That's partly because there are several moments in the game where you actually don't have to kill people and it gives more player substantial choice. The first conflict at the very beginning of the game can be delayed for like... 15 to 20 minutes I think? Simply because your squad mates are following military protocol attempting to defuse the situation. There are other instances where it makes you think it's a No Russian situation but you can just shoot into the air and scare off people antagonizing you. There's one moment where you confront someone who mislead you into aiding in a CIA clean up mission and he's trapped under rubble. You can either shoot him in the head to mercy kill him, as he request, or you can allow him to burn alive while he dramatically shouts at you and disparages you for thinking you're better than him. The Frontier simply doesn't present situations like these save for like two instances and while SpecOps didn't make it obvious it did allow you to take the time to think. Frontier streamlines you into thinking you don't have a choice because why would you be merciful to the Crusaders? You've been trained to think that every situation is to force you to do bad things to fail at forcing the player to feel guilty. You can actually broker an uneasy truce with the Crusaders in the NCR story but the build up not only doesn't make you aware of that, it conditions you to think it's not an option. The irony is that while SpecOps does "force you" to do bad things, it doesn't try to force you to feel guilty. The same goes for when they rip off Deadspace and Wolfenstein. You can feel sympathy for the space cult members(Enclave) and you can feel remorse for making a choice that killed your comrade(Wolfenstein) but you also could simply not care and the game would not try to make you care beyond presenting a choice and its consequence. Though to be fair Wolfenstein 2 does have BJ monologue about guilt for half the game but that's survivor's guilt over a friend from a non-silent protagonist.

It helps that Spec Ops is actually a military shooter, so all of its commentary is being directed at players who chose to pick up a game where the core gamepay is killing people in a setting inspired by a real-life war that's still going on; meanwhile this took an rpg where a lot of quests have peaceful solutions, added a linear military campaign, and then made you feel bad for taking the 1 option given to you in a game about making choices.

So, I'm glad I waited for more info before lookin all this up. The distance from Portland to Sacremento is 578 miles. A megaton grade weapon's cloud would be visable from 434 miles away. Also, I'm sure Vertibirds use make use of some kinda nuclear tech, but if we wanna be petty the range of a V-22 Osprey is 580 miles, so AJ isn't making it home. Also, Mike standing there during the wolf reveal is just *chef kiss* lamo.

Both the Enclave and Brotherhood use F.O.B. locations to launch vertibirds off of in Fallout 3 and 4, with 4 in particular stating their only way to keep them functional is the Prydwyn's presence and the airfield. With that said, FO4 does have you fly from Boston, MA to Maine if you choose to take out the synths in Point Lookout, though I suppose you could bullshit a refuel at the Capital Wasteland for that.

Just put the coordinates that the Courier sent through to AJ into maps, and found that apparently, Rancor waited until being a couple miles NORTH of Portland to shoot Blackthorne and the Courier. Apparently no one questioned why they were taking so long or going past where the base should've been, and Camp Phoenix didn't question it when a vertibird flew clean past and didn't make radio contact. Either Rancor thought it would be smarter to kill Blackthorne and the Courier in the Exiles main region, or the Courier somehow walked from Sacramento to BEYOND Portland after jumping out of a helicopter

That's because that's exactly what it's an homage to and Bethesda did it better several years earlier. In Point Lookout the Lone Wanderer has a hallucination where they are walking through a river of bodies containing characters they may or may not have been responsible for. Including their mother near the end. Because Fallout 3 is a decent RPG, you could take this to mean that it symbolizes a Good Karma Lone Wanderer feeling the guilt for not saving people and an Evil Karma Lone Wanderer purging the last of their humanity. Hell a Neutral Lone Wanderer could simply be having a dumb dream waking up indifferent. Fallout 3 gives you that freedom to decide what symbolism to go with. Fallout the Frontier forces you to feel bad even if you're a family murdering cannibal who has all of the ending slide shows in the main game default to the "The Courier killed everyone in this town and their companions, next slide please."

To be fair, in the base game you can nuke the Long 15, the highway which runs from Los Angeles to New Vegas, before you confront Benny, and following the destruction of the Divide, which cut off California Route 127, the Long 15 is the only convenient way for the NCR to move troops and supplies into the Mojave left. Yet no one addresses it beyond a "whatever crimes you've committed are hereby made null and void because we need you to help us during Hoover Dam". And, in Fallout 3, you nuke Megaton - again, that was barely addressed. Most nukes you send out in Fallout really aren't addressed, so I wouldn't say that would be entirely un-lore friendly

The beginning of Rancor's speech is so broken. His dialogue is all twisted up in double negatives with the most serious tone possible. Just to point out that the penultimate climax starts with ass-backward dialogue whilst thinking itself the most badass thing in existence.

Was about to complement the mod for calling out Blackthorne and the spanner that doomed his plan was just some dick wanting more than what he had, like a typical raider... then they made him immortal for a scripted jump sequence, even if you have the health and unarmed damage to kill him. This mod really needs to learn on alternative playing styles and adapting to what you make your character out to be

it also stupid how the mod expected the player to jump out of the vertibird and it even dumber that the courier survived the drop both from a real life stand point and the fact that such a fall would kill any character even with a high HP.

No sane person would jump from that height. Punching Rancor to death is the more sane option, and I hate that it isn't a viable option. It seems like the writers love making the Courier have legendary strength of will and endurance when it suits the plot, but not when their own characters would die preemptively because of player choice. It feels like a bad DM punishing his friends for not following the plot. How is anyone supposed to have fun with this? This story only exists to stroke the writer's hubris, which is the worst reasoning for writing a story.

Why would his ghost help the person who's indirectly responsible for his death? It's not as bad as the whole "literally going to space" shit but still what the fuck is this?

To be honest the wolf pack had this potential of being great, if they weren't killed off earlier in the mod. Hell they could've been potential companions with their own personal side missions in which you help them, and the choices you make on those missions could affect their fate. As the main story progresses, but no Devilswish decided to kill them off earlier with no time for the player to connect to them and get to know them better.

Rancor has huge Miller Vibes. The Codec and MGS references. The Ghosts and the Music. The Wolves, Tower and Snow Screams Shadow Moses. Someone was DEFINITELY a Metal Gear Solid Fan for sure!

I agree with Mike on the part with the music and the wolf, that made the ncr campaign for me, idk just hit me in the feels, ya it was hacky but it still did its job in my mind especially when it was hardcase as the wolf, like right after the whole sequence of "look who all you've killed, you are awful" it was a nice resolution in my opinion
