Given ThreeDog plays whatever he was able to find intact, I always thought Bethesda missed a trick by not having a few records hidden accross the game that add songs to the radio station if turned in to the radio station.

The Soil Stradivarius is a real life violin that has survived and actually exists. It was made in 1714 by Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari of Cremona (1644-1737). It is one of 700 known existent Stradivari instruments. The instrument was made during Stradivari's "golden period" and is named after the Belgian industrialist Amédée Soil who owned it.

Jus reminds me of a Meat Loaf song when he is talking about his father but playing a Stratocaster instead of a Stradivarius "I remember everything! I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday. I was barely seventeen and I once killed a boy with a Fender guitar I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster, but I do remember that it had a heart of chrome and a voice like a h***y angel! I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster, but I do remember that it wasn't at all easy. It required the perfect combination of the correct power chords, and the precise angle from which to strike."

And speaking of really dark disturbing locations, lets not overlook Springvale Elementary with all the little skeletons in cages. Tangentially-related-at-best rant. apologies ahead of time... It's weird to me, when FO3 came out almost everyone seemed to enjoy it- the occasional joke about the main quest being linear, but otherwise everyone pretty much seemed to agree it was a hell of a lot of fun and frankly a masterpiece when it comes to resurrecting old, dead franchises. And when NV came out, everyone derided it as a buggy mess. But now, if you go into Fallout communities, almost the only thing you'll hear is about how NV is the best game that was ever created, Fallout 3 is utter dogshite, Bethesda can't write, and any MINOR flaw or bug in NV is due to Bethesda screwing over Obsidian. I don't get why this occurred. Why can't people just enjoy all of the Fallouts?

Quests like these are my favorites in any game - I don't need some big mechanical reward like a new weapon or armor or magic item or whatever because it's likely I'm going to get something better somewhere else and/or can craft something better myself (depending on the game). No, the real fun are the quests with an interesting story, unique characters to interact with, and a resolution makes a direct change in the world. It's far more satisfying for me as a player to see that radio station listed on my pipboy than seeing a gun I'll never use taking up weight in my inventory could ever be, plus it adds depth to the world because there is a measureable change not just for me but for everyone else as well showing that my actions actually affect things.

Strangely that kind of makes sense. In the post apocalypse, she probably only knew 1-2 musical pieces and had a violin already that could play them. Would you rather have a violin that plays those 1-2 pieces and sounds better than your existing one? Or would you rather receive entirely new music that you can add to your repertoire? One just enhances the music you've been playing a bit, the other doubles your musical repertoire with something wholly new.

When the weather was nice she'd do her lessons outside on the front deck area, which again is a nice thing for kids. However, she started her classes at 6:00 AM in the morning. If you've never been startled awake at 6:00 AM in the morning by some kid's screeching, out of tune violin while they attempt to strangle out a twisted and disturbed version of Hot Cross Buns consider yourself lucky 😂 So, ya, the violin quest has always been a bit more of a struggle to decide how to end than it would seem for most people commenting here 😁

The thing I love about Vault 92, and stories about mind control in general, is the the horror of the phantom motive. Not one Vault 92 resident wanted any violence what so ever and we’re some the most peaceful people in the US. Making the fate of some of them a tragedy. But what I also love is the implications: a group escaped from the open door, Agatha’s ancestor died herself, and one that I think is tenuous but love the idea of; the overseer became infected himself. The hole story is very scary but in a fun sort of dreadful way. I also got to give it props for being flooded, since for what seems like one very few times did a Vault fail and have another thing happen.

Just to add a hopeful note to Vault 92, there's nothing suggesting that the Deathclaws were already inhabiting Old Olney assuming that any survivor(s) of the Vault managed to get out. Considering that, based on the presence of fortifications plus the Official Game Guide noting that Old Olney's outskirts were already picked clean by scavengers, it's very likely that the town was inhabited or became a scavenger hub at some point prior to 2277 (the dead mercenary in the Olney sewers suggests mercenaries may have also used the town as a hub), plus the lore of Vault 92 suggests everything occurred only about a few years or decades after the Great War, with the Deathclaws coming in later. Something that adds to this is the presence of the ghouls in Broken Steel when you enter Old Olney underground: the Official Game Guide notes that the ghouls were seeking to create their own settlement as a rival to Underworld, coupled with the leader of the group being a former follower of Roy Phillips who thought Roy was too ambitious in trying to take over Tenpenny Tower. Notably, Sanders, the leader, noted that Old Olney was uninhabited and was surprised to find that there were no raiders like in the surrounding countryside (unaware that the raiders throughout the game have ambient dialogue referencing recruits meeting "monsters" with "claws of death" to the north, suggesting they suspect Old Olney is inhabited by Deathclaws), and the fact the ghouls were able to set up a camp plus fortifications suggests that there wasn't heavy Deathclaw activity until they hit the storeroom/generator room, where you can find egg piles and meat larders set up for the babies. Lastly, once you finish Shock Value, Three Dog does a special broadcast mentioning how people are aware that Old Olney is a "Wasteland legend" and points out the Deathclaws, citing how he met a scavver named Johnny 12 Fingers who managed to survive a Deathclaw attack while trying to comb the ruins, losing an arm in the process. My guess is that Old Olney became a scavenger's hub at some point after the War, with the scavvers likely hiring mercenaries for backup: this lasted for a good amount of time before Deathclaws wiped them out and decided to set up a nest in the generator room. As to why the ghouls decided to go to Old Olney and Three Dog having to mention that the place is filled with Deathclaws, given how far north it is, it's likely that the town being wiped out didn't become public knowledge until much later, while the Deathclaws only came out on occasion to hunt and bring food for the chicks, staying in the storeroom. That was the case, until the ghouls accidentally disturbed the nest, causing the Deathclaws to swarm out, eventually leading to them permanently inhabiting the sewers and town surface to protect the nest and ward off any threats or scavvers thinking the spot was still good to comb. This would also explain why Dave thought it was a good idea to establish the New Republic of Dave should he lose: he would think that the Deathclaws hadn't been inhabiting the town permanently and were just opportunistically hunting in and around the area. For everyone else, particularly the raiders, Old Olney became something of an urban legend, a place that is mysteriously uninhabited with only the reports of monsters suggesting any signs of life in the town. TL;DR the Deathclaws likely showed up in Old Olney long after anyone managed to get out of Vault 92, Old Olney was likely a scavenger's hub/site that got wiped out, the Deathclaws took over the generator rooms in the Old Olney underground and lived there while going out on occasion to hunt and bring food for their nest, and the reason the town proper is swarming with Deathclaws is because the ghouls pissed them off and they're only up there to make sure no one goes near the nest, so it's likely that there is a possible happy ending for any Vault 92 survivors rather than getting eaten by Deathclaws.

