I literally saw people roll their eyes at lash combs because "why would you get it that clumpy in the first place?" 🤨🤨🤨 I luckily just don't use that much mascara and the formula is thin and the applicator is stuff enough that it kinda combs them for me, but with my old mascara, I really needed a lash comb 😭

Mini tip for anyone that has trouble doing this method without getting mascara on their eyelid (like me 😬) use a small bendy bit of card, something the size of a clothes tag for example, press it to the eyelid along your lashline, you can rake away at that mascara and get right to the root’s without getting splotches of mascara on your eyeshadow 🙂

My grandma taught me to use the mascara like this when I was a teen when I asked her why does she keep a clean mascara wand in her makeup kit, she said "one for applying, one for destributing". She'd use the mascara as we all do, then comb through with the clean one and repeating until she got the desired look. Also stretching gently your eyelids outwards make the eyelashes separate naturally, and she'd do that to finish

I used to have a mascara that was a 2 step process. The first step was a black gel similar to normal mascara, but it had little tiny fibers in it that would literally build your lashes. You could repeat it as many times as you wanted, and each time the lashes would get thicker AND longer because of the fibers. It was like fake flashes in a tube. It had a comb to brush through after that process, and then a clear gel you put on afterwards to make sure everything stayed in place. It was magic. I don’t remember the brand though 😅

I stopped a little over twenty years ago, I could feel eyeliner had bled onto my eyeball! It was probably a cheap liner or something... but it hurt my eyeballs enough that I was like "never again," and I kept my word too... That little bit of extra black while it can make your eye makeup pop just a little bit, but not enough to risk my eyeballs and surrounding tissues! I agree with this optician - whatever benefits or immediate gratification that liner on your water line gives you is nooooot worth it ya'll! Not to mention that it usually just shifts off the water line into my lash line, which I've found liner then dark shadow works better, & I don't have to put anything where it shouldn't be!

My friends used to laugh at me in the late 1970s because I had very long thick lashes, not all the products we have today and most mascaras would clump my lashes. So, I would use a large safety pin to put thru the lashes to separate my clumps! Of course it was dangerous and I totally stopped doing it once some better mascaras came out in early 80s. However, I have recently been seeing these lash combs but never figured I needed one. After seeing this I’ll be buying one today!

I do something like this, but I use an electronic hand fan to "cure" my lashes in place before each new coat. I comb out the excess, then use my finger underneath the hold them in place while the mascara dries with the fan. It's like setting it. I have very heavy lashes and they will just fall and lay down straight if I don't do this. Really opens up the eyes, too.
@brightsalot
@brightsalot 6 ай бұрын
This makes a lot of sense. I usually do a first coat and let it only halfway dry before applying the second coat for a thicker effect, yet the shape/height is still malleable at that point. Come to think of it, my best results happen while applying mascara in the car (not actively driving of course!), and it’s probably bc most of the time I’ll have the fan or air conditioning blasting at me. You've helped make my point, thank you. It's ok to teach people who might not know but they act like it was invented by Erin Parson's. She is a great MUA but that no new techniques, I do enjoy her historical makeup ( well the 1 I've seen so far, I'm quite an expert myslef so I'll be looking out for mistakes as we all should)

Also using waterproof helps. It tends to be dryer and will stick to your lashes and holds a curl better.

I can do that with Maybeline mascara…. but this is pretty too. And folks, you don’t need a lash comb … a certain type toothbrush works as well and, with practice, you can easily learn to use your mascara wand to separate your lashes. I worked as a media mu artist for many years and I did really great work… I’m not just blowing it outta my arse.

I have always done this weird thing where I continuously "blink slowly against the wand" to comb them with the mascara brush. Covergirl Lashblast (purple, orange, or green) is my holy grail. Very buildable and not flakey. I do one eye, dip, go to the other, and then go back over them again without dipping the brush again.
@starlight3054
@starlight3054 7 ай бұрын
I sorta do the same thing but also spin the wand and shimmy it back and forth while combing through. Been doing it like that since I started wearing mascara.
