Or. Or, stay with me here everybody, this one's gonna be a real doozy, you take the courier, start him off as a PFI grunt, then gradually *work your way up* to him being a total badass that everyone likes and respects. You know, like a story eith something so fucking routine and simple as goddamn *story progression* . Because let's face it. The Frontier is the Rey Dipshit school of charachter development taken to it's stonefaced, unironic conclusion. The protagonist starts at the bottom, because somebody somewhere managed to rub two neurons together to realize that's one of the hallmarks of a good story, without, might I add, ever figuring out *why* that happens to be the case. The protagonist however, does not start off at the bottom and have to *work* their way to the top, no, that'd get in the way of the setpieces! The protagonist is already amazing from the beginning, and only starts off at the bottom because everyone at the top is literally too preoccupied to realize how fucking amazing the protagonist really is, while everyone else in the entire fucking story can't help but gawk at how good and brave and skilled and amazing the protagonist actually is. This invetably leads us to an unsatisfying triumph in the story where the protagonist's worth is finally realized and we have a big action-packed setpiece. Then a big setpiece. We have some more action, culminating in a setpiece. We have a setpiece where the protagonist would be defying the odds if it was actually well written, a setpiece where the protagonist has to make a hard choice in a moral quandry and a setpiece which brings up something from the past. If that wasn't enough, we have a whole, drawn-out section full of nothing but an extended setpiece, because we might be able to jump that shark a few more times before everyone realizes it's not actually impressive to jump the shark anymore, to the point you've quite literslly gone and killed the damn thing. And, wait, hang on one fucking second, how could I possibly forget, one more really big, over the top, goddamn, mutherfucking setpiece? It's a story designed for it's visual and technical affect, not it's quality, because with quality storytelling, things have meaning. The setpieces are truly impressive because they don't happen all that often, and the lead-up is such that it establishes the setpiece as the proper point for the shark to be jumped, establishing just how much rests on the outcome of said setpiece. When charachters don't have flaws and important descisions, actions, and even deaths have no meaning, your story is never going to leave any true impact on it's audience, because you've robbed everything which happens in your story of any signifigance, any proverbial weight. It's like children playing with action figures and just making shit up as they go along. When anything at all can happen at any time for no reason whatsoever and be resolved just as quickly, nothing in the story will ever feel like it means anything, and your audience will get bored. It's as simple as that. If you're here, remember this, because you've essentially just been given a masterclass on exactly what not to do when writing a story.

this mod has really weird choices for tanks, like really, where the hell do you find a functioning Sherman and would there be even a single T55 in the united states I once asked them why a Sherman, wouldn't a Patton make more sense given the cold war themes of Fallout, they said because the Sherman was in previous fallout games, THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT A GOOD CHOICE!

The engines would be easier to find parts and replacements for than just about anything else, and it's easier to work on in general. That's really all I've got for the thing...
@MellowGrunt103 жыл бұрын
There are people who own T-55s here in the US. There are also some people who own Shermans that do still function. I remember for a World War Two parade I saw a functioning Sherman. How they found the parts to maintain tanks that are almost 300 years old in fallout is beyond me, and that’s not even considering how they got the main gun working, or how they found the ammo, or how that ammo is even functioning as well since I image that any tank ammo would be so eroded from time that it would destroy the tank from attempting to fire it.

@@MellowGrunt10 The boomers dragged a B-29 out of a lake and restored it to flying condition. What more do you want?
@MellowGrunt103 жыл бұрын
@@mfree80286 You make a very good point, there is no way that the Boomers’ B29 should work. And I’m not even really criticizing the mod for using a T-55 or Sherman tanks, as there are far bigger issues that the mod has. Just wanted to inform the person who posted the comment that the tanks see in the video could be found in the US while also acknowledging that it still doesn’t make sense that the Legion or NCR could get those tanks running. Still you are correct, it’s fallout and weirder things have happened.

It's like I want to appreciate the technical work that went into this mod but the writing and storyline is... ah, I know how to reconcile this. "This is an incredibly well polished turd." Thank you for playing it for us, since it doesn't seem all that enjoyable to actually play it.

I agree the call of duty-ness in this mod really was a missed opportunity, this should’ve been like trench warfare slower paced, with a few large scale battles in between, make all the artillery they show in the game play a factor

Edit: After writing all the stuff down there, I just saw what game Mike put on the description lol. Glad, I am not the only one who felt like that. I also stopped the video right before they started to discuss exactly what I am complaining about. Weird. Huh. The worst part of the Frontier and NCR route is how the whole game just feels like a knockoff COD shooter instead of an RPG. Seriously, the characters, set pieces, cutscenes, faux morally painful occurrences. Tell me this whole fucking rescuing the Courier ordeal doesn't just feel like a COD story mission. It's just boring, bland military stuff with not a hint of depth or world-building, which are basically the things that make New Vegas good.

I find it baffling that if you’re the legendary courier then why after one perimeter security sweep they send in their whole army after you. Like if you’re going to make us into this big epic figure at least let us do a few more missions to engrave ourselves with the exiles. And have them be a lot more meaningful than simply place mines here, oh no, I’m captured.
