right and to wait before he makes desisions. He then proceeds to barge into Fully in the middle of a shootout and immediately take sides. Retard. - Maximus and his bully that was now his squire. Imagine the dynamic they could gave built up if Maximus actually was good to him this whole time. If they played theur cards right then any payoff to the reveal would have been great. Squire doesn't take Maximus' side? Shows that some lies can't be forgiven. Squire does take his side? Shows how kindness trumps any indoctrination and that at the end of the day Lucy's golden rule does indeed work. But fuck it, let's have him both refuse to act better that Titus would AND try to be friends with his squire. And then let's make him try to kill the squire. And then let's make the squire leave him for dead in a depowered power armor. - Demonstrably small gene pools and genetic diversity within the vaults leading to normalization of incest as "training" for future breeding. Wouldn't be a problem in an OG fallout vault because those were fucking huge, but in Bethesda fallout they're always the size ofva small dungeon and apparently narratively implied to be bigger but not shown to be. - Maximus being sheltered when it comes to sex while Lucy being completely normalized about it to the point of discussing sperm counts over dinner and offering sex to a borderline random guy while inside a room with a window they cannot cover facing a dining hall of the vault. A little subtlety would have made it a poignant moment. - Mister House being present in the room while the vault plan is discussed. Imagine if revealed out on those idiots telling them exactly what a reasonable person would say and they'd be like "okay nobody tell him about The Plan". The plan is still retarded but it would be so easy not to fuck up Mister House because of how omega-based he is. They just didn't want to. They did if deliborately. - NCR remnants. I think it would have been pretty cool to see NCR Rangers turn into a glorified gang lead hy a guy that declared himself President because since no one else is alive to claim this title and his country is no more, then he might as well become the damn President. If only they actually handled the fall of NCR appropriately, because NCR could have fallen as a country for sure. It could have had a civil war and destroy itself with nukes, leaving remaining citizens fractured and disgruntled. But nah, vault-tec done did it! Le capitalism! FFS. - The Enclave. If only that basevwas a remnant base that managed to survive by isolating itself and then reimerged after The NCR fell, that would have been interesting kinda. The Enclave cpuld have existed post F2 or even F3, I know a whole reddit greentext that proves it, which I highly recommend. But bruh, not like this. This show is a writer's equivalent of EDGING. Each episode has several moments where I was like "ahhh, I see where they're going with this" but instead the show slaps me and and yells "NO! WE ON THAT RETARDED SHIT, BITCH! EAT SHIT AND DIE!"

Do you mean the line where Lucy says "...the triennial trade with Vault 32?" If so, that means "every three years." However, your point still stands. They are at the very least meeting up to marry into each other's vaults every 3 years. That means there should be members of Vault 32 in Vault 33 right now, and it would be very strange that they don't instantly recognize these people walking into Vault 33 who are strangers. The entire ambush plot falls apart from there.

As someone who grew up on New Vegas I disagree. The NCR is not destroyed, though it was even noted in New Vegas by Mr. House to have been on the decline. The show takes place 15 years after New Vegas, the remnants of the NCR troops at Shady Sands were not regs and appeared more to be militia than NCR Army Proper. The 2277 drama is based on a complete misinterpretation. The NCR also was destined to fail in the Mojave unless the Courier specifically chose to side with them, and the fact they are still in conflict with the BoS means the Courier likely went the Independent Vegas route which was the most likely canon ending of the game. Most of my hardcore Fallout NV and 2 purist friends even agree with me that people are being dumb about all this, the show didn't decanonize anything either, nor did it retcon anything. Just because it didn't canonize your specific ending to New Vegas doesn't mean its bad. Bethesda has its numerous amount of problems, but I gotta give credit where credit is due, the first episode was meh outside of the opening scene, but the rest of the series was great.

Todd howard originally said that fallout: tactics wasn't canon, so we are justified in saying that this show isn't canon, Maximus's power armor locks up without a fusion core, yet this never happens in 4, people don't need power armor training which was introduced in fallout 3, the enclave doesn't care about their escaped precious technology, doesn't even try to retrieve it, turret misses every shot, scientist's dog exists to be a "dogmeat" figure, no ending in new vegas results in what we've seen in the show, in the wild card ending, it says that new vegas remains the independent power of the mojave, and there is order, of course it doesn't matter what ending is canon, because bethesda will write away new vegas by any means, even if the NCR ending is canon, Emil can just say that the courier grows evil, and sabotages the NCR, turning on them, destroying the economy and vegas as we knew it, the point is that these things don't just happen, they're written

@@MLPDethDealr32 No it wouldnt have because Van Buren was a completely different story but still retained the idea that the player would eventually encounter a war torn NCR that was nuked to oblivion because the devs wanted it. They wanted the NCR to canonically make too many enemies which would have forced it into constant war. Van Buren would have been New Vegas, but not the vegas that is memorable to us to this day, and it wouldn't have been any better than what we have now because New Vegas also ends up being destroyed in the conflicts that the NCR brought upon it in Van Buren canon. Also, Joshua Graham wouldn't have been the same character either. He was meant to be more evil in Van Buren whereas in HH he's just a man trying to redeem himself.

