I grew up under all these men. My brothers and I attended a Christian school in Fort Worth, TX where they literally tried to force us to participate and speak in tongues. If you didn't want to participate you were labeled as rebellious. They took it further saying if you rebelled you were practicing witchcraft and needed to be delivered. My parents pulled us from the school, but they didn't leave the church. We suffered so much narcissistic, emotional, verbal, and spiritual abuse. It was only God that kept me through that hell.

I recently visited family in KY, and my stepmom is still listening to Copeland. I had no idea, but knew she had visited their church yrs ago here in TX. And in early 90’s she gave me a devotional from Copeland’s wife. She had Kenneth on the tv one night, thankfully it was not on long😒. She asked me if i Knew who Todd White was🙃😒, yes, I know he is a heretical teacher. And! She asked if I knew who Kim Clement was, ugh. But I have to share that my stepmom years ago had encouraged me with scripture to pray, read and focus on, when I was healing from trauma that happened from sexual molestation by a cousin. My memory had come back of that time as a young girl, then at around age of 19 I had remembered what had happened to me. At that time I had chosen to follow Jesus, to repent and know Christ as my savior. The scripture healed my heart and mind. Praise God for His word that heals, His word is alive and gives us purpose.

Tongues is your born again Spirit praying directly to God. It bypasses your soul (mental, emotional part of you) which is not yet redeemed, only purchased, hence why we are told in Romans 12:2 to be transformed by the renewing of our mind with the Word of God. Renewing the mind is a lifelong endeavour because we presently have an unwanted influence (flesh). Your spirit prays directly and perfectly to God and it edifies you, nobody else.. It is blessing that every single believer has the capacity for but the Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He doesn't take control of your mouth. If one felt like that in a "service" I'd get out of there ASAP for it's a different spririt. Don't be put off by the counterfeits, would God give you a stone for bread or snake if you asked for a fish? (Matt 7:9). Trust that if you ask to speak in tongues then He'll give you something good. The enemy fights hard against Tongues because he knows the benefits.

It's baloney that the only purpose is that we will start speaking in parables like Jesus. Not saying that can't and doesn't happen, but let's be real, basic bible doctrines come across as confusing parables to any unbelieving heart. I've never spoken in a parable, parables were to separate the sheep from the goats, hearers that can receive the spiritual principles within the parables and the deaf who's hearts desires were not pure and true (like the beleivers who left Him when He mentioned drinking His blood and eating His flesh in John 6:56). That still stands today, it's why atheists have read the bible and their hearts and vision is still dark. I don't have to speak in a parable for someone hostile to the Gospel not to get it. Those hostile to the Gospel don't understand even the basic idea that God is love (1 John 4:8) and came to die because of who He is (love). If we are meant to speak confusing things to people, there wouldn't be children's ministry, there wouldn't be teaching ministry, there wouldn't be a progression from milk to meat (1 cor 3:2). Jesus wants His truths known and for us to grow up in Him. When I am experiencing a feeling of closeness to God at times during praise and worship or prayer, I don't become someone else and start singing Hebrew, spouting parables or sound like anybody else but me. But I'm seeing and hearing clearer. God is not the author of confusion (1 cor 14:33). Parables in themselves don't edify, it's the Spiritual truths within them that edify which is shown to people with willing hearts by the Spirit who is the teacher. God's language isn't parables, saying this is just confusing what 1 cor 14 makes clear. 1 cor 14:2 is clear that it's speaking to God, nobody else understands it, it is a mystery even to the speaker but the speaker can ask for interpretation. They may never understand but they may see the fruit e.g. their spirit could be praying against something the speaker doesn't even know the depths of and wouldn't know to pray for but they get a break through. A situation could change or they are enlightened to something they couldn't see before in the Word, or someone else could get a breakthrough and they'd never know they'd been part of it until they go to be with the Lord. Tongues is literally just another way to edify and strengthen the influence of the Spirit over flesh (as fasting does). Just another tool in our arsenal. Our perfect born again spirit is praying purely without the influence of the flesh and carnal mind, directly to God on behalf of ourselves and even others who our carnal minds may not even be thinking about because our carnal mind doesn't know all things. But we have the mind of Christ IN OUR SPIRIT MAN (1 cor 2:16).. and that's who's praying. Don't shun tongues because of the fakers, or because you don't understand... there's a reason the enemy has came against this so hard.

I saw Copeland live, and I even donated some money to his ministries. Now that I know more I would not have donated like I did. I am a bit disheartened to know how false his teachings truly are. When I heard him speak I personally did not get much out of his teachings at all. I believe that was for a divine purpose. I pray he repents. I think the worse thing I ever saw was him cutting his hand with one of his ministry partners that was by far blasphemous. And I also agree with IR when he is talking about the "tongue teaching" situation. As someone who went many years of life without being born again, I can speak from personal experience being baptized by the Holy Ghost was not anything a man can to only the Holy Spirit can do so. I hope no one continues to take heed to the teachings of Copeland and anyone associated with him. I know this might make a lot of people mad, but it is the truth. Where in the Bible does it say to do a blood ritual? That is straight witchcraft. Misinterpretation of scripture right there in my opinion. Again I agree with IR's reasoning.
