Fallout T-51b Power Armor Cosplay Build Log

This costume was built from repurposed EVA interlocking foam floor mats. Hot glue was the adhesive. Plastidip was applied to the foam before painting. Sprays used include Rustoleum Aluminum Silver, Champagne Mist, Hunter Green, and Matte Black. Weathering used acrylic black, morning silver, raw sienna, and canary yellow.

Agreed. I've since added shoulder webbing to the back that attaches to the front of my belt so it won't slouch down. Cod piece now sits in front of the chest armor, actual finger armor now, not just grey winter gloves, hoses that i didn't originally have time for. The Plasma Rifle that was available from EB/Gamestop. It's seen plenty of changes, I'll have to make an update video here at some point.

Cheers Chris. But really it wasn’t a talent required project. This was my first and so far only attempt at an outfit. Heat Gun, glue gun, utility knife, sharpie, metal ruler, Walmart Eva floor mats, plastidip, metalic spay paints, a dremel, and most importantly... KZbin tutorials. We can all build this.

Hi I’m also making a suit of power armor based off the helmet I got and was wondering if you could help with a problem I’m having. I’m having trouble seeing out the helmet and moving my head around. I’m only able to look left and right and unable to walk properly due to lack of visibility. Any advice?

i encountered this issue on the day, I realized the quickest solution was to add pilot holes to the helmet beneath the visor. I typically wouldn't deface a collectors item but in this case i made an exception. The pilot holes ended up being pretty subtle though so i don't regret it. I've just shared an image of my hole placement via my twitter account "at"nickportman The holes are in the "tear duct" area and are a little bit larger than the circumference of a pencil.

I’m 6’4”. I was shooting for 1:1 but who knows :) I did add 4” of height to the boots. That plus the helmet has me close to 7’ walking around.

@@bloo_cookies7007 the front torso is in two parts, the green upper chest, made from one square eva foam mat with cutting and gluing to make it have the rounded edges. The bottom (belly) that’s a band that wraps around me, the front of the band has that black detailing and links to the green chest at the top with Velcro.

Joe Dillings thanks Joe. I imagine you will surprise yourself. The black wash step hides so many errors, and based on the fact we want our armor to look “rough” as apposed to pristine, there is a lot of wiggle room for craftsmanship that might start off on the sloppy side.