Fallout 4 and it's consequences have been a disaster for the fallout community and storyline the show is just the natural outcome of the direction they took with fallout 4, And unfortunately i don't think they're going to change that direction. The series isn't being made for people like us anymore, it's being made for Tourists and "quirky" millenials who find butthole jokes absolutely hillarious at the age of 30 So many of my friends seem to praise this show as phenomenal and a "tribute to the fanbase", and i really don't understand how they can say that. They've retconned and ruined so much established lore and the art style looks terrible. I knew it was going to be an absolute mess after i saw how they were planning on using fallout 4's art style for the props.

This is sad. I love Fallout. I love the lore, the characters, the stories, and the emotions that I have gotten from the series. I can't think of a game franchise that I want to come back to over and over again just to read/watch/listen to. It's a shame that instead of a world filled with different kinds of stories and themes, we got a theme park ride with overpriced tickets that require you to turn off your brain and just enjoy the world (or how horribly destroyed it is). Seriously, how the hell did nobody tell them about the goddamn MASTER in the LA! Who decided to put the entrance to the vault above the ground! Why did they do that? Looking at the writers I can see how fucked this lore is going to be. I am 100% sure that none of them care about games as a medium. God fucking damn, one of the writers on this show (who is also apparently a co-creator) was a writer on the god forsaken Captain Marvel... I refuse to accept anything as canon from now on). ok, here's how I'd fix this change the setting to texas so that the locations don't conflict with established lore. replace the brotherhood with ceasars legion since that's what they are portrayed as in the show get rid of the stupid vault tec plan entirely make the ghoul the main character and not declare the show officially canon so that if it still ends up being crap it won't damage the games.

I just realized another point. Nukes don't leave craters cause they're air burst and even when they hit the ground they don't cause a crater like that. for that to happen it already has to be underground and ontop of that it wouldn't have been able to shift that much earth AND still have the destructive force required to destroy the boneyard cause fuck the show its the boneyard not shadysands

Bethesda did what they did to the elder scrolls, which is sad if you consider the fact that Emil wasn't a lead writer for that series. I am convinced that this is a problem with the entirety of their writing team. Of course, that being said we're talking about thw show and oh boy... if you told me that this was written by Bethesda's writing team then I would believed you. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Todd was said to be a fan of the original games which is what drove him to suggest they buy the IP, of course I believe this to be a cope fueled lie as if you were a fan, then you wouldn't make a bastardization of this IP. Like say The vaults being right next to the Master's cathedral. I haven't played that much of 1 or 2... mainly because they keep kicking my ass so I didn't notice this when I watched the show. Now I can't help but wonder if they are trying to retcon the master out of existence. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. It honestly seems like this show was made out of hate and spite. Whether or not the show was make out of spite the writing is just shit. Like how the fuck does radiation make you almost unkillable? It's fucking stupid. There's no tension what so ever, even without the fucking jokes making a mess of everything, there are very little stakes, which the show ruins with the constant deus ex machina to pull their shitty ass characters, which might I add everyone with a brain wants them to die horribly, so because of this, why should we care if a character is in danger, we know that they're not going to die. If you like this show then honestly look at yourself because I genuinely believe that being a fan of this show is more embarrassing then being a furry. Keep up the great work Emily!

Not since Highlander: The Source have I seen a piece of media where it feels like they made a list of everything iconic people know and love about the original, and then made something with the goal of systematically destroying all of it and pissing on the remains. The Fallout TV show is Emil Pagliarulo showing us all how butthurt he is that Fallout New Vegas upstaged his horrid writing back in 2010, and continues to do so to this very day.

But even then, it still lore-conflicts with either it's own lore from prior episodes, or from how Ghouls work in fallout 3/4 and then this show, etc. etc. On it's own without any fallout relevance? 4/10, maybe a 5/10. Include Bethesda's own games? possibly the same raiting, maybe less. And then we have WITH fallout 1, 2 and NV, it's like a 2 or 3 out of 10. I'd rather watch The Room, or Twilight, than the Fallout TV show.

Show is not bad when, you don’t think to much when watching it, played only fallout 4 and maybe 3 on premiere and remember only that BoS exists, being intoxicated and watching it all late at night would also help.

We could expected as much. I did expect as much. Think about how Bethesda treats any government in their own games. Take Fallout 4. The minutemen. Annihalated. The CPG. Annihalated. Anything that resembles a functioning rebuilding society is destroyed by Bethesda, because it doesn't fit their post apocalypse themepark setting.

Honestly should have made the show an anthology make every season or hell every episode a different survivor of the wasteland going through it. Could even tell stories from the terminals like the survivalist and other stories of vaults going to disarray that’s how I’d do it

1:44:58 Fallout 1 We see Shady Sands when it was a small village. Fallout 2 Shady Sands now the capital of the NCR. Fallout New Vegas The NCR is one of the major factions. "Fallout" 4 Kellog is from San Francisco NCR. This is the 4 game am I right? In the unfortunatelly never finished original Fallout 3 under project name "Van Buren", it was planned to feature the NCR aswell.
