Have a mission where you run around using terminals to activate The Enclaves defenses, killing Liberty Prime, leading to a final battle against Lyons in the control room. Then you've got a similar interaction with Autumn where you have to figure out who goes into the chamber to activate Project Purity.

Maybe have you do the quest in reverse, from the purifier to the Citadel, and having the player upload some proximity program to reboot prime before he gets to the Purifier. Then have the same type of showdown like you said with Lyons instead of Autumn. Would also set up some nice DLC of the Outcasts trying to take the power vacuum left by the Brotherhood's defeat before the Enclave do. And let you pick a side. I wish F3, with how great it was, gave you a little more freedom of choice

One small thing in MATN's playthroughs is he never talks over the other characters during dialogue. I never really noticed how nice this was as I've been following MATN since the FO3 Kill Everything era, but after watching other youtubers who do, it's a welcome change. Keep up the great work Jon!

Jon, the flowers on Zax are Daffodil... Daffodils are the symbol of fight against cancer in a tiny easter european state of Slovakia. The level designer, who put those flowers there was slovakian. They symbolize the idea, that all Ghouls and Super Mutans are ugly cncerous growth, which president Eden is trying to erradicate. That's why there are exactly those flowers!

It's also appropriate that Autumn has the ZAX self-destruct sequence considering his relatively recent series of irreconcilable issues with Eden. It makes perfect story sense he would have tried to find it out, as he would be able to cause a coup at any point. He seems like the kind of person to have insurance in most things he does. It's even shown when he's caught in the purifier the first time.

4:49 I've always been under the assumption that Malcolm misunderstood the prompt for the line "Now, Colonel". The way it's said in game makes the scene feel a little off- I think the emphasis was supposed to be on the "NOW" to show that Eden is saying "no, you're going to report to my office NOW" rather than his like, gentle scolding tone. Could be wrong though.

37:34 There is actually a reason why the deathclaw doesn't attack the player. The reason is that even though in game deathclaws are just mostly violent monsters, lore-wise (and a couple of in-game examples) deathclaws are actually quite intelligent and are not only logical but reasonable creatures as well. For instance in Fallout 4 the mother doesn't totally murder the player if you bring her egg back to her. My point is that if the deathclaw in the cage observed the enclave using the terminal to lock the door it could deduce that when you used the terminal and the door opened you were the one who let it out.

Agreed, it's also humorous that killing Anna by a good ol' fashioned bullet to the brain gives no evil karma, BUT convincing a rogue AI to self destruct with her still inside (along with a bunch of other noncombatant scientists too presumably) gives no evil karma.

I also feel like the base having minor explosions on the way out isn't a result of the overall self destruct but rather essentially a civil war going on between the humans and robots in Raven Rock including extreme amounts of open weapons discharge. Gotta imagine that would cause SOME damage. Even if you've set the base to self destruct, I think the minor explosions are unrelated. Who builds a self destruct that destructs with a bunch of minibombs and THEN a big bomb? I am thinking it's the combat, followed by the ACTUAL self destruct mechanism which only goes off as you leave the base (which of course as Jon mentions, doesn't occur if you didn't set it to blow).

Eden belives you were born in vault 101 and so immune to the FEV vial, you were in fact born in rivet city and therefore exposed to radiation and not "pure". If you go through with eden's plan, aqua pura becomes lethal to you in broken steel. Basically even if you go fully along with eden's plan, after the end of the game you will realise that Eden's plan will actually kill you too lol. Maybe the enclave learns you are a mutant too.

Hey Jon, if and when you do point lookout, I have this little experiment for TTW. I'm wondering if you old world blues first with this mod, don't reatach your brain, then do point lookout and do the quest where you get a slice of your brain removed, does TTW actually account for that, or while it be handwaved with "Oh your entire brain wasn't removed you still have bits and pieces" or will there just be a piece of tesla coil instead. I don't own Fallout 3 and I use a whole lot of other mods for FNV so I can't do this myself.

Thank you man, its great to see a runthrough of Fallout 3 like you did for New Vegas with the J.E Sawyer mod playthrough. All those little out of the way places like the McClellan family home, the decapitated guy with the note, the Shelter room, the ghoul researching scientists, the unmarked graves quest, etc. I spent just under 900 hours in a single playthrough of Fallout 3 on my PS3. The save file was too big for the PS3 and it froze every 20 minutes, but I still kept playing and loved it. Collected every item, completed every quest, and found every single little secret the devs put into the game. There's so many things throughout the Capitol Wasteland that people skip right over and I loved tracking them all down. So thank you, Jon, for showcasing all these awesome little bits. I'm so happy they get to be shown off!!