Fallout 4 did have a few dialogue choices that mattered but they are extremely rare. One example is that at abernathy farm you can tell a grieving father that his daughter deserved to die and he will never speak to you again, making his quest and therefore his settlement unobtainable.
@Corundrom

I mean, not completely unobtainable, as you can still always kill everyone to take it by force, but yes, it does lock you out of the "peaceful"(kill 'evil' instead) solution

We actually know from broken steel that old Olney actually hasn't been a deathclaw nest until recent history, most people actually aren't even aware of the deathclaws in the town. Meaning, when the vault would have opened and the people left, The town would have been empty ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Blackhawk revolver was arguably more useful in Fallout3 propper. It was the unique .44 Revolver, has no spread and better damage than Lincoln's Repeater. Plus, it has a scope. It is a sniper pistol. On a personal note, the first firearm I purchased was a Ruger Blackhawk revolver in .357 Magnum. They are closer to the .357 Revolver in New Vegas than the Blackhawk in FO3. The Blackhawk in FO3 is more close to a Ruger Super Redhawk.

I was hoping you’d show this off!! One of the funner fetch quests. It’s also interesting to the world building, imagining how lost an art of music would be in the post apocalypse. Also how cool would it be if there was a companion in a Fallout game who was incredibly peaceful til they hear that white noise. Or tie a hidden backstory through the personal reputation and they reveal the horrible things they found out they did once the noise stopped they would share with the PC

Wasn't Old Olney an actual settlement until fairly recently in Fallout 3? I guess it's possible people from the Vault actually founded it or at least joined up...and then Deathclaws.

I think it's so delightlfully "Fallout" that the box of ammunition and "odds and ends" (that Agatha has kept under a desk in her one room house) contains a mini-nuke. That's just been sitting quietly in a locker footlocker for a couple of years.

Someone had to survive the vault and escape. Agatha's ancestor owned the violin, so at the very least her existence, let alone her knowledge of the violin suggests a small group got out and past Old Olney

Agatha said the violin belonged to her great grandmother's friend. Said friend accepted an invitation to the vault before the war, and that's the last Agatha knew of it. Nothing there to suggest anyone ever left the vault.

I feel like, in some ways, selling the violin to the museum in Rivet City is a more moral option, because it's basically one of the only museum in the Fallout world at this point and it's in one of the safest settlements. It's much more likely to be preserved for future generations than if it's in the hands of an old defenseless lady in the boondocks.
@RinIsArty

I find it quite funny how there's absolutely no real reason to sell the violin. 300 caps is basically worthless, not "incredibly valuable" like it's described, or indeed, is in real life.

This is my favorite quest in the entire Elder Scrolls / Fallout series. The first time I discovered and completed it, it made me genuinely emotional in a way that few games outside of Horizon: Zero Dawn have. Agatha is a really fun character for all sorts of reasons, she fits perfectly into the wasteland, and she sends you to a dungeon that I (as an amateur musician) find to be pretty close to what I'd imagine "hell" to be. Seriously, there are more entries from residents than the one Jon highlighted in that vault... they're not a fun read. But it's the reward for completing the quest that's special. Because whenever you turn on the radio, you get a reminder of what you've accomplished. More than any other quest I can think of, this one feels less like "advancing the plot" and more like you've actually made a tangible difference to the wasteland. It's an incredible feeling to have in a game like this. Compare that to, say, "Blood Ties", and you can see why "Agatha's Song" is my favorite quest, while "Blood Ties" (which has you interfere in the outcome of two separate and completely shallow societies filled with unlikeable people and see absolutely no consequence as a result of it) is at the other end of the scale. ...And yes, I did once sell the Soil Stradavarius to Abraham Washington during an "evil run". It felt bad.

While vault 11 is probably still the number one evil vault in fallout history this one is certainly sinister and times of they were taking innocent musicians under the pretense of preserving music and then using that to turn them into super super soldiers in the strictest sense they lose all sense of self-preservation. Could be wrong I think it's the only mind control experiments in fallout that actually works.

I wouldn’t be surprised whatsoever by Vault 92 escapees meeting their end in Old Olney because my first time there can basically be summed up as “WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE SO MANY DEATHCLAWS HERE?!” If I barely made it out of that with the mid-to-high level equipment I had, there ain’t no way fresh vault people would stand a chance.

Perhaps Geener Pastures is a reference to Love Canal, NY? A community was 'unknowingly' build on top of a chemical disposal location resulting in adverse biological effects in young children from the chemicals in the water. There's no obvious community in Fallout 3, but it is a nationally known ecological disaster.