It's one of the strengths of Fallout 3 for me over New Vegas. All these little things to just discover if you are of an explorer mindset. Latter felt more like a guided tour to me as just following the logical chain of quests will take you to like 80% of the map. And 19% it doesn't take you towards just has nothing of interest going on in it like Rail Stations with nothing but trash in it or a cabin that has a star bottlecap and nothing else of interest or even story.

Autumn gets "killed" during the original purifier incident but survives - then he shows up in Vault 87 by coming in through the front door aka the originally heavily irradiated entrance to the vault that no human can survive... so either he has an infinite amount of Rad X and Radaway or he is capable of withstanding high amounts of radiation that no human is capable of surviving... because he's not human... I think Colonel Autumn is a synth!

And more importantly with regards to the FEV, Eden is a big fat liar. If you put the FEV into the purifier and start the post game DLC, drinking three bottles of Aqua Pura will kill you. And it's probably because while you grew up in a vault you weren't BORN in the vault and neither were any of your post war ancestors presumably. So chances are likely you as a character have some minor mutations inherited from your parents, picked up right after your birth before you were in the vault, or picked up after you left the vault. Eden is probably assuming you're 100% vault dweller.

The mod removing the 300 rads a second from that door I guess is kinda cool that it lets you explore that area, but still feels kinda iffy to change something that major. I think there are good and bad ways to do it. A story can begin to feel artificial if the player has total agency (and many people criticize Bethesda for their games revolving around the player), but it can also be frustrating when you completely take away their agency, too.

Weirdly, I also do something similar to what Jon's doing in this playthrough whenever things get heavy in the story. Specifically, right after your dad dies and the LW escapes, I will choose that moment to do one of the DLCs. I use a random number generator to pick a DLC and beeline for it, going with the roleplay standpoint that my LW is in that much grief that they choose to just run away. The Pitt, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta work really well for this idea too, considering they all take you away from the Capital Wasteland and are (from a story prespective) even worse situations to find themselves in. But yeah, feels like a good way for my LW to regain their confidence after such a horrible tragedy, with them overcoming the odds to be the hero. I dunno, just feels narratively satisfying to me

I was wondering why, after watching that dedicated episode and going to Lamplight to update Knock-knock post-endgame, I couldn’t tell her the end of the story and acted like there was still more to it. I was kinda disappointed that I couldn’t tell the fictional child the end to my fictional adventure.

sorry for the long rant; i think your being very narrow with your understanding of the conversation with Eden, from the interrogation to the conflicting orders. Eden is a computer, his human vessel summarily disagrees, and probably is trying to shut eden down with the ZAX holotape. with Autumn theres no chance of the FEV making it to the purifier, with you theres a greater then 0% chance. The base blowing up regardless of eden's outcome makes sense because autumn would be your main obstacle to success, thats why eden referenced the BoS, he doesnt care who controls the purifier as long as it kills mutants.

The code is 2-1-6 because it was your mother's favorite bible passage. This game made the enclave a joke in a lot of ways, like I get they're satire of the us government but they where fugging scary in 2. I want to see that, and if they ever come back I don't want to see them completely removed and killed. If the brotherhood can stick around so can the enclave.

You know, the Civil War within the Enclave between Eden and Autumn might not be as one sided in Eden's favor as it seems from encountering the Enclave bases out in the wastes. If Autumn has the Destruct Code for Eden, that means if Eden truly becomes no longer useful for Autumn, he could have destroyed Eden at any time. Sure Eden can pull rank and such, but Autumn can literally pull the plug on Eden whenever he wants.

Yes but eden can also just have autumn assassinated or merced by a robot. Also if autumn blows up eden, he blows up the main base as well as a good amount of enclave personnel. Eden clearly has a huge advantage.

34:19 actually so long as the enclave has more than 1,000 individuals genetic diversity should not be an issue. You can even technically you have it work with as little as 500 but that requires a lot of keeping track

I think where Fallout 3 coulda been improved a lil with the enclave was having more enclave items. You get some interesting loot from the enclave patrols but I feel it coulda been expanded. Maybe a higher strength rad away or rad x type aid or other high tech medecine. It gives even more incentive to fight enclave patrols and it would stand to reason they have advanced loot beyond the average wastelander

Well with regards to Broken Steel, Eden was obviously full of it. He tells you you'll likely to the modified FEV, but of course you know now that neither you or your parents came from the vault. You are, in the enclave's eyes, a mutant. Eden is just lying to and using you; he never had any attention of making you his confidant.
